My understanding of the spain thing is that they are issuing a free errata/ FAQ for all the armies they named within a few months from now.
They are republishing the existing books with the errata changes only. They are not updating the books with 8th ed rules afaik.
I'm sure they would have made that clear if it's what they were doing.
It does mean (imo) that high elves will not be getting an 8th ed book any time soon. They probably put it on the list because they want everyone playing it with the starter set.

I hope GW will not make this edition about trying to push upon us the scale of battles as featured in that Youtube video. Even half that scale would be rediculous. Most people will probably not spend that kind of cash.

Doubt that will be the typical army size but it seems like they're gearing up for some major updates to Legendary Battles, aka "Fantasy Apoc."
I'm halting all purchases on Fantasy until I can read the new rules.

"At French Games Day on Sunday 18th April we announced that July 2010 will see the long-awaited release of Warhammer. There have been 7 previous editions of this iconic game system, all leading to the moment when we will release the most complete and awe-inspiring version ever. Warhammer, The Game of Fantasy Battles, will launch on July 10th 2010. In a hardback, full-colour, 528-page rulebook we will present to the world the most inspirational, epic, bloody and challenging vision of Warhammer – its land, people and battles – ever seen.
Between now and the 10th of July, Games Workshop embarks on a crusade to make this the greatest and most glorious launch period in our history. Everyone, everywhere, has their part to play in the days ahead. A World of Chaos. A Time of Heroes. An Age of War. Let battle commence."
That's considerably bigger than the current book !

Is it too much to hope for the extra space to include a ravening hordes-style reboot of the army lists given they are changing the way armies are constructed?
Failing this, will the extra pages contain more and/or optional rules? Scenarios? Just more fluff?
Anyone have even a vague idea?

Wait what... thats nearly the book we currently have doubled again. An extra 256 pages for them to play with, but Its not like the background or army shots is severly lacking now.
Hmmm, Interesting.

Thinking about it, that's got to be a mistake. 500 pages is a full ream of paper, so unless this book is over 3" thick and weighs enough to knock out a horse, there are only two options:
1: that page count is wrong
2: its more than one book...

A ream of paper is 500 sheets / 1000 sides. We're talking about 528 sides / 264 sheets, or a half-ream of paper. Less than 2" thick, I imagine.
For reference, the 40k rulebook is 300 pages, and is larger than the previous 40k rulebook. There is plenty of room for more pictures, etc. Especially if WFB restores Skirmish, Siege, and Scenarios in detail, rather than glossing them over. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if GW did this, as the thin Fluff and painting guides don't add that much value over the small book. Plus, GW needs to "reset" the way that people think about Fantasy, so it's not monolithic 2000-2250 games all the time.
In terms of precedent, the 2004-2005 catalog was 1000+ pages and hardback, so GW could easily print a 500-page book in a single volume.

I was just thinking about the rumored changes to magic and how casting with irresistible force might have a down side.
Now the penalty couldn't be too severe since it would seriously hamper the casting of certain characters. Teclis comes to mind, casting with irresistible force on any doubles. It seems to me that if the PD you get per turn might be what the penalty could be. You use up a lot of your energy on that cast that on your next magic phase you would maybe get 2d6-x. X being the number of casts which you get irresistible force in a given magic phase.
Just a thought.

TBH, looking at the rumors on % restricted army builds and talking to lizardmen players, you might be pretty bad off considering the point costs of Slanns and EoTGs... Rather than taking a Slaan and two EoTGs it looks like you might get one EoTG (maybe two) OR a Slaan... I sure hope it doesnt boil down to nerfing armies too bad, but as of current, it looks like some armies are going to get hit in the noggin with the nerf hammer (Lizardmen), while other armies become rediculous ( WoC anyone?)... Once again... I definitely hope it doesnt come down to that.

Just sifting through the rumours I saw cavalry impact hits. My terradons might soon become my best buddies with their drop rocks, huge charge and now impact hits.

For my lizards, I started it out wanting to have an army of all skinks and things skinks controlled lead by a lone sarus on a carnosaur, and I was gonna have 2 engines of the gods too just because I didn't wanna have to paint 10,000 skinks to fill up my army.
But now it's looking like we can really only have 1 big character thing and a maybe 1 other on foot somewhere. So now I'll just run 2 lists, 1 with an engine leader and 1 with a carnosaur leader. And I'm gonna start adding some sarus units, got plenty of skinks now.
just like every new book, gotta adapt
I feel sorry for tomb kings players though... they need like half their points in characters in order to be able to do anything. hope they get fixed soon...

There is a subtle irony / hint of foresight in your words.
If they drop the unit-number restriction for solely percentages, things could possibly get very messy. Very, very messy (who's up for 30 Night Goblin Big Bosses in a 3000pt game?).

Yay it's coming out on my birthday hopefully it won't suck. But if there are impact hits from calvary and crushing blow from unit str 3 and above then I'm going to need more saraus calvary, terradons, kroxigors, and maybe some more salamanders.

Let's guess the price. I'd say $100, 80/90 euro. Automatically Appended Next Post: Actually, given the historical poor quality of GW book binding I am concerned about how a rulebook of this size will hold up under regular use.
