The Basileans have some of the best background in the rule book. Now it looks like they'll have some of the best models in the game, too.

Well done, Mantic.

I don't suppose you'd want to make an Asian history-inspired army out of say Romance of the Three Kingdoms?

They look very nice - I just hope there's was a bit more there.

4 heads to cover 2 different units? That's awfully skimpy.

Everything is looking really nice.

I'm looking forward to trading a great deal of my bonus pledge minis to bulk up the factions I'm focusing on.

I wonder if it would work better if we used a communal thread for it once they ship everything as I can't be the only one planning on doing some serious trading with the amount of stuff on the way.

There's a thread set up on Mantic's forum for the purpose. http://forum.manticblog.com/showthread.php?3102-Kings-of-war-Kickstarter-swap-shop

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

Cool, I am likely to use that as I definitely will have a bunch of stuff I won't use. Would rather swap it for things I can.

They also added the concept art for the Stormwind cavalry riders, which I believe is the high elf cavalry.

I am so happy with how the Basileans are turning out. I can't wait to put together that army and my Dwarves and see if I can convince people to play KoW around here since there's not much WHFB going on.

Again - Sisters look great - but so few components.

Only 2 bodies - with 0 poseability (why no seperate torsos!) And 5 heads. (I'm getting 40 of these gals)

Plus Mantic still refuses to sculpt an actual banner ...

I just hope there are a few extra components that aren't done yet.

Well mantic isnt exactly renown for posability. Its how they make their minis. Even their zombies are somewhat limited

IMO, when you're dealing with things that have to be in Rank/File formation, its better to have mono-pose models.

Which would be fine, if they had more variety. But having low variety and low poseablitiy - leaves very little room outside of converting to distinguish anything from one another. I don't need 90 bits in the box like GW does, but there has to be a happy medium between 90 and 14. Like say 23?

I wonder if there's an answer to life, the universe, everything, and how many bits should come in a box of models.

I know these 'Basillians' aren't meant to be Bretonnians. If they were, GW would have already filed a C&D on them.

Which doesn't change the fact that I'll be using them as Bretonnians.

I wonder if they will have a "Phase 2 Pledge Manager" just like they did for Dreadball. I especially wonder if they'll announce it just after they release sprue pics for the basic soldiers.

Then, I wonder how much extra I'd spend.

I was wondering about that as well, but given the insane prices from the KoW KS, I don't think we're likely to see it again...

New Kickstarter update from Kings of War with a video of the 3D sculpts for the new Basilean / Human Man at Arms models. Spear/Shield wielding troops, basically.

"Mantic" wrote:We’ve increased our sculpting resource dramatically whilst putting together the 22 new units for Kings of War and one of the things we’ve started using is 3D Sculpting. The Men-At-Arms will be the first Hard Plastic sprue we’ve done using the technology and today we’ve got a special video showing you how the sculpts are progressing!

Note that these are not finished – the chests are too narrow and the heads slightly too small at the moment, so these will be getting amended. For now though, we thought you’d enjoy seeing the progress >

For this unit we used a master green from Remy Tremblay that was then scanned into a computer and reposed.

Leave us your thoughts in the comments!

Runnin up on ya.

nice

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Awesome They seem to have learned from their mistake with the goblin casting so in all likelyhood, this is going to be a great kit!

These guys just blow the GW Empire spearmen out of the water as far as looks go. I'm really looking forward to my units of these guys.

From pausing it at the front view they look pretty neat. Like the proportions as well, and no doubt they will be cheap as chips.

Design wise, not my cup of tea, but technically, these are great!

The KS did what a KS should do, provided the resources to make and improve their product. They have come a long way from their first elf plastics.

Are they going to redo their plastic elves? I wish they would considering the level of stuff they are now producing. I really want to get into this game, but I am waiting to see what they are planning on releasing.

One of the usual 'they look much better in your hand' comments, but I think the Elves really do - the online photos don't really flatter them, but they are quite neat little models.

A couple of minis in the range (the dragon riders) have unfortunately become the poster boys for them, and given them a bad name.

They're not going to redo the plastic elves.

Probably best to forget about them and move on if they're not your thing, they're ancient 2009 sculpts that apparently never made back their tooling costs and are going to be left alone for a while while still being supported with new releases (plastic stormwind cav etc.) for those who do like them (there's quite a few people who do).

The human army is going to be awesome, I've been waiting so long for a good fantasy human range after GW turned their entire Empire range into overpriced skull-infested turds back in 7th edition.

These are definitely it, love the designs, love the background of them being part of a solar cult.

They look really "fantasy" in design rather than pseudo-historical, which is awesome.

More like something out of Game of Thrones, House Arryn troops maybe, considering the winged design on the shields?

They'll come with sword and spear options. Possibly crossbows, too.

I am totally loving those designs. I'm glad they are going to make the torsos a little bigger, too, because I think it will help make them look even less like not-Perry sculpts.

If there's one thing I feel the lack of, it's more eagle. It saddens me to think of them missing out.

Some news for KS backers, talks a bit about KoW's near future in general though:

http://www.manticblog.com/?p=7345

A word on prices...

This June sees the new sets ship to our backers, and then the range will roll out to retailers’ and on to the gaming tables around the world. We will be presenting the range as the figures and kits for Kings of War. However, we expect many sets will get picked up for other gaming systems – both RPGs and Wargames. The funding has allowed us to release these kits at fantastic prices – so while the kickstarters benefited, we can also release these sets into the trade market at very keen prices. For example a pack of three trolls will be retailing for just £14.99 $24.99 – and they are going to look something like this…

Wow, if they can keep this quality up, I will be all for Mantic! These trolls look great and that price is amazing! What I am so digging, is the fact that the kickstarter was so successful, that they pass that down to us poor saps who didn't/couldn't back the project! That speaks volumes to me as a consumer. If only other companies would be so generous...
