What we need here is a good montage. Someone put on some catchy, up-beat music! Then all we need is a couple of quick action shots of conscripts being painted, and by the time the song is over, the whole squad will be done.

(If only batch painting large squads worked that way)

If only.

Looking good though Cpt. Good idea taking off the shoulder pads to make them stand out.

Thanks evildrcheese,

I was happy how the Demolisher turned out, it was the second rebuild/refurbishment of that tank...which is an original pewter barrel. And the Conscripts...I agree as they are 3 point models.

Two more Conscripts get painted:

Only 25 more to go...the Conscripts were painted two by two hurrah, hurrah. Only half of a legal unit.

Love what you're doing with the conscripts, they stand out from the basic guardsmen so finding them on the table won't be a nightmare. Very smart move.

Thanks Inevitable_Faith,

To be honest I have liked this look so much that I considered converting the rest of my army...then I counted the 200+ figures I would have to change, then the conversions for Special Weapons and metal figures and I quickly discarded the idea. Besides the filing off of the shoulder pads is bad enough, let alone all the drilling for heads, painting, etc.

Two more Conscripts get painted, these two were a little rushed and would need some touch-up later...but they are only 3 point models:

Only 23 more to go...the Conscripts were painted two by two hurrah, hurrah.

Nice work on the expendable suckers....er, I meant heroic conscripts, and the Demolisher. I'm especially digging the paint work on that Demolisher. You've taken a model that looks like a chibi tank and made it look like a hardcore war machine. I like it.

Thank you evildrcheese, perseverance or more likely sheer stubbornness kept it going.

With that two more Conscripts join the unit.

Great looking army! What is the name of the brown you use for your men's pouches and such? And (sorry if you have already mentioned it but I haven't read the whole thread) what are those heads you are using for your conscripts? You have inspired me.

Thank you ExFideFortis,

The Brown used in the pouches is Bubonic Brown with a highlight of Bleached Bone and Bubonic Brown mixed (they have new names now, but somewhere there is a paint compatibility charge on the forum.

The heads on the Conscripts are from the Berlin or Bust line of Separate Heads. They are not bad, but lack the fine detail in the faces you are likely used to from plastic and resin (they are pewter I believe).

Speaking of which...the Conscripts were painted two by two, hurrah! Hurrah!

Wow dude. The patience you have to paint up this unit is unbelievable. When you field them they'll be like 70 points on the table right? Keep up the good work man, they look great.

Do you give them a heavy brown wash (or chestnut)? I would have pegged the pouches as Snakebite Leather or Bestial Brown. Bubonic Brown (at least my pot) is a much lighter beige/khaki.

Nice work on the tanks and banging out the conscripts.

Thanks Inevitable_Faith,
A 35 man Conscript squad is 105 points...I have been enjoying combining 3 Infantry squads and sending forward these large units and watching my opponents focus on trying to knock them out, a Priest or a Commissar keeps them moving and as soon as they are in Lasgun range the "Front Rank Fire, Rear Rank Fire" order means even Space Marine's take casualties. This squad would let me do that for less cost with a few less hits due to lower ballistic skill...but the sheer number of dice makes opponents cringe.

Nevelon is correct Snakebite Leather and then Bubonic Brown mixed with Snakebite Leather as the highlight. Just have the Snakebite in a Bestial Brown bottle...not sure why...might have been the lid breaking on the original.

Thanks Nevelon.

Another two Conscripts.

17 to go, 18 completed...over half way...but still two short of a legal unit.

Do you think they look young enough to Whiteshields of early WD fame...or short lived fame as they disappeared from the fluff with 2nd Edition if I recall correctly.

Old paint names are something I can actually help with. Mostly these days I can only talk in generic terms like “a medium-dark brown” because I have no idea what the exact shade “XV-88”, “Burnt Fyrewumple Hide”, or whatever else they are putting on the side of the pots these days is. And the lids snapping off the old pots? Almost every one of mine. The part that bugs me the most when it breaks is the little plastic nub that gives you a grip to open them. If that comes off, the pot becomes a real bear to work with.

I think they would make great whiteshields. The lack of helmets/heavier armor makes them look slimmer then a stock guardsmen, so younger.

Thanks Nevelon,

So here are two more Conscripts, to make a legal squad of 20. More of them to come, but a moment to savour painting victory.

Thank you Camkierhi, evildrcheese, and Bonestomper,

I play a Ratskin gamg in Necromunda.

So I continue with the Conscripts, but since you would not be able to see the new additions I will start a new count and new group shot of the next 15.

Also made an older looking Conscript to represent the sweepings of the Gang to make the numbers required.
