Steve no need to get over sensitive on this. I see you missed the parts of my post where I talked about teaching my kids to respect other people as well as themselves. You seem immediately jump to the conclusion that I teach them to look down on other people and stand in judgement on them.
You seem to be splitting a lot of hairs in your post and standing in judgement yourself when I say I typed a URL from a Rand Mcnally map book a few years ago and it took me to a porn site that was fairly disgusting and I was angry about it because my at the time 10 year old daughter saw it.
Being judgmental? No, just pointing out that what you are blaming on the Internet and the porn industry is, most likely, your fault and the fault of illigal and immoral people. I'm not judging or criticising you for that, just suggesting that you would be better educating yourself than blaming others. I'm not splitting hairs, I'm pointing out a clear distinction between a legal and legit industry and the darker side of the Internet, that has nothing to do with porn, just uses it as a trap. I don't think you understand what I'm saying.
You seem to be blaiming the porn you have seen on the Internet as the fault of the porn itself or the industry at large. This is like blaiming kids buying alcohol from a guy in the park on the alcohol industry.
I'll assume something about you now in that you don't have kids yet. When you do, I believe you will see things a bit differently.
Ah... The resort of all parents. "When you have kid". Kids has nothing to do with this at all. I'm not saying anything about kids. I'm talking about your attitude to the porn industry. I'm saying you are wrong. I even offerd you advice on how to avoid this happening again.
There were reports at the time of people accidently running into porn on the defunct Napster (which people got free music from) site because they hadn't realized porn was featured.
Um... People went to a site offering access to illigal matirial and there was porn there. Wow! Supprise!
Firstly that is nothing like your previous assertion that Napster was owned by a porn company (that it was not) and secondly, yes, I remember at the time people were putting up porn under other names thinking it was funny. That is nothing to do with napster, or the porn industry, or the porn. People were also putting up other offensive matirial under false names. Beheadings, shootings, other things like this. This is a net safty issue, not a porn issue. And this was not a case of people going to napsters website and *bam* porn. They were downloading the stuff using napsters P2P client. Not on the Internet at all.
The fact is your lack of knoledge has been the problem. Rather than teaching your kids about the dangers of porn I seriously suggest you read up on web safty and teach your kids.
It is people with lack of knoledge that has caused this problem. And, yes, I am quite defensive about this. Since the extream porn laws I am quite vocal on the danger of blindly legistltating for moral outrage. I am very pro porn, pro sex and pro freedom and thing all of these things need advocates to fight against misunderstanding.

Some people are addicted to hardcore pornography, some to crack, some to molesting fish. Then there are those who collect thousands upon thousands of miniature orcs. And they need help, too.
For the uninitiated, Warhammer is a table-top battle game played with miniature figurines that comes in two forms: Warhammer fantasy and Warhammer sci-fi (it’s all the same crap, but the latter has guns). Armies of different creatures that bear more than a passing resemblance to those featured in Tolkien (orcs, goblins, knights, dwarves) fight to the death on the roll of a dice. Some people collect for the sake of winning battles, others (like muggins ‘ere) just for the sake of painting the models. The whole experience is pitched at teenage boys, but some of them never quite grow up and you’ll find men with dank pony tails still collecting well into their thirties. Emphasis upon “boys” and “men” – this underworld is no place for a lady.
I mean, seriously. If that does go ahead I will spray paint myself red, find David Cameron and cut his head off with a hedge strimmer whilst roaring "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!"

To be fair, there's a difference between porn that is openly presented as porn and porn that is designed to take advantage of typos in going to a non-porn website. The site in question was set up as a deliberate attempt to get people to see porn even when they aren't trying to, and it's entirely fair to object to that kind of dishonest and aggressive presentation.
But that again is not porns fault. The same happens with gambling, prescription drugs, dodgy finance things etc. normally they redirect to porn, try and get people to click on at and that will lead to malware or to sell stuff very much on the edge of society,
That is nothing to do with porn and everything to do with basic net safety, which is my point.

Yes, those things are also bad. But that doesn't excuse the behavior of porn companies doing the same thing.
There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
Also imagine if there's an error with the filter! Now you have to call and speak to someone from the government about how you can access your porn!

