Same music plays when you fight a "secret" boss.
A much, much creepier one when you see him up close...

I haven't beat it either. But in my defense, I've put in about 60 hours, just on four or five different characters. Farthest I got was the Tomb of the Giants. I was like, screw this, I am done. So I started a new character. Same thing happened in Demon Souls, but then I found my favorite build and beat the game many times. Just waiting for the same thing to happen with this game.

I've heard the easiest way is to get a big weapon, a big set of (Heavy) armor, and get Iron Flesh.
Haven't tried it yet, but since I'm a Pyromancer anyway.....

Ive heard of the heavy armour + big arse weapon + iron flesh spell technique, but my character thats at them is to pants on head stupid to sue magic (int of 9 or 8 i think).
Out of curiosity what weapon has everyone found to work out the best for them? For me the Black Knight Halberd even at base un-upgradedness is a beast! was hitting Gravelord Nito for about 300-400 one handed and upwards of 700 two handing it (after i got it to +5)

Pyromancy doesn't require Intelligence, all it requires from you is your souls.
I think my favorite weapon would have to be any of the Longswords. It's just a versitile weapon. In a corridor? Stab Stab Stab! surrounded by enemies? Slash em all at once! It's fast, hits rather hard, and is useful in most situations.
That doesn't include the Drake Sword, as that thing doesn't have the same attacks as a normal Long Sword.

Moonlight Greatsword +5 for my Sorcerer. Stunlock attacks with normal, and my strong attacks fire blades of energy at people.
My Paladin currently uses a Lightning Shotel +5, as I haven't found a decent faith weapon yet (though I'm upgrading Ornsteins Spear). Currently use it in combo with a Target Shield and Hornets ring. One shotting most enemies I can parry is fun.
My Warrior uses a Large Club +10. It is delightful.

Just finished my first play through with my level 111 knight... I now just need the miracle karmic justice and all miracles are mine!!!
I have three loadouts:
Super heavy: armour of smough, black iron greatshield, lightning scythe maxed, and then either fire halberd maxed or greatsword of artorias maxed, depending on my mood.
Heavy: Black iron set upgraded to 3+ everywhere (for now), same weapons as above
Light: Brass helmet, paladin chest armour, shadow gauntlets and, antiquited skirt (yes I know...). Iaito +15, Sanctus shield +14, darkwood grain ring!
By the way, does anyone know if the glitch with the forest hunter convenant has been fixed yet? 'Tis my favourite covenant and I was unjustly expelled.

Skyrim is an open world whack-a-mole simulator.
Dark Souls is all about its refined and exciting combat.
It's easy to see where you're coming from. I remember watching some vids on Skyrim, what with all the hype. It looked kind of interesting, but the combat just killed it for me. I played Skyrim at a friend's, and my reservations about the combat were only confirmed. Simply put, the combat mechanics in Skyrim are horrendously bad. That's not to say that Skyrim's a bad game, but if you're looking to play it for any reason other than open world exploration, you're playing the wrong game.
Demon's/Dark Souls has spoiled me, I guess.

As someone who's in no way a veteran gamer, I honestly don't understand what's so hard about Dark Souls. Sure, my first character died a lot, but as soon as I started with another everything just seemed so much easier. Maybe it was the patch, but the only enemies I'm having trouble with are giant skeletons and the Bridge Wyvern. I'm not saying it's bad-I've put over 100 hours in to it since I got it in October-just not that much harder than, say, Diablo 2, for me at least. I dunno. Maybe I'm just awesome like that .
My third and current character, a high strength/endurance level 70 using Raw Zweihander +5, +3 black iron armour with Havel's Helm and +9 Giant Shield, is the one who's probably had it easiest (he killed the first Black Knight in two hits. Granted, he was using a lightning-infused Zweihander with both hands at the time and got a critical hit straight away, but none of the other bosses have managed to kill him except the Wyvern, Smough and the Iron Golem).

True, but most of the enemies my third character faced I hadn't met before (I only got as far as the Depths with any other character, and never looked in the Catacombs or returned to the Asylum).

The reason Dark Souls is considered so hard is exactly that; you actually die in it, and you actually have to try to figure out what everyone does.
Most games now a days, you have to play on the hardest difficulty to die, and you can make as many mistakes as you want because of regenerating health and such. Dark Souls, you make one mistake, and your a goner.
