Let me start by saying that the re-done flame effect on the floating model looks much more vibrant and stunning now. Great job! Also, regarding those Harem Guards, the plastic Nurgle Lord would make a fantastic base for that particular conversion. All you need are some GS skills -- obviously not a problem, considering your sculpts so far...

Regarding the walker, if you are gunning for a more organic look, why not consider adding some parts from the Forgefiend/Maulerfiend kit or indeed use it as a base altogether? The shape of the main body is quite similar to the first of the two Devianart pictures you posted. And it obviously does have the chaos look you want. Maybe it would even be possible to combine the Forgefiend body with the more insectoid legs of a Defiler or even Necron Stalker? The only thing to take note of here is that the Forgfiend is a bit smaller than a regular Defiler (mostly because of the legs, though).

In any case, I'd personally go for one kit to use as a base for the daemon engine. Completely scratchbuilding it would be too much of a hassle for me -- that's just my personal approach, though.

Interesting idea. I own a forgefiend so i know how large he is. And i still have the additional maulerfiend bits left over. But i would need a body and the other pieces.
The only problem is that i would need another expensive kit to build it and i already don't like the price of a defiler on it's own.

I'll think about it.

I found this last night while trying to get reference pictures, it's sort of a Mantis - defiler?

And then I found this, which is kind of what I was trying to convey, just a little more like a landing craft on the top and full of live slaves and not corpses (but that could be cool as well)

Then I made a sloppy sketch of my idea before going to sleep. It's not to scale or proper in any way (there aren't many pictures of defiler backs). It's not a schematic, more of a reference point.

I didn't do much 40k related the last days so it was a little bit silent on my end.

@Deunstephe:
Your sketch lookes way better than the stuff i did. I shows what you mean

And i still didn't order ... lazy as ever. But today i realized that i will actually get money from the institute i make my master's thesis at. So i can increase the limit i set myself for my order. So the defiler might get in my order and/or some other kits.

And i have at least some pics to show you.

I did some more work on her and washed the purple. Still a lot to do but i'm getting there. Now i have to figure out how to paint some chaotic maschinery under her skin.

And i started to assemble my warp talons. Still need to assemble the last one and get some daemonette feets for those without feets.

Thanks.

But it has still a long way till finish. As my plan is to create all possible weapon options. Some are still missing like the melee weapons and most of the additional weapon options the current CSM added.

The more paint I see on that dread, the more I love it! I'm going to be placing some orders next month, and now I'm stuck on what to do! I can either invest in sculpting, continue with my Orks, build an IG-based Rogue Trader Army, or... I don't know! Your skill makes me envious!

@Deunstephe:
I don't know how much money you have but obviously go with what you like the most. Starting a new army is probably the most expensive option. And i'd say investing in sculpting is probably a cheaper investment. Green Stuff isn't that expensive if you go with the original one from Kneadite and not the GW one. (It's the same stuff just with another packaging.) Milliput standard is dirt cheap and you don't need the expensive tools. They come in handy once you have a decent skill level and want more.

Sadly still no actuall update from me. No real painting done and the same with sculpting. Some updates here and there but nothing worth showing. I also haven't ordered yet ...

The only thing that i have for you today is a question. I've decided to completely redo the arms of The Eternal Siren. This means that i can change the pose and weapons of her. My idea is to build her with 4 arms. The upper pair with a twohanded weapon - probably a sword of some kind - raised above her head. And the other arms holding one handed melee weapons like cuved blades or something smililar.
What's you opinion? What would you do?
And if you don't know of what model i'm talking about. It is this one. A custom sculpted Keeper of Secrets in similar style of the forgeworld one.

I like the two-handed weapon idea, but what if she had two, and swung them in opposite directions? Or she's getting read to throw a massive spear, and her smaller hands are holding extra ones? Alternatively she could be holding a bow, and the smaller hands holding arrows.

I imagine two twohanded weapons would be akward. They would get in each others way all the time. And ranged weapons are not what i imagined for her. A spear might work but a bow is a no go for me. I'll think about the spear.

The lower arms would have to be longer, but that would be really interesting! You don't see multi-limbed joints much these days.

An interesting idea. I have to think about it - especially how the arm anatomy would look like to actually support such a thing. And also i have to think about if this would actually be an advantage for wielding twohanded weapons that way.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I haven't done much hobby stuff the last week but i still don't want to go updateless for too long. So here is another short update, this time with actuall new content.

This is the state of my additional noise marines. They are missing some details here and there and a few heads. I thought about buying another set of kromlech helmets but for diversity i decided against it. They'll get some costum sculpted ones.

And i also worked on this demon princess a little bit more. Some of you might recognize what i mainly used as reference. (And it's not the queen of blades this time.) I think the thighs are a little bit to wide - especially with those spikes. But it's still in an accepteable state i think. And if it isn't i still can call it a case of warped demonic anatomy.

A kroot! Maybe? Those thighs aren't too thick, unless you make the rest of the legs very thin. Can't wait to see those custom marine helms!

Well those helmets won't be complete custom made. I'll cut up some spare heads and create my own details like on most of my noise marines that don't have the kromlech heads.

And the reference isn't a kroot. It's a boss from a computer game and was made into a (verrrrry expensive) limited edition figure. I use pictures of both the game artwork and the unpainted model as reference. Don't know if that helps you identify it.

Oh and i have painted today. After 10 or so model basecoated in purple i could not stand purple anymore and worked on only one model and more colors. It is close to finish. Some details here and there and some edge highlight and it is done.
Strange. Somehow i always paint my stuff close to finish but never add the final touch ... Maybe I'll need to force myself to actually finish all those nearly done models.

