Might be a bit I'm afraid... with mother's day this weekend and a house full of visiting family the next. Spent today (my day off) cleaning the house and hardly made a scratch, so I suspect the next week will be more of the same. If I get a chance I'll give it a go... but probably need a stretch of several hours in order to get all the airbrushing done in one shot.

Well, I know this isn't what you guys were hoping for... but I did make some progress towards painting today. I got my bits order in, thus was able to replace the little bolter attachment that I shot across the room last week. I also was able to coax the bolters out of the chest of the very first marine I built (which was all glued rather than magnetized) & got them properly magnetized. THEN I went through and numbered each centurion on the under-side of it's base, and collected up all the loose bits and placed them in carefully labeled little zip-lock bags so I don't get the bits confused.

So at this point, I am actually ready to do some painting... unfortunately I burned up too much time with all this fiddling to do anything this afternoon. Perhaps later tonight... we'll see.

Managed to sneak the airbrushing in! Hopefully pics tomorrow!

Well guys, sorry, no photo. My camera is now green color-blind and registers only the most extreme greens as green, everything else is grey. My phone just went on the fritz too and it won't keep any of the apps open for more than a few seconds, so I can't take a picture with that either. So you'll just have to trust me... they're getting painted. Have the airbrushing done on the bodies. I was going to airbrush the weapons today, however it's gotten very rainy and humid so I'm afraid that'll have to wait.

Just put your MWs on skateboards. That would be the most extreme green dakka has ever seen! Problem solved.

Actually we figured out the problem... I should be able to take pics tonight. There's a skylight above the photo booth and it was graying out the green for every camera we tried. Must be something about how digital cameras "see" color.

You should put them on skateboards anyways. For science.

First... camera weirdness. Camera settings haven't been changed to my knowledge... neither has lighting or anything else (turned out the skylight had nothing to do with it). What's interesting is that it doesn't seem to matter what digital camera takes this image... they all look the same.



Second... took this with the same camera using the flash. This is actually what they look like, more or less. Problem with flash is no depth-of-field though.


The color here isn't right either... but at least you can tell that they're really green.

Wow there is a really big difference in the pictures, maybe your maintis' were being chameleonic? The lower picture is a much nicer richer green.

I really like the Centurion on the far left. He looks like he ready t just drop his guns and pummel you into submission with his fists.. Really nice poses

I empathize with your camera. That's why I never paint green. I know from experience that it will break his preadolescent heart, but due to his color blindness he can never be a jet fighter pilot.
Now your camera is doomed to a life of painting everything pink or yellow and crying himself to sleep. He'll learn to cope...

Visions of pink and yellow Mantis headed centurions crying on a scateboard while dreaming of being fighter pilots... I think the sci-fi channel made that already!

Curious. It certainly seems to be something in the camera as it's bleached the background as well.

Has someone borrowed it recently and changed your settings?
Or is it getting old (and grey geddit)?

Lol, glad they arrived in good order Gits! and I really do hope you like them all, it's a few different sort of styles throughout them but my favorites are Badrukk and the Mantis Captain, lets hope he kicks ass! the little Grots are pretty damn cool too. If you need anything else painted and you're happy with my work let me know and I'll do some more for you :-)

They're fantastic nerdy! A bit of basing on some of them and they'll be all set to go! I can't choose my favorite as they're all just incredible!

Sorry for the lack of updates guys. Last week through next weekend have been / are not going to be very good for getting any painting done. Packed from end to end with RL responsibilities.


I thought I'd make a coment unrelated to my current project, but certainly related to the hobby. It seems that since Adepticon and the advent of yet another edition of 40k, the interest in 40k at my local gaming store has really dried up. You can occasionally scare up a game, but it's rare that I can bring one of my boys to the shop and have us both find someone to play. A lot of the 40k players... both casual and regular, have instead moved to Warmachine and Dust Tactics. I think the screwed up 6th edition rules, the prospect of "Unbound" (i.e. "Unbalanced") armies and spending another $85 on a rule book pushed a lot of them over the edge.

Sad to see, especially since the boys were just getting back into it & the eldest just had his first real success using the airbrush. The group in Madison still seems to be going strong, but there's a big difference between driving 15 minutes for a game & driving 60 minutes.

Just wondering if anyone else had noticied a similar shift.

I am fully just skipping picking up the 7th edition book for now (if a new starter comes out I'll get it, if its just DV with a different book, pass). It sounds terrible, full of the things I don't like about the game. It has taken the half thought I had of going to Adepticon in 2015 and thrown it out the window. I hope the new codexes are 6th compatible, or I'll have to stick to whats out there now.

Not sure what the local scene is doing, it's pretty dried up to begin with. Though that is less 40k related and more the single game store is 95% Magic at this point.
