Minor update on the models: First pics of the resin masters and a hint at a later release date:

Raging Heroes wrote:Masters for the Manticore / Lamassu

posted January 09, 2011

We've added two photos of the 3D printed master of the Manticore / Lamassu here! Check'em out and tell us what you think!!

Several operations by various suppliers in Europe are required to get our master ready from casting and with all the heavy snowstorms that impaired postal traffic in the entire second half of December in Europe, this master had a long journey to make, being held up several time in airports between Germany, France, Spain, and then to its final destination in the UK. Our master caster eventually received it on December 30th, and immediately went to work on it, but not without first telling us that "the master is excellent, and will produce a truly exceptional model. It is very clean and highly detailed."

So while we did lose about two weeks with the Holidays and the storms, things are moving forward at full tilt. There are quite a few pieces to the model, so many moulds are necessary: the master moulds are programmed to be done this week, and then, onwards to the production moulds.

On our end, pre-orders have been very good. With resin casting a time-consuming operation, we will ship orders in the order in which they were placed, and we will keep you posted on the status of production and shipping. At this point, we expect to start shipping all pre-orders by the 4th week of January. As soon as we have photos of the first casts, we will post them as well.

And remember how we said that the Manticore will be made of high quality, somewhat flexible resin? Well, we weren't kidding! Here's a short video showing a resin wing being abused by rough hands:

I have to say though, when propped up on that Manticore, he just looks better the more you look at him. When I first saw the rider, I was less than ecstatic, but the more I see him, the more I warm up to him.

I will give you that but it looks funny next to the Lamasu head they should have had a tall hat dwarf there instead. So we looking about $50 $60 bucks here?

Guessing from the bluetack, I would say:
Body, head, tail, left foreleg, base, two wings with 2 parts each plus multipart rider.

And adding a GW miniature as rider would not be wise in the current witch hunt for GW aftermarket products.

I am certain an 'evil dwarf' would have been possible. It was a tight timeframe though, so hopefully one day.

I've actually been looking at whether it will be possible to cut down the current rider to a dwarf as he has nice armour.

Master looks excellent! Interesting the different materials the rider / heads are made out of vs. the body. I wonder if it is for more detail or what the reason is for that...

*Curses work computer and waits to head home and see video of flexible resin...

Also, I'm pretty sure I was one of the first to order so I'm lookin' forward to this! The timeframe's fine, I wouldn't mind if they weren't shipping until mid-Feb even, but don't tell anyone

I'd personally rather see your version of a Manticore, but would have to modify another company's if you didn't make one.

We've just added a "dream mini" interactive form to our website. Basically, we want to hear about all your crazy wishes and dreams for miniatures.
And guess what? Should we create a mini that happens to be along the lines of what you shared with us, and should you have been the first to write us about it, then we'll gift you that mini when it becomes available!

So, Kirbinator... While you haven't completed this form (seeing that it didn't exist), you should know that you've just got yourself a free Lord Vampire/Dark Elf/Chaos Demon mounted on a Manticore!!!

Now, that being said, I must admit I could not possibly be happier with or more excited about this miniature! Both the beast and the rider have far surpassed my expectations and desires and it will be on my table in every single army list I write. Can't wait!

As at the time of writing (Tuesday 11th of January) Kirby's avatar is a cute pussy (oo-er Mrs. Slocombe) wearing a Santa hat.

Note, five days AFTER Twelfth Night, by which time all decorations and Santa hats ought be removed to avoid the mayhem and mishap caused by Loki, trickster, naughty elf or Lord of Misrule, or whovever is supposed to inflict ill luck upon the hapless victim who has failed to comply with removing festive items.

So how come has Kirby been blessed with a Manticore?
Jammy sod!

nice one!

That thing is immensely ace! I also REALLY like the sorceress model on the website (with the chaos helmet). You guys at 'raging heroes' are certainly handy with a zbrush if you'll pardon the pun. On that topic What program do you use? I wish you all the best in your business endeavors. On a side note do you sell bits? I mite be interested in ten or so of the horned 'asharath' (closed the tab forget to get the spelling) heads.

That was their first model and a very limited run that sold out in 28mm very quickly. The 54mm version is still available (and GORGEOUS), but obviously not the proper size to be used in game as a standard character; I'll be using her as a statue personally. Keep an eye out, though, they'll be coming out with an Anniversary Edition of Asharah soon so you'll be able to pick her up in 28mm again!

