pjmcgrath07 wrote: I wanted to weigh in on this discussion as the Blood Angel stuff is for me. Ill start saying that i received the models back today and i am very very pleased with brothers job. I was a little worried based on the pictures but the only reason is that because he takes very close and very well lit pictures. In my hand these guys look fantastic for what i paid. He is a talented painter but im sure he will agree is not a golden daemon painter. His prices are very well priced and his pictures do not do justice to how good the models look in your hand or on a tabletop.
The mephiston model i won in an auction and it was a real big mess when i gave it to him. Though i thought the facepaint looked bad in the pictures it looks good when i have it in my hand. If you look over these models with a magnifying glass they wont look great and certainly are not golden daemon pieces. However they are great quality for the price and i am very happy with them even though i myself was worried at one time. Thanks again brother, great job and your pictures dont do your models justice.

Thanks for the great testimonial I honestly felt like Mephiston is one of the better models I'd painted, but the face and winged shoulderpad look kinda goopy on the really close in pictures. Glad you're liking your Blood Angels, and I had a lot of fun painting them, repeated blends aside.

I've got a bunch of Crimson Fists in my gallery, but they're fairly old, and lack shading. I'm hoping to paint up a squad of Sternguard for them soon with everything I know now!

Here's a few :

Ah, this will soon be known as the yellow commission blog. Still, I think those imperial fists may be the best models on here so look forward to seeing these bad bys done. Assuming they are imperial fists of course. And i not, then I look forward to seeing what they are anyway!

Ah, well, I never did think Pedro looked good in yellow.. IF's are very hard to do a good job of, as yellow is one of the hardest colours to paint (AFAIK). Good luck on this one, SRM!

If you want to see a good yellow pedro mini, then check out gitsplitta's blog, on his mantis warriors, he used Pedro as his commander painted in tranquility veteran colours and it looks amazing.

Finally got some pictures!

I'll be adding transfers to them soon, then matt varnishing them. Unfortunately some of them were a bit gunked up by the primer, namely on the chest aquilas and the like. I had to sort of wing it for highlights there, but the ones that still had their definition came out nicely. I've missed a spot or two judging by the photos, but that's since been taken care of!

I've used Armypainter yellow, and it's come off very fuzzy and problematic. I've used Krylon yellow and that's a bit better over a white basecoat. These Terminators were actually already primed this color when I got them! I've been using Sunburst Yellow for touch ups and highlights, and Ogryn Flesh for shading.

Good job, SRM. Very well done, I congratulate you on your success at painting red and yellow .

I'd HIGHLY recommend running golden yellow through an airbrush. Gets on very even and smooth, is astoundingly bright, and uses about 1/10th of the normal amount of paint

They look a little bit plain at the moment. Are you planning on adding anything else to break up the monotony of straight yellow?
Still, I like them, they just need something...more.

Great job as always on the yellow. I do agree with Tim in that they seem quite plain but I'm sure the transfers will sort that out

Brother SRM, I may need to try that Krylon Fusion yellow when my next batch of Fists comes in. I really should do my own commission Blog as well, if only to force me to put more pictures online.

It's a hell of a motivational tool! Just make sure to prime white before hitting them with the Fusion; otherwise some of the grey plastic comes through and it looks a little unsightly.

Just a minor update; I'm working on assault Marines right now! They were half-painted with some kind of blotchy yellow, and I'm smoothing that out into a new yellow. Mine is on the right:

I just wrapped up 10 tactical Marines:

Models are looking great as always. I love the axe and don't recall seeing it before. Where did you get it from?

So close to putting the yellow away for another day! Do you know what you have got lined up next?

That axe is actually a vanilla part on the old Space Marine veterans kit. It's a great old model!

Right now I've got Pedro Kantor and a few more Marines for this commission, then I've got a big commission that's basically me half-painting another guy's army. He doesn't want me posting about it here so I'll be respecting that and not posting his stuff. A friend of mine is going to have me paint his Belial, so that'll be happening too.

Okay, in the home stretch here! I painted up all the heavy weapons, a handful of extra Marines, a sergeant, and put transfers on every single Marine as per the client's request. Unfortunately, the round Imperial Fists transfer doesn't like the Marine shoulderpads much, but I did the best I could with em. Anyway, here's the nearly completed commission:

Lastly, I have two sergeants and Pedro Kantor to paint, then the commission's complete!

You have no idea how happy it made to find this blog, The Imperial Fist were my other option when it was time to choose an army to play. Yellow is such a nice color. and besides they look pretty damn good, even drilled the barrels, good man.

Imperial Fists are done! Here they are in the classic "Space Marine battle pile" tactical formation:

That's it for these Imperial Fists folks! I have three commissions lined up; one Belial for a personal friend of mine, more stormtroopers for another, and another Space Marine army, but the guy doesn't want me posting them in this thread so that's hush hush for now!

And some extra shots of the big man himself:

I ended up using a Grey Knight stormbolter and a leftover Space Marine commander shoulderpad I had. And yes, that chapter logo is freehand!
