Is all good. Great minds think alike ^_^

A couple of WiP shots of a Death Watch Marine from the Blood Angel Chapter I'm painting for Gil. I dunno if the blue background was the best to show off the plasma glow, but hey, I always do blue for WiP's... Oh well ^_^

The directional lighting is getting easier to pull off, I was going to go extreme and have it hit more armour, but figured this was good enough... I need to touch up some parts of it, especially the green screen glow over the buttons... I've quickly discovered that what is highly important with lighting is making sure the light only hits what it's meant to...

I'm not that experienced in painting black armor, the highlighting is eluding me right now...

More soon ^_^

Love that pose vent... now did you use an airbrush for the plasma or just normal brush work? I thought I remembered earlier that you were going to try airbrushing your plasma effects...

Airbrush for both. It's just so easy to do

how do you do that lighting for the plasma? you use an airbrush but what exactly do you do.

I'm starting to think I should get an airbrush sometime!

It's pretty simple. For the blue I went with an ultramarine base painted over the ridges. Then used the airbrush with Ice Blue in it over the UM blue plus the surrounding areas which I want lit. Then I touch up the ridges with a watered wash before adding the final highlights to the edges of the ridges with a 1:1 mix of Ice Blue and White. For the green I painted the screen white first, then airbrushed everything I wanted green and then highlighted the screen with a 1:1 of sunburst yellow and Scorpion Green. Once that was dry I very carefully applied sigh wash to the lens edges giving it a slightly darker look before adding the red... Which I don't like and will probably do again before completion.

If you get an airbrush the best thing you can do is play with it. You'll make a mess, and you'll wonder if it's worth it, but the ease of doing just these things has imparted it's worth to me already; and I haven't even used it for basecoating yet ^_^

thanks man! I'm going to have to try this out when i get an airbrush. I want to try some lightening effects soon without one just to experiment, would you have any tips for that?

Not a lot of hobby time recently, but it seems I'm not alone there.
Finally got schank's out in the post, hope it reaches you before getting caught in the seasonal rush, still haven't had a chance to highlight the re-done tracks on sage's, and almost no progress on an00bis'

And I've just received schank's ork Awesome job mate, that gun looks even better in rl, love the weathering on it. Very nice skin tone too, was that a light flesh wash over the green?

Vent - cool looking marine, a bit of paint has made me re-consider the plasma being too big for that pose

Ha! Was just about to ask if you got it yet monkey. Yea I use a couple of thinned down washes on the skin. Was trying something new and I like the end result. Glad it made it there ok. But in the same boat havnt had much time for the whole modeling thing. Trying to get Whales done so I can send it out. Then I think I'm done till the new year. These past 2 months have been uber busy. And yes I got your mini Whale. Think I'm gonna do a jungle base to go with the camo. Love the whole Tau concept. I turned out really nice.

Glad you got him, sorry I forgot to even include a base. He should be a pretty open model. Could be a shoota, sluga/choppa (hes got a robo arm!) or even a loota. What did ya think of the random bits in there? Thought some could make some good ork guns. You can throw however many of the DW heads/pads as you feel like.

Seems like all my current stuff is on hold for the moment, managed to flood my boat yesterday, my workroom took the brunt of it, and drying out is my priority at the moment I'm guessing hobby time to be pretty low over the next two weeks (typically, as I had a day off coming that I'd earmarked for just that ). Sage, I'll try and fit yours in so I can get it out before the holiday post nom-noms it.
an00bis & graven, I'm sorry, but I can't see me getting yours built and painted in time, so I have to say it'll be just after Santa's done his rounds that I'll get those out, apologies for that - and especially to an00bis who was already waiting while I kicked ideas around

Whale: So, you sent me some bits for another go at a Brazen Claw. I substituted a better arm for the one you sent and I am thinking of giving him a banner. take a look at the fig and let me know. Also, Seeing as you already have a Brazen Claw.....do you want a different chapter?

And with a Banner

I like the BC scheme, and you seem to have a good handle on it. But if your feeling like changing it up, by all means. Nice kit bash on the arm btw. The banner is your call as well. He is going to be a Sgt though, so it will work.

@ Sagheart: Sure. It might be awhile though as the weather is turning bad for priming and I have some trades ahead of you. If you want something special, I suggest yousend it to me otherwise I'll just do a normal bolter marine.

Whale: Gotcha. I'll stay with the BC colors and add the Banner.

okay word, well i can trade a reg. bolter marine, or one with a PW, and a while is fine it'll give me time.

I'm trying to make an army of traded marines so I have a few needs, thou a bolter marine is okay, I would rather get an assault marine, honor guard, or a HQ of some sorts. I only have two already assembled models I can trade, one with a bolter, one with a PW, which ever you would want!

I don't play marines so another Ork would suit me better. What I meant is if you wanted me to paint something other than a regular Bolter marine....you'd have to send me the fig or parts. It's up to you.

i'll go looking through my parts to see what I could throw you!

Finally got the marine that Sageheart made for me based nicely... he'll get a couple of clumps of grass and his deathwatch shoulder pad, but is otherwise good to go and will join the squad immediately.
