I think these are nice models, however they are still a bit too GWs, if you know what i'm trying to say...
It would be great see some closer photos of the actual pieces that come within the kit, to see if the level of detail and this new material is so good as it seems and it worths the price.

Ok gonna bite and order some when I have the money. If only to help fund a company which I am hoping will invest that money in making more lovely models and kits, preferably asap for the fantasy races which people would be inclined to buy *coughwhfbcough*. Indeed if I could sculpt at all, I'd be inclined to offer my services. Great job, keep up the quality.
On an unrelated note will your characters range be staying metal or swapping to resin?

I've always kinda been interested in a Chaos army, but I figure I don't need a third Fantasy army. Plus, I don't like the look of the Warriors (fur cloaks, mostly). Then, AoW comes out with these new miniatures and I think "ah, crap, those are nice models, but I'm not making a Chaos army. Besides, limited weapon selections." Then I find out that they've got different weapon selections and I just need to pick the best. "Aha," my fervered mind reasons, "but they'll be ungodly expensive. After all, 12 Warriors of Chaos sell for $35, and these are so much better. Plus, there's more of them." And now I find out that not only are these awesome miniatures produced with different weapons, but they're also reasonably priced. WHAT THE FETH?!?! I'm going to have to pre-order some now. Where can I hang my shame? Edit: ...wait, Free Shipping if I buy 2 or more? Crap. This might get expensive.

The only questions left are: what arrangements, and how many?
I'm thinking HW/Shield and 4.

This made me curious, so I crunched the numbers.
At $35 for 12, GW's models come out to ~$2.92 USD each.
At 37.50 Euro ($49.47), these come out to ~$2.47 USD each.
That's about $.45 per model difference.
Granted, they're "more reasonably" priced, but do you really consider that to be reasonable?
Presuming you find the model quality satisfactory, what is the cut off for a plastic model of this type (multi-part kits) to be considered "reasonably priced." I'm genuinely curious.
Thanks.

Given the price of most of AoW's stuff, yes ($15 for a character model is high, even if it's less than GW). I actually don't think that GW's WoC models are unreasonably priced (given their quality and pricing of similar models; Empire state troops are $2.47 each and orc boys are $2.90 each. My main complaints with GW's WoC line are: 1) I don't like the Warrior models, specifically their fur cloaks; and 2) Chosen are expensive and metal. If I were to build an army, I would want to include both of these units. Avatars of War solves the first of these problems. MagikalMemories wrote:Presuming you find the model quality satisfactory, what is the cut off for a plastic model of this type (multi-part kits) to be considered "reasonably priced." It depends on the quality and usefulness of the model. I would pay, tops, $3/each for Avatars of War models, because they're that good. However, I can't justify spending $2.47 each for Empire State Troops, simply because they're not great looking models; and I would need a lot of them.

MM, I consider better than GW and cheaper than GW to be a reasonable price. Hence my order of 3 boxes this morning.
HW/Shld, GW, and 2HW. I figure I can make two units of 30 with the type I'm not using intermingled with the main type in each unit. Of course some bits will inevitably end up as conversions for my Night Lords...

I lied, I bought a hero figure too. I figured when I was buying 4 boxes (2 halberds, 2 sword & board), another 11 EUR isn't going to break the bank.
Too bad the "Lord of Death" isn't done yet. He would have made the cut.

These are just plain delicious... I can't use them, as my WoC is an all-monster army, but if I were fielding warriors or chosen, it'd be these, no question.
I especially like the halberds option, although it's a shame you have to choose and can't get all the weapons... Perhaps "weapon packs" could be offered separately, if people wanted to magnetize? Doesn't seem likely that anyone would go to the trouble for rank-and-file models like this, however, even if used as Chosen.
