if you want big stable and strurdy cardboard tubes...look into your friendly carpet store... the endless carpet stuff is rolled over thick cardboard rolls... i can highly recommend themmm...built already a castle with big towers from them... mind you you need a big saw to make a dent in them...about 1cm in material thickness...

I'm going to have to re-arrange the whole boat in order to actually put these somewhere.

I have a garage full of these things, I keep picking them up as soon as one is used at work ……. thick white plastic tubes have to be good for something

Till roll tubes - I get through a lota till roles at work -but they are small - for chimneys and columns they can't be beat

shaso - Well, around these parts you need to keep a keen eye (preferably a nice shiny Scheiss-Nikork augmented eye) on both grots and squigs - the cyberising mostly sends them a bit 'strange'.

dstein - Hell yeah, that was a great pick-up. Those bridge girders are fantastic.

Anvil - Damn, Freudian slip if ever I saw one It even took me a few attempts to figure out what I'd done

Rogue - That'll explain those strange noises I've been hearing. I was blaming the cyber-pike.

weety - Might need a saw to chop it up, depending on type - the ones we use are a good cm thick. The smaller buildings were done using sellotape rolls though, they should be easy to source from work
lol My mates and I have often discussed getting a floating lock-up type boat to keep my gak in. Next year once the bank stops ripping great chunks out of my pay-packet I'll start saving for real boats - a 40' narrow-bpat and a small run-around type thing Once I've blown several pay-packets on lots of shiny things I really don't need and a bunch of plastic things to chop up, obviously

vik - Good call, nice and sturdy, similar to the pallet wrap, but probably a bit longer than 50cm. You use the castle with the playmobil?

ldd - Plastic? Sounds intriguing, if we switch to those it would save me coating it in plasticard.... Wait, what am I thinking? I really don't need, nor can I truly keep (which, lets face it, is a better reason than 'do not need' when it comes to toy soldier related things) any more big tubes.

dstein - Yeah, good size for silo-related shenanigans those

weety - More excellent cheap materials Keep 'em coming folks, let's hear of your cheap treasure troves of modelling goodness. Those till rolls are also a good size for wheels.

And...I've replied after getting home for work so I can't even contrive something to show you in way of an update. Just chat this time.
That's it.
No pics.

Might as well go home now.

No...honestly, I'm not teasing, there is nothing to show.

Ohh, never thought of those, although I've nabbed a few flags for similar purpose. Makes a note to mug small children with balloons...

Finished off the walkway.

And a cheeky up-skirt shot showing the girders and the lucky 2 pence to help stabilise it

There'll be chains and cables draped off the girders at the end.

Even started laying some colour down.

And did a quick and dirty re-base for a couple of old bits I made many moons ago out of 35mm film cases (you youngsters ask your parents ) and aerosol lids.

The rust master at work... No seriously that is a quality rust you've got there

I wouldn't go as far as to say that it was a rust-gasm, but it is definitely rust-tastic

weety - Glad you enjoyed the rust, my apologies for not being able to supply a rust-gasm, guess I copped out somewhere around the verdigris strokes hey?
Although, in my defence, I haven't really started on the rusting yet

Swordwind - Thank you for de-cloaking and applying seal And how nice to save your 666th post for me too

Arakasi - Ok, weathering stages so far:
Black undercoat, applied by hand, little bit patchy (the patchy bit's not really necessary). Yellow was thinned VMC light yellow, followed by a thin mix of light and flouro yellow, with a drybrush of light yellow on top. Hasn't covered the black 100%. Green was a couple of thin coats of VMC intermediate green.
Dark flesh then applied using a sponge in a dry-brushing type style, but with a bit more paint on the sponge than I'd use for drybrushing.
Then vallejo pale grey wash applied in patches - should have thinned it more for the green though.
Sponge/drybrush with a dark chainmail mix, then some random thin sepia and devlan patches, then a light mithril drybrush.
Few placed spots of sepia and devlan, concentrating on edges and rivets.

Next will probably be some thinned macharius orange washes and some more of the pale grey wash - I can see this one becoming very popular. Then a touch of powders onc the rest has been done.

ldd - What? Are you suggesting advertisers lie to us? Surely not!
And thanks! Funny how yellow has become my 'go to' colour for weathering, whereas I'd steer well clear of it before.
Amazing what a bit of grime can cover up

Gits - Cheers fella! Is the derby this weekend? If so good luck.

If not, good luck for when it is

Right off to try and infiltrate this new comic/gaming store. That shouldn't be too tricky, but I'm worried about the extraction - not sure I'll be able to get out without getting caught by shiny things glinting at me from shelves.

Oh great, and as I type that there's a crack of thunder and the heavens open up...

I may put the mission back....

Yep, should leave for it in roughly 45 min. Still have a few things to sort out for the track, but both boys' cars are working OK, so as long as they have a good time & the track works... it's all gravy. Then I can finally get back to painting.

Gits - Well, hope you all have/had fun. Think you'll beat 1.2?

shaso - Thanks man. Yeah I have to use a real mixture of barriers, if it's just electrics the servo-grots start hot-wiring themselves for an energy boost and then I have to contend with a bunch of hyper-active little buggers.

vik - I'm finding terrain to be using different areas/skill sets/somethings than the usual - just as switching between vehicles and troops is often a nice change of pace. That piece just seemed to cry out for a lick of paint - I shouldn't worry, no doubt some other piece will get all the attention before I finish that one

So had a quick nose around the new comic/gaming store. I succesfully passed my leadership tests and did not leave with bulging bags full of plastic crack

I did however fail my saving throw vs Warren Ellis and left with a stack of comics. So I forsee a pleasant evening of reading ahead, with hobby stuff looking to be a little scarce

vik - These days it's whatever takes my fancy when I have some spare cash in my pocket - or when I look around a comic shop I picked up several Warren Ellis books - Freakangels volume 3 &4 (Kids with strange powers from some sort of experiment cause the collapse of civilisation, and as adults are trying to piece some kind of community together in flooded Whitechapel), Frankenstein's Womb (Mary Shelley meets inspiration), Captain Swing and the Electrical Pirates of Cinderey Island (Spring-heeled jack as a sky-pirate in 1830's London), plus some Hellboy (big red dude I'm sure you know ).
I'll try and take some pics of models in the comics bookcase for you, bit of comic-porn for you

Gits - He was just running it in Ah well, hope it was still a fun day.

Finished the walkway, bar sealing.

Added another layer to the bridge piece, and trying out the look of the lower level.

Obviously to keep the lower level stable there need to be several more chains, with one set going lower. Or I might try sculpting chains for a more stable build....Lindsay40K did a great tut on sculpting chains around wire, so I may give that a go...