I've got no idea what game you're talking about, but sounds fun! Nice possessed, really like the blending where the flesh fuses with the weapons! I can hardly blend colours, honestly.

I thought that myself once. But to be honest blending isn't that hard. It is just time consuming and you need a way to mix colors.
This is how i do it. Start with the base color and paint the whole area you want to blend. Mix a little bit of your second color into your base color and water it down. Then paint one layer over the base color with this mix.
After that add another bit of your second color to your already mixed color and apply this in another smaller layer. Mix more and more of your blending color to the color mix and add layer after layer until you finish it with your second color in a pure state.

And as i water down the color very heavyly i don't need too much layers as the underlaying color shines still through. That helps with blending. And if the layers are still visible you can add a wash or glaze to pull them together.

I don't have the colours for blending, and I don't really need it either. However, I'm stripping some old minis to cannibalize, and one of them is a metal Zoanthrope.

That painted possessed it looking awesome. The head you've used is my favourite out of the set. I also really like your noise marines.

The thighs on your daemon princess look fine. They look strong, like she could really do some damage to anyone who dared to take her on.

Could the new sculpt be inspired by a Mirelurk King from Fallout 3? At least that's what I felt reminded of...

Anyway, the sculpt is looking great! The new possessed Marine looks expertly painted, although I am not a fan of the red -- that's only a matter of personal preference, though. It's still very good work!

With regards to the weapons, how about 2 1-handed scythes (like the ones Death uses in Darksiders 2) and 2 arms terminating in traditional Slaaneshi lobster claws?

Well you can blend with whatever colors you use. If you have a base color and a highlight color you can blend them into each other just by gradiently mixing one color into the other. The only think youd need is some sort of pallet or wet pallet to mix them on.

Thanks. And you probably are right with the thighs. The problem was that i looked at the model in it's current state. But without the rest of the legs and arms it is hard to judge. I compared it with my reference and i'm still in the green.

It's not from fallout. It's a blizzard game. They do incredible artwork. I have both starcraft2 and warcraft artbook. Now that i think of it it might be nice to look in there for additional inspiration.
And with the red i wanted some kind of exposed muscle tissue look. It looked really cool next to the black primed armor but next to the purple and gold is isn't as good looking as i hoped it would. I'll probably try some gloss varnish over the muscles once i ordered it.

I did experiment on another possessed today with a more pink skin. I like it more than the red. But i got reminded that i really need better quality brushes as all of mine don't have a firm tip anymore. Especially highlighting every single muscle fibre was more a work of luck and not skill due to the wide brittles.

Why didn't i think of daemonette claws earlier. I liked the twohanded approach but i disliked how the arms and weapon covered the head and horns. I think i'll use your suggestion or at least look at death's weapons for inspiration. (And war might also be source of inspiration )

I also worked on my warp talons some more. They are all in a state where i need additional bitz that i currently don't have. So i REALLY need to make my order soon.

I just saw your comment about gloss varnish over the red muscle tissue. Definitely try it out. I did that with one of my possessed (the best picture is probably here http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/468372-prancer.html?m=2) and I really like the result. I've since used it for wet effects on a few of my daemons and I'm really happy with how it looks. I just used clear nail varnish.

I'm also a fan of the pink skin, it looks awesome.

By biggest problem with those possessed is to come up with creative and demonic skin colors that differ from my more pale grey normal marines but look nice next to the gold and purple.

I really like the pink one so i'll probably do more of it. It is a 1:1 mix of emperors children and fenrisian grey as a base and i gradiently added white to get the lighter layers. Then washed with magenta wash and finally red wash in the deeper recesses.

Is there really a need to come up with a more "daemonic" skin colour in the first place? After all, the daemonic possession is readily apparent by just looking at the twisted limbs and body. If you wanted to underline the fact that the ruinous powers were possessing the body, I'd rather go for an OSL effect on the eyes, or something like that. Introducing too many colours is a surefire way to disaster

That said, the latest Possessed with the pinkish skin is fantastic, like I said, and in my opinion, you should probably paint all your Possessed that way!

Sorry for the slow updates but i didn't felt like working on my army the last few weeks. But i've found some of my motivation back the last days and continued on my seemingly endless journey to a complete army.

@KrautScientist: OSL on possessed sounds like a good idea. Maybe even glowing cuts or runes on their skin. I'll try that on my next possessed.

I've worked on my noise marine helmets. I only need 3 now as i used a daemonette head on one of my headless noise marines but i'll still finish all 4 of them.
The second from the left will get a rework and the round dot on his helmet removed. I don't like it as it turned out to large. And the spike on the 3rd helmet will be turned into a whole spike mohawk.

And thanks to the suggestion for looking at darksiders. There are some really cool weapon artworks for that game. They inspired me for these pieces. Those two in the back are supposed to be something like death's scytes that i think of using on my Eternal Siren. And the axe head is for my demon princess.

Speaking of my demon princess. I extensively worked on her the last days and i really like how she looks. She is still far from finished but she is very promising. I even came up with a very basic concept of a backstory that inspired some parts of her current design. She is a slaanesh demon princess who enjoyed the bloody work of battle so much that she is on the brink of turning over to the power of khorne.(Hence the skulls motif) I only had one spare skull so i sculpted some of my own. Harder than i thought so i might buy some from a bitz shop for the rest of her skill belt. And maybe some zombi heads or other trophies like that.
The pelt is maybe a little bit to clean and misses some more twisted fur but once painted it will probably don't matter
