Not really when i could just wait 1 year for the new models meanwhile use my old scourges that have never seen a board before.

You could, but then you'd have new models that look like birdmen with bird helmets and bird boots, when you could have scourges with bat wings instead.

So basically his would be superior.

Well if you'd take a brief moment to read the thread, you'd discover a great many who dislike it, myself included.
A list of what I dislike about the model:

Don't like the flesh mask. It looks awful and the concept is ridiculous.
Don't like the cheesy facial expression. (Casual/impassive would have been much more creepy and true to the character of one who spends their life torturing.)
Don't like the floating. It's a superfluous concept which does nothing but add an extra element of 'wtf?'
Don't like the extra arms and spines. I think the whole 'leftover body parts' concept is stupid and makes for an ugly model... And I don't mean ugly in the cool, evil way.

To me it looks like the sculptor tried to break away from the hideous old DE models, but after failing so many times, he just gave up and said "Fine, Urien is gonna have to have a terrible model because I'm tired of trying to get him right."
So far, it's the only DE model that I'm disappointed in... But I'm VERY disappointed in it.

You can't spell 'slaughter' without 'laughter'.

Jeez. Lots of criticism for a model that doesn't really deserve it, in my opinion.

What I don't get is why you think all of these concepts are so ridiculous. You play 40k, right?

Regardless floating over a pile of worms is kinda weird. Everything else covers mad scientist/gross sicko pretty well.

Yeah, I don't really get the worms. Hopefully when I read the fluff it makes more sense, lol...

You don't think 40K has enough concepts that you can like most and still make a LONG list of ones to hate?

I'd have to say it does.

Love the Lord-of-the-Frank-Herbert's-Dune-Rings style, hate John Blanche artwork.

Love the new Dark Eldar Plastics and many of the metals, hate ridiculous floating models.

Actually, is there a single, floating model that looks good? Not just good enough, but really awesome.

C'Tan, Blood Angels Axe Guy, Urien, all those silly Wood Elf mages.... They all look kind of off.

PLEASE NOTE:

Standing on stuff = Okay.

Using parchment, rocks, worms, tassles, or swirly magic to make it look like you're flying = Not so much.

Have you looked at the concept pics they have up for Urien.
The model is damn close to that art.
So apparently you don't like Jes' concept.
I think you have to leave the sculptor out, he did what he was told.

Personally, I like it. The similarity to Bile is mentioned on the Concept Art pic. Kinda neat.
The fleshmask is executed well. The hump is suitably creepy.
The worms are the only thing I find off, and again, those were specified on the CA.
Easy enough to remove them and do something else.

Bam, said the lady!

The floatyness is a bit odd alrgiht, it makes them more targetable as well.

He doesn't float though, as that would imply being suspended in the air.

He moves THOUGH the air, the air doesn't move around him! ;P

For the most part I'm liking the models so far, particularly the new arcjhon model (lets face it its an enormous improvement on the old one!). However I have to admit one or two had to grow on me first (probably because of the massive changes made to soem of them e.g reavers). I especially like the lelith model too. However am I the only one that has doubts as to how stable the model would be standing on a surface that isnt completely flat?

I think aswell that the new models would still fit in nicely with some of the old ones. For instance I have an old raider which would really standout when next to the new models. I think it would show out more as antique (but by no means less deadly). So effectively its older vehicle designs will look like pieces of art (something which DE's seem to value as seen in the case with astrubaels dais).

Also in regards to uriens new model, Im not certain its worms. They look more like tentacles to me? I dunno. I like it though as it seems to show off his madness rather well. I think the whole idea of having weird worms/tentacles was to show the strangeness of madness itself?

Not a bad start at all! :-)

I'm not buying much, but what I do buy will be used as the eilte versions of things. So new Warriors and Wyches for example will be their elite counter-parts. And have them riding round in fancy new Raiders.

Sets a difference between the elite, and the bog standard. And makes it more obvious which models are which on the table. =p

I love pretty much all the new models. I've been waiting ages for a DE update. The Urien model isn't my favourite, but then I do prefer the sleek, mysterious DE (the new warriors, Archons, Mandrakes) to the frothing at the mouth crazies, so I'm biased.

But back to Urien. I do understand what they were trying to do with him, but I feel it didn't work very well. Still, it's a good model and better than a few I could mention. Meh, it might grow on me.

I've been thinking this as well. It's hard to just say bye and toss out 3k pts of models just because they're old. Fortunately I see little converting I will need to do. Two Wyches with blasters, are the only models that come to mind.

Just got through reading the Dark Eldar Codex, and once again GW have put in moldes that don't exist, no surprise. But impress with the remake of the Dark Eldar and that they have 4 more new heavies that can do alot of damage. And by the way can you say Supersonic speed

I hate when they do that. I'm not sure how they justify it either. If people don't end up using a unit w/out a model they could claim it wouldn't have sold well anyway.

But that's a self fufilling prophecy since most wouldn't field it because it has no model.

The Urien model just looks busy with cliche imo.

HAHAHA! Those retards... My theory on what happened: DE started outselling SMs with the pre-orders, so GW had a panic attack and is now frantically pushing SMs... Even though there's nothing new to show.

Check out the thread about it here on dakka. It's NOT a kids movie. It just doesn't look that great either.
