Stores are inviting for a special presentation related to the wanted poster in WD, which is to take place at the 17th. Preorders for IT supposedly start the same day, after people know whats coming. That does not mean that it will be out the 24th.
Personally I doubt preorder 17th September, as it is an October release. Contradicts the strategy to show it first in the WD.

On the contrary, they are still proud that the WD Codex Sororitas (and the rules for the new Vampire monsters) was only available for about a week. This is their idea of success.

Reminds me they already did something like that:
When GW became aware that the whole stock of the Dark Heresy rulebook sold out before release (limited edition sold out in 3 minutes), they fired the responsible persons and closed down Black Industries to avoid unwelcome profit
Anyway, some more info:
NatTreehouse wrote:OK as there seems to be some debate about what "fleets" are available try this for size.
The story is basically that the Empire get ticked off with Sartosan Vampire Pirates making off with their goods. So they assemble a dirty dozen/magnificent seven style possee to hunt them down. Each "side" (I would say fleet but that seems to be causing confuzion) has around seven models. So the "sides" are Empire v Vampires, but each "side" contains iconic examples of some other races boats.
The "Empire"side has a Dwarf, Elf, Bret, Witchhunter ship and some others.
The Vampires have assorted aquatic dead icons: Ghost Ship, Egyptian Death Barge, Davy Jonez locker etc.
So there isn't a Dwarf fleet, or the possibility to build one. There's a Dwarf boat. Same for elves, and Orcs and Skaven are right outa luck.
It is a two player game with a series of linked missions like SHulk, so you don't use all your ships in every game.
Scale isn't WM (1/300 scale, 10mm size of a foot figure), nor is it MoW. It's a size to allow the sculptors to make cool, individual boats. Like the cool individual terminators in Shulk.
Some years ago there was a plan to do 28mm Sartosan Vampire Pirates. That got canned. However the Vampire Models were made and John Blanche did a crap-load of concept art. That art has been re-used for some of this.
I heard it was out in Seaptember but that was some monts ago. Looks like it swapped with Ogretobre.
That's all I got,and I heard it all months ago from the mouth of a horse, so some of it may have changed.
Harry wrote:Thanks for this expansion on your earlier posts.
That helps un-muddy the waters a good bit.
The detail of your description seems very credible to me.
Certainly makes sense of why i have heard about boats for so many races but also that it was all in one box.
I have a couple of slight difficulties ...
It seems to me I have heard about boats for Orcs and Dark Elves so I am not sure where they fit in the picture....
.... unless that Empire fleet is a very dirty dozen indeed.
When you say it is not Warmaster scale ... is it your understanding that it is a bit smaller inbetween MoW and WM or a bit bigger than WM?
I heard it was 'as near as makes no difference'. You seem to be saying it is a good bit different?
Could be these snippets I have heard which seem to conflict with what you have said are wrong so I am not doubting what you say.
And a bit clarification on the possible release date:
Harry wrote:BramGaunt wrote:Dunno if it has been said yet, but Preorders will start 17th of september.
I hadn't heard that.
BramGaunt wrote:Stores are inviting for a special presentation related to the wanted poster in WD, which is to take place at the 17th. Preorders for IT supposedly start the same day, after people know whats coming. That does not mean that it will be out the 24th.
I hadn't heard that ... sounds fun.... will there be cake? ... I didn't think they even got them in store till the week before release.
You think they are getting a pre release, 'presentation event copy' to show people?
PigeonSmythe wrote:It is being officially previewed at Gamesday.
Games Day UK Sunday is on 25th September and the item will be available to buy in stores from the Saturday after that which is Saturday 1st October. My black shirt has told me there are no advance orders for this.
This is closer to what I have heard.
and I have heard the same thing from different places too.
BUT
Maybe we are both right. It is possible that what I have heard is what is true for the 'general public' but each store gets a chance to reward its regular, full price paying, big spending, customers with an invitation and a chance to get their hands on a copy a week early the day it arrives in store.
vargojones wrote:So is this definitely a limited release?
Yes
BramGaunt wrote:My store gave me a personal invitation and explicitly told me what it was for. "Warhammer fantasy related release" they said. They did not say that the game (I lost) would be on display (or that it was a game at all, but it has to do with the wanted poster, so...) though
a presentation suggests it - most GWs have no projectors. I was very stunned about that aswell, I expected GamesDay UK to be the first preview.
(...)
Invitation doesn't mean it is invited guests only, they just hand out little cards with the dateon it, and are supposed to give one to everyone.

Just to figure what are the scale we are discussing about.
A Battle (28mm) dwarf, A Warmaster unit (10mm), a MOW ship (Approx 1/1200) and the Forge World ship designed for Warmaster few years ago (so 10mm too)
The pictures are large in order to see details. Feel free to change it if needed.

