Assuming there are 2 product ( 1 been special edition ) then sure i would believe that.

GW will never make the normal Space Hulk limited release. So rest assured you'll have your SH on your bday

GW just want to whip you guys into a frenzy with the mystery box + limited number strategy.

Or they're telling the truth for once, and people who aren't there at the split second it goes onto the website will miss out.

Or, maybe the limited release has limited edition things in it (like a Librarian & Brood Lord, as previous rumoured), and then the standard release won't have those in it.

Who knows?

Except that, again, GW's boardgames have always been a limited release. So why would this be any different?

It's probably worth pointing out that 'limited release' doesn't necessarily mean 'small quantity'

It just means that they're only making a given quantity of them. They'll have factored in how many they expect to sell before deciding what that quantity should be. You can bet they won't be making any fewer than they think they can sell.

They won't keep it as a part of the core range, because it doesn't fit their marketing strategy. Once you buy the game, you don't need to buy anything else. And if people know that it's going to be still available in 6 months time a lot of them wait to buy it because its expensive and they don't really have the cash right now... and then just never get around to it... so they wind up with a game sitting on shelves taking up space that could be otherwise occupied by more productive stock.

By releasing it as a limited run, people know that they only have a comparitively short time to buy it, and so make more of an effort to actually do so. GW get a big sales boost for the short term, and by the time that dies down (assuming they've calculated their production run correctly) remaining stock on shelves is minimal. Everybody wins: those who want the game now have it, and GW has made a great wad of cash.

And so the game goes away for another 5-10 years, until they decide that it's about time to do another run.

Down under

It didn't seem like much of a mystery box to me as I first became aware of there being a "mystery box" and 95% of people on forums stating that it would be Space Hulk at the same time.

The really funny thing is to imagine all the red shirts attempting to whip the 12 year olds into a mystery frenzy...Cravats coming back, mystery wagons offering candy, and stoners yelling "Scooby Dooby Doo"!

I suddenly want to go and attempt to dig through the forums to see exactly how long ago the first reference towards a possible rerelease or new version of Space Hulk. I'd say it must go back by at least 8 months.

First reference I could find at Taco Bell was Feb 2009.

I guess dreaming is free j/k

After yesterday´s announcement? Probably the site will post something like coming soon (being soon an unknown value between Monday and Armagedon)

Seems as if I was a lil late in starting my own thread about it.

Hmmm....HBMC actually likes what he sees with this product?

I look forward to your brutally honest review of it in September and whether or not you like it or it's a waste of money.

$99 USD retail?

Not likely.

$50 USD discounted? I'd think about it.

(of course, when your friends have the originals, there's no need for the new version)

Best thing about this reveal for me:

I spy 'standard' D6's for Storm Bolter shooting (you can see standard D6's in the pics) and the 'big' flamer blast.

In other words, they've gone back to the Storm Bolter and Flamer mechanics from 1st edition Space Hulk which were MUCH better IMHO.

Yay!

And boy do I want to see a close-up of the Broodlord model.

Yeah.....those termies are super gorgeous for a board game and the 'stealers could be used for some really great dioramas or just super scenic based squad upgrades to add life to a squad.
