Great stuff as always, If I could take a pic as "bad" as you I would be a very happy man.

By the way how fricken cool is "name of the wind" I did throw the book against the wall when I realized it was the start of the trilogy and he hadn't even finished the second!

Looking good Vent, now you can start mine .

And sorry to have to say this, but it looks like a picture tutorial may be in order. I agree with nids a tute on good photos would be great.... sorry, only if you have time.

Hey vent... actually I'd missed your comment on the photo tutorial. I would definitely be interested... at the very least on your camera settings. I have decent equipment and a little photo booth, but I struggle with things like white balance & ISO/shutter settings.

Oh yeah.... and the mini looks tremendous! *grin*

First off, I really got a kick out the side notes before the picture. The note about you listening to show tunes while painting was fantastic. I often listen to Fiddler on the Roof while painting, lol.

Any ways, he looks great and I can't wait to see him in person. I like the name too!

Thanks guys

As for a photography tutorial. I'll see what I can get together this weekend. While a lot is dependent on your camera there are things which make it easier...

@Blackhand: Name of the Wind is phenomenal. Easily one of my favorite books. I've read it several times now. As for the length of time since the first till the second (March 1, 2011 baby!), I share your pain immensely. Considering how the first night only set things up for the true story this second book better be bloody stunning.

@IceAngel: Showtunes are a must for any serious painter... My neighbours must be getting a little sick of hearing me sing a harmony with Idina Menzel... HA!

Working on:

- Lizardmen! They're all around me! Nooooo!
- Shadow Sanctus Deathwatch Marine. Which considering he's mostly black, won't take me to long... <insert laughter here>
- My Broadway Career... <Insert greater laughter here>
- Oh and I'm also thinking making a knight titan built around the base structure of an exoskelly from the Matrix films... But this is my rainy day project...
- I have been instructed to mention that I also have many, many boxes of marines, predators, rhinos and dreadnoughts, many with the plastic still on, scattered around the house... Sorry honey...

In an effort to put off painting even more I wrote the photo tutorial today. It's over in the Tutorial section... *sigh* I guess this means I have to paint now... ^_^

Hey vent, the one thing you don't mention is where you got the design for the circle backgrounds... I can do the simple gradient in Photoshop, but are the lighted circles Photoshop creations as well?

I can't accept credit for the Cloud Backgrounds. Like I say in the Tutorial, and earlier in this thread, they're from Corvus over at Corvus miniatures. He does good work ^_^

Whoops... sorry, I saw that & visited his site, but couldn't find anything on the backgrounds so I thought I'd misunderstood.

Sorry, they're still there. Just a few pages back now. I should of linked them rather than just the corvus site.

I think I need to make/get a light box for photos... for some reason I want to find some of those terrible backgrounds they used for school pictures back in the day. I can just imagine a space marine in front of a bright, 90's style lazer beam background

vent wrote:Hi everyone,

I've been painting stuff for close to two years now. I don't play to many games, but I do enjoy the painting aspect. I have an ongoing blog over at 40k forums, but am looking for more critical feedback of my stuff and so thought a larger audience might be beneficial. I'm going to put up some of previous stuff so people have an indication of my current level and then put up what I'm working on...

I'm aware that I'm not that stellar, but I enjoy what I do, which is important ^_^

My latest minis are for my Mordheim witch-hunter warband, which consists of twelve minis I need to complete in 20 days. I've done four in four days so far...

I have a Flickr page with all my stuff located here if you want to check everything out... If anyone has any feedback, comments or constructive criticism on how to improve I'd love to hear from you

Fantastic work mate, one question though where did you get the helmet on that scout?

Wowsers! No, I hadn't Blackhand. Very nice. While the Lizardmen I'm painting are not mine I think I might buy and paint this for myself. Thanks Blackhand.

They're from Pig Iron Productions. They make some really nice stuff. Great for customizing imperial guard units (Or anything without a helemt). Especially fallen imperial guard units. You could make one hell of an excellent army... ^_^

Very interesting style you have, really subdued and more realistic highlights, which usually makes models look flat but you have pulled it off really well!

Just a quick update for the few people who read this:

While it may seem I have dropped off the face of the earth, in reality I am in the process of changing jobs and homes. One of these alone are stressful enough, but doing both at the same time seems to kick it up a few extra notches. I haven't been painting anything, and I've only just got around to sending out some marines to people. Hopefully things will calm down soon and I can return to painting...

Thanks man. That one there is a metal one. I don't play that many games so am unaware of how many you'd need to fill out a unit, but they're not that cheap. They come one to a blister pack...

*sigh*

So it's been 21 days since I sent Roleplayer's Miniature. Unfortunately it has yet to arrive. They consider mail lost at 30 days. Especially from New Zealand to Australia.

IceAngel received his miniature safely in America, but across the ditch it's a problem. I'm all depressed now :(

That's a real downer vent... I thought my local PO was the only one in the world that still hadn't figured out how to deliver the mail properly (small down and all).