Ships not 10mm? Less interest. "dirty dozen" fleet sounds... poor to be honest, and individual ships means more chances for design to get in the way of practicality.
(As a pedantic side note 10mm is ~1:185 to 1:200 depending on the company)

I would say, about the scale, that GW already have three different scale detailed in this picture. I don't see the interest to produce stuff for a new scale. It would be really stupid.
I think this new game will be (close to) 10 mm.
And i hope it will be.

I'll most likely purchase it, although I can't say I'm super excited about it. Re-released rules/models for Mordheim or Necromunda would have had me frothing at the mouth.
Kroothawk wrote:When GW became aware that the whole stock of the Dark Heresy rulebook sold out before release (limited edition sold out in 3 minutes), they fired the responsible persons and closed down Black Industries to avoid unwelcome profit
OT: Just because it sold out immediately doesn't equate it to be profitable. The cost of keeping Black Industries afloat may not have been worth the profit it was bringing in, hence handing the reins to a 3rd party, namely FFG (who've done a bang up job on all their GW IP products). Not defending this move, just saying there is probably more to it then one line zingers.

I guess I should have been more specific. I'm aware the rules are free, but I'd pay top dollar for a new rulebook with updated/ tweaked rules and new artwork for either system. As far as models go, compared with what they can make nowadays, yes, the models from the nineties don't cut it. IMO.

Are you trying to say that GW fluff that came out in the last few years makes any sense?
Haven't the recent examples of "daemon primarch slaying supermarine", twilight marines + Necrons = BFFs and "slaying nuns will make us SUPERpure" made you realise that GW doesn't give a crap about its own universe anymore?

Yes, I'm not sure why your post got such a backlash there. Personally, despite everything being still available (which is awesome) including free rules (which is super awesome), I would be over the moon to see a Necromunda re-release with a new book, artwork, and minis. Naturally, this is because I am a massive hater. I might buy Dread Fleet too, if it looks OK, because I HATE IT SO MUCH. I dunno, sometimes it seems like there are those who are just looking for excuses to take a shot at people so they can defend GW, even when it's completely unjustified.

Perhaps because he stated Re-released rules/models for Mordheim or Necromunda would have had me frothing at the mouth And the answer to that issue is you cannot re-release something that is openly available. If the REAL issue is he wants a NEW edition, that is different. But those game systems are readily available, as are their minis. And there are SO very many companies making minis suitable for those games that it seems silly to whine and cry that you don't like the '90s minis because they are not good enough. So, rules are available. Minis are available. Lord forgive GW for doing that. And please also forgive them for doing something new instead of rehashing something old.

What are you talking about? I can only assume that you are completely misinterpreting what he said. He would be excited by a Necromunda or Mordheim re-release. How is that bloody whining? It's not complaining about the state of things now, it's saying that a re-release would be awesome. No-one's 'whining' and 'crying' here.

Those games ARE released. Right now. I can buy them.
To Re-release them, they must not be available, hence able to be re-released.
My whining and crying comment refered to the minis not being good enough. As I pointed out, there are plenty of sources for minis suitable for those games.

Well, not really. An updated version could be considered a re-release, which is what I took that to mean, seeing as how they're not unavailable, as you say.
Also, saying that it would be nice if GW released new minis because some of the old ones look dated is not whining and crying, especially not the way it was put forward. Sure, there are lots of ranges making nice minis appropriate to Necromunda, but that doesn't mean that wanting to see GW release some sweet new minis for the game is somehow something to be criticised.

Hmm, oddly, the 'Dirty Dozen' style idea might make it more viable, if it really feels like a stand alone game and not something with half your favourite fleets missing, never to be made, then yeah, I could see mysellf picking one up. Need to see the ships and any gameplay mechanics first mind.

I'm looking forward to it. I figure there will either be some other company with similarly scaled ships available, or that will make ships available to expand even if GW doesn't make them. And a stand alone boxed game is always a good thing in my book.

The joined forces idea is actually quite good. They wouldn't be forced to produce boring line ships and instead concentrate on making the miniatures as cool looking as possible. It certainly sounds more interesting than having a Gothic style game with a fleet selection butchered by space and cost constraints.

This is a stupid comment. "Thanks GW for wasting the concept" .... no-one knows yet what it is. The people who actually know (even in GW) is very limited. Making broad brush comments about something we don't really even know just makes no logical sense.

Sounds incredibly boring to me, of course I only play 40k. Surprised GW would release something like this, but I've always been in the camp of them leaving these side projects alone and focus on making their flagship games better. Will this release push back other releases? Necrons in October too yes?

No. Their release schedule is planned out fairly far in advance.
Necrons in October too yes?
No. They haven't been rumored to be in October outside of anything besides wishlisting and tenuous ties to Halloween. They're in November, and will likely be the last 'new' release of this year.
