Y'know I'm still waiting for GW to clarify their situation with FW lately. Nowadays every army that they post for 40k done in house has FW models in it, and now in IA apocalypse volume 2 there is a specific notation for which models are intended for 40k and which are for apocalypse.
These issues have led most tournament holders in the Fayetteville / Raleigh area of North Carolina to feel that now a tourny must specificaly state whether or not forge world products are permitted.
I would love for GW to simply come out and say that unless otherwise stated, forge world products are fully legal. It seems atleast that's the direction that they're going.
Honestly I don't think I know any players who'd refuse to allow non apoc forgeworld units in a regular game in my area. Except for when the community is gearing up for a major tourny that is.
Back to the show pieces. Still really ugh over the new termies, they just don't look right to me, in either anatomy (and yeah even for how bad GW usually is) or in style. I still want my Cataphracts or other pre heresy terminator armor. The thunder hammer looks like a long handled mallet, can't quite get a good look at the shield, but then again it's pretty hard to do a shield wrong. Lightning claws look like the old 3rd ed metal terminator LC.
I don't even play fantasy and I want a colossal squig.
Love the fact that they confirmed that the single engine is the mk 4 jump pack though deep down I still enjoy the current one. Poses for the mk 4 assault marines are kinda meh.
Mk 3 and 4 apothecaries are awesome, can't wait to place my order.
Storm Eagle is awesome, though I'd say a tad bit overpriced compared to stormraven points wise. Also would rather a full resin kit not a mix & match.
Land raider spartan is a wierd place for me, the more classic designs are starting to grow on me but I'd rather stick with the mk 2 b land raider. Also I really want FW to redo the up armored land raider kit, the one's they're shipping now need new molds, really don't fit well.
Dissapointed that chaos was pushed back a volume, happy that necrons are finally getting some love (and I don't even play either).
New IG flier looks like a combo of some wierd WW2 german designs and a Corsair. I never liked most german designs from that era. Just an aesthetic thing though, nicely done still.
Nice to hear that there will be more zone mortalis terrain, though I still think that it's overpriced for what it is and how big each piece is. and I meah overpriced even for forgeworld.
All in all, happy, sad, wondering where's my pre heresy terminators and WHERE ARE MY ORKS?! IA 8 was originally supposed to be the first of a two part set, we only got half the ork clans in IA 8, where's my blood axes?
I agree with some here, I would love to see a slightly more elaborate mk 8 armor set as well.

Let's have a more general look at Forge World Open Day:
1.) No charge ( AFAIK)
2.) Lots of new stuff and announcements.
3.) Designers freely talking about current and future projects, some more than half a year in advance.
4.) Nice diorama.
5.) You could buy FW (and old GW) stuff (some people like standing in queues )
6.) Haven't found a negative comment on the event yet (other than some things were sold out too fast).
Now compare that to a GW Games Day
Thanks to Forge World for staying in touch with what gamers want!

Kroothawk... its good to know the old spirit of GW still lives on somewhere. FW!!!
I don't see the difference between the two sets of rules beyond the IG and SM crews. I agree though that the rules do represent the rapier with laser destroyer well.
Also two points...
1) Anyone else notice that they wrote it "Rapier Carrier with Laser Destroyer" as oposed to "Rapier Laser Destroyer"... I don't know about you but that seems like implication that they're atleast thinking about other weapons to mount on the rapier.
2) How can anyone hate the Spartan? Besides the opportunity to graffiti "This IS SPARTA-N!" on the tank... its a land raider with TWO Laser Destroyers on it... Deathwing armies I think will be very interested in a fluffy way to deal with swarms,

From my recollection in 2nd edition rules were:
Range - 0"-60"
Strength 9
Save Mod -6
Damage 2D10
Armour Penetration d6+2d10+9
Mounted on an armoured carriage that was operated by two crewmen or one servitor that moved a max of 4" a turn. Single shot only with no sustained fire.
I think the new rules are on par though FW seem to have two different rules for the Rapier - which one is correct? The IG rules are superior to the SM rules.
sorta, but it was actually:
short range 0-18 long range 18 - 72 to hit short +1 strength 9 damage 2D10 save modifier -6

No, I got it. I'm chuffed with FW - they are the veteran side "Porsche" compared to the more mass market "Ford Mondeo" GW main. I've bought lots of 40K/ BFG/AI/Epic FW recently and plan to buy more. Consequently, the only stuff I seem to buy from GW main is more SG stuff and the occasional rulebook (though occasional means once every few years).

I look forward to the next Land Raider variant which has twin-linked Thunderfire Cannon sponsons and has a hull mounted Reaver Titan.
Those Fat Boy pattern terminators are not improved with alternate weapons, with the exception of the lightning claw one, which looks nearly acceptable. The Mk4 assault marines or whatever look very uninspired, just more of the same old, same old.
I'd buy the Space shark if they released it.
I can't wait to buy that Avenger, even though I'm pretty sure it's a fairly large and hence very expensive model.
I kind of wish I hadn't read about IA12 being Necrons. Not because I'm not excited about it (I am) but it's sort of like someone saying hey, Christmas is moved up this year, and you ask oh yeah, to when? And they're like, can't tell you. But probably soon.
The anticipation is palpable, I guess is what I'm saying. I'm palping it as we speak.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, I really wish they'd release a Jes Goodwin art book, looking at that Mk 8 reference image.

They did one back in 2001 called "The Gothic and the Eldritch" it goes for $200 on Amazon. I got one 2-3 years ago for about $50. It had little bits on the different power armor and Chaos legions.

LOL
Forge World strike me as how GW used to be before the accountants took over - creating models & rules for gamers / collectors / painters rather than rule sets to sell the latest underpointed oober powered unit in the latest AB / codex that was released.
Ok, not everyone can afford FW (or like me, could do the models justice in painting their hearts desire titan / greater daemon), but that holds true to most (if not all) past time pursuits.

Anyways, back on topic....
On both the Guard and Astartes pages, they start off by calling it a "Rapier Armoured Carrier" and then they go on to detail the Laser Destroyer, so it might just be a simple explanation there. I would not be surprised to see alternate weapons though.

While it looks like FW has a lot of stuff coming out in the upcoming months, it looks like the overwhelming bulk of it is loyalist marine stuff that just doesn't do anything for me. The Storm Eagle is particularly irritiating, it's a Storm Raven in all but name from the looks of it and just screams "bandwagon hop", it makes the thunderhawk pointless and the game never needed SM's with lots fast skimmer assault gunships in the first place, especially not widespread availabilty of them.

I'd love to see some of that Tzeentch and DE stuff though, but above all the AdMech stuff is incredibly tantalizing, really looking forward to seeing some of that stuff. Imagining a Skitaari list and Knights would be an amazing addition to the 40k universe.

The Storm Eagle seems like FW's attempt to cater to the same group of people a number of other aftermarket Storm Raven add-on kits did... the people who didn't like how the Storm Raven turned out.
They're primarily producing neat add-ons for armies and center pieces for armies. So of the 50+ items they release each year is there one or two I'd consider buying?-Yes, which beats GW's 100+ items and me wanting none.
