Yeah, definitely going to join.

Is there anything that says the models must be physical?

Huh, finally got my diorama done, and the t-shirts are going quicker than anticipated. If I can come up with a quick enough project I may toss my hat in as well. I'll let you guys know.

Looking very nice! Lots of rivity goodness!

As for my entry I've managed to get a little more done by adding some railing sections.
I still have a lot to do so not sure if I'll get it finished but will do my best .

Epic work... even without the paint on this is looking very atmospheric!

Added here from Biffs' other thread

"Take cover!" the sgt yelled as the patrol he lead ran into opposition fire-power, several took position behind a wall from an old building, rather what was left of it, mixed with some metal trash and spikes, as long as it stopped the enemy rifle fire hitting them, who cared what it looked like? solid cover was always welcomed by a guardsman caught in a fire-fight like this.

"Your mumblings are awakening the sleeping Dragon, be wary when meddling the affairs of Dragons, for thou art tasty and go good with either ketchup or chocolate. "
Dragons fear nothing, if it acts up, we breath magic fire that turns them into marshmallow peeps. We leaguers only cry rivets!

Anvil - Sorry, missed your post earlier. I'm looking for physical models rather than digital renders if that's what you're asking.
A hologrammatic fence that was projected from a base plate would be more than acceptable though - and if you can build one in three weeks then you have more than talent my friend

I may attempt that. Clear plastic and ink washes can work wonders, you know.

Though I'm disappointed by the disallowing of renders- considering I'm in line for a 3d printer next month. Eh. Doesn't mean I can't design on the computer!

I like the sound of the clear plastic holo fence idea, that would be so cool if one could pull it off right...

I still like the idea of the invisible laser fence, set up two fence posts on the field with 'warning laser fence' clearly labeled on them. Dare eachother to cross Of course whatever does is instantly vaporized but still.

Without substance though, doesn't really do much for the competition

I can understand your disappointment Anvildude, my reasoning was twofold. Firstly my goal when setting the theme of this comp was to encourge the expansion of people's actual terrain collection, and secondly I personally would struggle to score a render against my judging criteria.
Do look forward to seeing what you accomplish with your printer though, the future's looking real interesting for modellers at the moment.

Grim - that would work well as a dio though

That looks nice

What did you do for the glowing bars/lasers? Is it some neon material or did you do some fancy brushwork to get the glow?

Ahh OK I see some of the glow now on the base. That's pretty awesome I think being able to get it wired up like that is at least as impressive as doing a good paint job, this is a neat piece

Not that hard, only a little stubbornness patience and some stubbornness steady hand, nothing too different from the rest of the hobby .

Housing the wiring did require two-piece columns, which made the building a bit more complicated, but that's all:

(Pics from a previous design iteration, but the principle applies)

Reinforcing the structure to bear the tension needed to hold the wires tight (enough to look close to straight) was actually the hardest part, thus the metal struts on it.

Thanks I may have to look into that sometime. Could make some neat faux-neon signs with that stuff if it's flexible.

Officially withdrawing as I went out and made a 17 inch wall on a small mountain fortess, and got super far on it before realizing that it was a not only going to take more time then I have left but, it wasn't two parts violating the rules. That and I am now out of country.

Sorry all. Had a blast though and I will post pictures of it somewhere. Better luck on the next one, I hope I will be participating in it too. However, I should thank you all as it is probably going to be the best terrain piece I have ever finished. (When it eventually is.)

Good luck everyone! Excited to see the results.