Kirbinator- I had no idea you had suggested this idea in 2009! (albiet on the last day)

That's awesome! So I take it you are receiving a free one, and didn't have to shell out the cash for it this time?

(Btw, how are those treekin going along with syl-iriah? we need pics in the fantasy section!)

I wouldn't say it was as much of a suggestion as it was a plea for awesomeness. I loved the original Asharah trio (still do) and loved the idea of Manticores in my Dark Elf list. Naturally I was a little underwhelmed by the GW one and nobody really has a proper alternative model. I couldn't have imagined RH would not only pick up on this idea but also get it so amazing! I think it will be the final straw that will spur me into finishing modeling and painting my army.

RiTides wrote:(Btw, how are those treekin going along with syl-iriah? we need pics in the fantasy section!)

I need to hit up the local Wally World for some proper glue, my Zap-a-Gap dried up in the bottle thanks to an air leak and I'm looking for a replacement since this is the third time this has happened to me. I'm thinking a two-part epoxy or maybe Gorilla's superglue so things like glued-on caps won't be an issue.

Certainly not to be rude but... seriously? This question is asked at least four other times throughout the thread and answered all in the same way: While we'll all agree that the initial run of Asharah's crew weren't the most defined models around, take a look at their recent models. They're fantastically detailed and the live metal models are quite literally just as detailed as the 3d print previews show them to be. Regarding the Manticore itself, there are photos of the Master further up this page.

Yes, their detail has gotten sharper.

I'm using Gorilla brand super glue on a lot of metal PP models at the moment, and I highly recommend! Someone had tipped me into the fact that they simply used it, and scored the surface of the two parts with the tip of a file in a hatch pattern, and were able to avoid using pins in some places where they might have been necessary otherwise.

I've been very pleased with it... I also picked up Zap a Gap, but haven't used it in this most recent spurt of assembling since the Gorilla super glue has done so well. They also carry it at Home Depot

No problem chief. I really didn't mean for it to come off as harshly as it did; the best confirmation of the night-and-day difference in Raging Heroes's first sculpts compared to their more recent work is by going to their site and actually checking out their photos of the live metals. I'll also be picking up some glue soon to assemble my little collection and put some photos in a WiP Gallery. A soft grey primer goes a long way in removing some of the harsh glare that photos of bare metal can give.

johnstewartjohn wrote:they still going to do sci fi versions?

If memory serves, they mentioned having SciFi miniatures in the works before, but there have not been any previews posted on their site just yet. I imagine they're still working on the SF versions though, I think Asharah would fit in great with DE or Inquisition with very little modification.

RiTides wrote:Someone had tipped me into the fact that they simply used it, and scored the surface of the two parts with the tip of a file in a hatch pattern, and were able to avoid using pins in some places where they might have been necessary otherwise.

Hmm... there's a Home Depot right down the road, closer than Wally World. Those Syl-Iriah and Tree Warrior (and demon-winged Kahn Urkan ) photos might be arriving as soon as this weekend comes up. Classes in the morning and work in the afternoon/night means very little time during the week for hobbies.

Really? I had a very bad experience using Gorilla brand Super Glue when trying to assemble DE Incubi, but I didn't score the surfaces first. Did you really rough the areas up, like harsh sandpaper level rough, or did you just incise a few lines?

I definitely did not do more of a general roughening of the surfaces with sand paper (definitely thought about it). The person who suggested it to me really recommended the "cross-hatching", basically just scratching lines into the surface with the tip of an exacto knife or a file (I like the tip of the file best so I don't cut myself).

Seems to work really great so far! But I don't have lots of experience with these things, I was just much more pleased with it than with previous super glue, to the point that I didn't feel the need to try out the Zap a Gap just yet (even though I bought it, too).

Also, looking forward to the photos, Kirbinator!

That’s okay Kirbinator it’s quite easy to have misunderstandings within forums, no harm done. I should have re-read the thread before posting really.

I was asking about casting because I was thinking of getting Eleriel and Alaniel, to use as slaves for a dark elder project I’m working on. I just wanted to know if the detail is more or less as crisp as the masters, so from what you’re saying there isn’t a problem.

I got those two @ 28 mm and was disappointed. Don't know if they've redone the molds for those. If they are still doing the original cast I would say you should avoid.

I got the originals and wasn't too pleased. I don't know if they remolded them; I kind of hope so, because there was a LOT of potential that got missed there. (they are a pain to put together though, fair warning )

If they did redo the molds, I don't suppose they would do a return policy? I have put together two of the original three, but the queen herself is still in parts, and I would like a nicer version if possible...
