I am getting at least one Ork Bomber and am thinking of making the Necron ship into a BFG command ship - IIRC there is mention of truely massive Necron warships and it fits the whole Stargate theme

Of course seeing Ultramarines players with one will just make me smile that much more!

I like 'em! Think of them more as the equivalent of choppers, rather than jets. In that sense, I think they look great.

Besides, what codex do you play? Bet I can find something ugly in there, too!

I have just bought the new WD and love the Stormtalon! It looks great as white Scars and Sallies. Its just the Ultras version that sucks! I will definately be getting one this weekend for a Flyer battle on the 9th June and two more in the future along with 2 Stormravens. Air Cav marines anyone? And yes my Vanillas can have a SR. GW houserules.

It would be a very large cockpit for a Knight. Like as large as the Knight itself.

Knight is a type, just like Titan is a type.

Warhound Titan
Reaver Titan
Warlord Titan
Emperor Titan

Knight Paladin
Knight Errant
Knight Lancer
Knight Warden
Knight Crusader
Knight Castellon
Knight Baron

Predator Annhilator
Predator Destructor
Predator Baal

Titans are the odd one out, as most other vehicles are vehicle type followed by variant.

I'm starting to picture a powerfist, with the arm torn off and some bone sticking out, jammed into the leading edge of one wing. Or a single arm, fingers curved around the outer edge of the jet engines intake. I wonder if any of the blood bowel minis would make good "run away!" figures.

Ironically, I'm currently reading about selective attention...

Question: Why would you take a Stormtalon when Predators have the similar weapons loadout of weapons for cheaper with a higher AV. If you want typhoons, two land speeders do the exact same thing for cheaper if not better (4 shots vs. 2).

Stormtalons can either go flat out and not fire anything and have a 4+ chance of being there at the end of the turn or be able to fire everything/possibly get +1 to hit and die the subsequent shooting phase (psycannons love these flyers).

Deal with these in the same way you deal with DE vehicles: Hydra Flak.

A note to GW: adding an extra shot to an autocannon and +12" range does not automatically make this awesome. For +25pts it is in fact very average on an AV11 hull which can already move at 36". Purifier squad for the same cost has 8 S7 AP4 shots with rending.

Because god forbid SM might get something that was only slightly better for the points than the non-IOM equivilent

It's a decent unit, a smidge underpriced for it's capabilities.

Just because GK are drastically OP/Underpriced doesn't make it lousy, it just makes Gk underpriced and OP

My Orks and DE would be only too happy to have a BS 4/BS 5 non-fast AV 11 skimmer with any of the weapon loadouts it can take for that price in points.

When a unit makes the Stormraven look viable, you know it's not going to be good. Notice that I also quoted Hydra Flak from IG, not just SM. Also this is not another 'GK is overpowered!' argument, deal with it. Other things that can deal with it: entire Tau army (single glance = no shoot for you!)

My point: they are releasing an SM unit which is subpar compared to the rest of the codex. This fills no gap and does it's job no better than any existing unit. It is not a good unit, not even a decent one.

You don't order a good steak, then have the waiter deliver a bowl of gruel citing "the man at the other table ordered the same" and fork over full price for the steak you were supposed to get. If it looked awesome, some leniency could be granted, however the stormfish gets none of that treatment.

The Golden Throne

The ST completes with the tornado for a "fast" spot. Considering return on points invested which is the better pick? Points wise the the ST is pretty steep... right? When compared to a land speeder.

Also about hover attack. Why the +1 on BS? The weapons are already twin linked. Seems silly. Should of had it ignore cover or something more useful. I'm sure they missed this during "play testing"

Not all the weapons are twin-linked. I believe the missiles are not. And consider that with the melta heavy lists out there, ceramite plating helps to counteract meltas.

It is AV 11. This does not help against missiles, lascannons, autocannons, assault cannons, railguns, ordinance etc.

All it does is reduce the chance of not doing anything from a 1/36 to a 1/3, glances from 1/18 to 1/6. An all over reduction in vehicle pens from 11/12 to 2/3 and ups the chances of glancing (at AP1) by x3.

Again: AV11, not a lot of help vs. the plethora of other anti-tank weaponry out there, just against the one.

AV 11 does make it immune to most small arms, however, unlike AV10. It also can move 12" and fire everything.

Compare a base loadout Talon with a Land Speeder with a HB/Assault cannon, the closest equivalent. For the cost of the Landspeeder's assault cannon upgrade extra, you get both weapons twinlinked, Ceramite armor, +1 AV, faster speed, and while it loses deepstrike, it gains the ability to tag along with another unit in reserves, including outflanking.

So the "Autumn of Fliers" turned out to be "Everyone else is getting a flier, except for two of the core armies (Space Marines and Orks) and since those two aren't getting a new book any time soon, here's a flier for them"?

Tau, Chaos (either), Nids (so far anyway) don't have a flyer yet, and neither does CWE (until new codex hits i suppose).

I'm sure they will, though..

Well, Nids have the rules for one (everyone assumes the Harpy will be one) but no model.
