Since bloodletters can't even get magic items, I believe that he was willingly "cheating", and combined both 40K and fantasy codices to create a suitable army list. Then he added rules from whatever units he liked.

I mean, he had, how many? 80 fantasy bloodletters? They are still models with T3 and a 5++ save.

As I said, I think he made an honest mistake. He didn't play Fantasy, and mistook the online codex (which may not even have been accurate by anyones standards anyway) for a 40k set up. And he only had one box full, so that's what...20? in 1000pts. He was accidentally equipping them with individual chaos champion magical items and such, granting extra Strength and Toughness. Beleive me, he was mortified when he found out what was going on.

They could have 2 Bane Blades and 12 Heavy supports in a 1750pts game.

On about my third time playing I finally cut loose and tried out some Tau Battlesuits...

What I didn't do was pay for their wargear upgrades...

I read the "Pick two systems" and pretty much stopped there... After I tabled my poor friend in 3 turns we both knew something was wrong. We went back, re-read it, and I promptly lost.

Bear in mind, we hadn't read the rules...

5 Rangers for 95pts was a very good buy; dead landraider.

one of the early games with my necrons was against another necron player.
it was during an escalation league at our FLGS and he tried to convince me at 1000 points he could take a destroyer lord and it made wraiths troop choices, i looked at him held up my codex and said no. so he brought in 2 squads of warriors and we started playing. he then tried to turbo boost his wraiths and assault. once again i just glared at him, the entire time the store owner who was organizing the event was keeping a very watchful eye on him. so after them getting shot to gak they still had some that were able to assault. he claimed that their 7 attacks on the charge were all power attacks and that they were toughness 6. needless to say the store owner had enough of him and he got blacklisted.
pro-tip for people trying to cheat never do it against someone who knows the codex forward and backwards.

less intense than what people have in this post, but my friend argued that, as long as the sarge was part of a squad, he MUST attack whoever the squad attacks, and cannot allocate his attacks to, say, an independant character in the enemy unit, even if he was in base contact. This conveniently saved his Autarch from a power fist to the face.

hmm. Looks like you've drawn the short straw with this guy. The only thing I can think of to do is say that he can only play when he has the codex and BRB- then he can use all the rules he wants IF he shows you the codex entry. If he still refuses, whenever you play him, make up your own rules.

imagihammer? bring a nice big clawhammer. S-D AP-1 10" blast, auto-hit, no cover.
Or give all your sargeant, captains, ect. vortex grenades that auto-hit and a 12" range as a 10-point upgrade.

Anyway, he's stackin models on the table like there is no tomorrow, and when I realize he has more warriors on the table than I have Marines (no vehicles in my list, no termies or scouts). I ask to see his list as something isnt right. Turns out that he "thought" that the dash (-) right before the price of each upgrade option was a minus, so he was subtracting the upgrade costs from the base cost of each model. Most of his models were completely tricked out wiht options and therefore had negative points costs. In a 2000 point battle he prolly had 4-5k worth of bugs.

Not actually a cheating moment (it was just an off-hand remark), but someone said something that just made everybody either facepalm or laugh out loud.

"I don't want to play Tau, I mean there's too much math involved. Look at this. How am I supposed to keep track of 8/12ths of a point?"

I believe he (or someone else) actually wound up making some hugely powerful Tyranids list that was way overcost...because he kept buying all the upgrades as fractions.

I play a DC BA army and seeing as its really low point with no upgrades, (just started it) I have to throw in a lot of power weapons to make up and play games. We played a 3v3 store event thing and This Ultramarine player was talking smack. One of my best friends plays Black Templers and was on my team. So my Death Company was tearing through unit after unit of this kids ultramarines, and the Black Templers were ripping through him as well. He got annoyed at all our special rules and stated that his Ultra marines moved 7" at all times just because they were ULTRA!

I also had a guy who had a tank upgrade (like chronus) with a plasma pistol, PF, makes his tank BS5, all tanks in the army become venerable, and costed 70 points.
i refused to play both of them.

Great idea. However, it's not going to happen, for a while, at least. The only reason why he has 40K in the first place is because a teacher took pity on him and gave him his son's old Tau army, an admirable thing to do. He promptly traded them for a crappily painted, 3rd Ed. bunch of black templars.

I think I'll combat his "All marines within 12" of my Terminator Sargeant/Captain become fearless", "I can self destruct my marines for a Str8 AP1 large blast" and his " This space marine with a cloak, a bolt pistol and a chainsword which is about get owned is instantly a grey knight with 3 attacks and glorious charge(WTH??) yep. No BT guys are allowed within 12" of your warboss or they automatically take D3 wounds per model, no armour saves allowed, your warboss'es trukk is fuelled on waagh! and can move 24" and assault, and I seem to remember that any friendly model within 6" of a boss pole/waagh banner get a 4+ invulnerable save.
