personally i am not a big fan of not black rimmed bases... they serve for me as a kind of picture frame... so drawing the attention away from the model and on to the rim is a major bad decision in my view...
BUT
if you want a bit of a eyecatcher on the rim...then i´d suggest you do a nametag... a plate of some sort ...this would be a reasonable way to get a diffrent lick of paint on that area...
and if that mini is finsihed...well he is a bit on the dark side but so what... he is still looking very cool...
Okay, I'm going to make a "big" order from wayland games. Going to buy a Cadian Battle Force, two Chimeras, a Montana Spray and the Utility Paint set from Vallejo (FoW).
Is there anything else you think I should get now to my Sons of Sek force now? I really want to get all the things I need now.
I should be able to get something done, but I'm also leaving for vacation. I will try to work on some of the stuff on the vacation, but I fear I wont get much done before August.
I really hope the Autocannon is more viable on a chimera in the new edition, just because I'm tired of the multilaser look

5-points for an autocannon is simply too good to pass.
But there went a lot of rumors about that the forgeworld rules would be accepted in everything.I'm depending on that.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Added a few more details before priming.
The primer dried, then I drybrushed some Boltgun Metal then Dryad Bark and last Mournfang brown.
Here are two wips (the colours are off):
Tomorrow I will give it a varnish seal, then some hairspray before painting it yellow.
Will be interesting to see how that goes.

So I did the most sensible thing to do.. Tried the technique out on a spare piece, and I'm glad I did!
First I primed it black, then the purity seal followed, then the hairspray and lastly the yellow paint. The yellow paint was a bitch to get right, and I don't know if that kind of sealed the hairspray because I used too much.
Never the less I couldn't get the yellow paint of with water and brush, eraser or nails. Only my scalpel made scratches in the paint.
This luckily gave me a chance to test how my brown soap works for removing paint. It is soaking as we speak.
Unfortunately it means that I have to put the chimera on break while I wait for the piece to get clean and let me do another try.
Any suggestions on what could have gone wrong is appreciated.
In the meantime I will try to start modelling five Sons of Sek for half a Veteran Squad.
what scheme have you planned for that vehicle? was the brownish color supposed to be rust? cause it looks like that...and i like that... but the yellow part sounds frustrating... i bet that yellow will prove here to be very timeconsuming... have you tried out the new paints? white now works for me like a charm... maybe the yellow would be now better two?
I was aiming to do the hairspray technique where you essential first paint your miniature in rust/metal (whatever base colour) then give it a varnish and then some hairspray. After that you give it a layer of whatever colour you want the vehicle to be. Water should then dissolve the hairspray and make it look like chipping and a rough amount of use have been done on the vehicle.
The idea was for the vehicles to be a dirty dark yellow with lots of tear and wear.
hmmm.... i thought as much as that... but aren´t you making one minor mistake here? for this i expected to have a fully basecoat of the brownish coat... well i might be mistaken here... the one you atm are showing would be a shortcut to later weathering stuff of course... hmmm....
So summer vacation is over and I'm back into the hobby with more mojo than ever before, let us hope it keeps up.
Apparently I convinced two of my new friends to start painting and playing with me (they picked up Dark Eldar and Tyranids). It is a major boost to sit together with a friend or two and paint.
Here are some WIPS of my chimera and my first veteran squad:
Hope you like it, and as always comments and criticism is welcomed.
Badass man! That yellow is EXACTLY what I imagined when reading Dan describe their colors!!

@Dsteingass: Thanks! Do you mean the current yellow on the tank or the yellow on the troops?
@Vik: Hehe, no. They are quite bulky but not orks. Thanks I'm quite glad with it my self as well. Yup, I need to get the last pieces of salt of, paint the non-yellow parts and then a good wash will follow, don't worry.

I just found this post because it was on Dakka Dakka's front page, and I have to say that your work is great! I read through the entire thread from the beginning, haha, and I have to say that I love seeing things brought to life from the Black Library novels. (Especially Gaunt's Ghosts).
Your commissar WIP looks fantastic. Seeing the stuff you've done really makes me want to learn how to sculpt with greenstuff.

@Generalbenjamin89: gak I was on the frontpage? And thanks a lot for the kind words, this is my starter/practise army so I hope this is just the beginning.
Thanks, I'm feeling fairly new with greenstuff my self and every time I use it, it's a challenge. Just go out and buy some, and read some threads about it.
@SpicyBadger: Thanks. Yea, the csm and woc have great bits.
So I got some more paint and tracks on my chimera.
First images:
Okay, so this is still my first tank, so I'm hoping for some help and critique.
I need to finish the viewing ports, do something to the metal and give some more wash on the sides so it matches better with the top and bottom.
Then I was thinking drybrushing in grey tones to give it a feel of being driven through ruins, but don't know if there are better (still cheap) ways?
Should the yellow be even more dark to fit with the troops or is it fine?
Other suggestions, ideas, critique and comments are well received.

Looks fantastic! I don't think the yellow needs to be darkened but a bit of dusting over the bottom part of the tracks should look good. I also found that some streaks of black/brown ink make great oil streaks if put in the crevasses of a couple of rivets..
Really like the converted hull as well, much better than the standard design!