That was pretty much my number one reason for facepalming the whole idea. The notion that the filters would actually stop the availability of porn. People *will* find ways around it.
In fact, I think I hit the nail on the head with the comparison to piracy earlier. DRM doesn't stop pirates from getting hold of the music, games and movies they want, it just delays them a little, and when they get them it's usually made free of any intrusions, interruptions or unskippable "do not pirate this" screens. Meanwhile the valid consumers are made to suffer in this futile bid to stop them, as it's us that have to put up with things like those screens, or always-online requirements for single player games, or issues synchronising properly purchased mp3s with approved programs when a simple copy/paste of the files would do the trick.
Likewise with porn. Those seeking to access porn for everyday normal use will find they're having problems. But those with the much more dubious and unusual tastes are in many cases already well accustomed to hiding their habits and will continue to be able to do so, by using sites and resources that don't immediately flag up as dodgy. Meanwhile, the aforementioned malicious redirects will continue to happen because no-one is going to register their spam pages for the filters, and these things get created at a far faster pace than reporting and filter updates can ever hope to keep up with.

I'll just leave this alone, because for some reason you are way too wrapped up in hostility about the subject, twisting what I say on some points, ignoring other things I say, and angry because I teach my kids that porn is not a good thing and why I think it is. By all means, indulge yourself in watching the stuff, I'm not trying to prevent you and stand beside you against any net censorship.

Seriously though, my issues are not to do with porn, but with government censorship. I honestly thought that England was past that element of Thatcherism. Porn just happens to be the easy target that puts you on a dangerous path to sharia law / 1984 type stuff.

I did, and I found this on a bodybuilding forum:
I am not disappointed.

Britain has always had pretty serious issues with censorship from the threads that have come up on it since I got active in OT. I'm honestly surprised this didn't happen sooner.

On topic, I pity you english fellows. They may take away my guns and my privacy but they will never take my porn.
GG put forward the point that if he had a house with internet and said 'no porn here' it would be as he quoted 'his house, his rules.'
Normally the idea that someone should control what goes on in their own homes would be respected, its polite and logical to do so.
However as GG put forward his opinion - and this was all hypothetical - that if this legislation was in his areas, he might choose not to 'Opt In' and thus internet porn could be made unavailable from his home due to his religious beliefs.
All of a sudden he was not qualified to make such a moral judgement about events in his own house, and was trolled for them in following posts.
The jeering critics might have had a point if GG made demands about having no porn access in anyone elses house, but he wasn't saying that.
The OP also mentions a freely available opt in, so the intention is that each household can make up its own mind.
My house, my rules.
Works both ways.
GG and anyone else is entirely free to ban almost anything they want in their own homes for whatever reasons they want. However, enforcing that on everyone regardless of their beliefs or objections or otherwise is wrong. GG's posts seemed tp suggeat ot was a good thing because there is no porn or sex in the bible...
Um, ever heard of Song of Songs > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_of_Songs While it's written in very flowery poetic language, it involves some pretty obvious references to oral sex.

Personally i find that this is a very stupid and ignorant form of legislation. The goverment seems to believe that we cannot make decisions for ourselves and as thus should be baned from everything it deems "innapropiate".
As for that speech our grand overlord made? "Im not scaremongering BUT THE CHILDRENS"!!!!!!!! followed most likely by a huge "ZOMG"!!! from the audience and frantic struggles to get porn banned.
I cannot see what the problem with porn is but i can see what the problem with this ban is. I live with my mum whom is entirely against "that internet filth" as she calls it. How the hell am i going to get hold of my favourite fap material when she decides whether to opt in? Unless i can get there first that is. Also i happen to like things like bondage. If this is banned i will be almost certainly even angrier at Cameron than i currently am.
I used to keep my porn externally-IE i had my stuff saved to my favourites in my little used internet explorer. (i only use chrome according to my family ). Currently however i am frantically getting as much as i can onto my harddrive, memory sticks, etc..... I dont want too-as it could be discovered by my little brother when he does his homework(my mum insists he use my computer) even though i have buried it deep.
The Daily Mail and Daily Express can be hard to avoid online, especially if you follow shortened links from Twitter. So we made Kitten Block - a browser plugin that redirects any visits to these websites to a calming picture of kittens.
Helpfully blocks the Daily Mail and Daily Express websites and shows you a picture of a cute kitten or a nice cup of tea.

Oh, dear. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you - stage 1 of the Internet's retaliation - the hacking of an anti-net-neutrality MP's website. No doubt there'll be more to come... but for now enjoy this wonderful insight into how technically inept our legislators are.
...on Tuesday it was reported by Staines's blog that the MP's site had been breached and defaced with pornographic images.
The MP tweeted: "That well known responsible campaigner @guidofawkes has been hosting a link that distributed porn via my website."
The blogger responded to say the site did not link to the images in its story - but instead showed a screen-grab of a non-pornographic segment of the hacked page.
"Confused by technology again @claire4devizes?" Staines said.
"We deliberately didn't link to your filthy website - we just took a SFW [safe for work] screenshot."
