Those dirt bikes. A million IG players got excited and then crushed by the realisation that they can now easily build bine rough riders...but they're index only. GW giveth, GW taketh.
Calgar's tactical rock is a bit naff and overall the pose on the older model is more regal and imposing, IMO.
The CSM guy is oksy, but two-handed spear charge would've looked REALLY cool.

I hope so. I like my Pedro Kantor, but a nice new plastic version would be great. And really, I do love the Mk X armor, so basically a straight update of Pedro in Mk X instead of Mk VII would be fine by me.
To be fair they did have Marneus mention something called "the Rubicon Primaris", so I reckon there's a good chance we'll see those turned into Primaris in the future.

Index only, and armed with completely different weapons that would ( IMO) look kind of silly on them. You'd have to create a new unit of shooting bikers to pair with the current melee unit, but of course that would make too much sense for GW.

Wait, why exactly should this GSC release be made to give the Imperial Guard more model options?

Because it's a unit IG players have wanted for a long time, and it would be fairly easy to include some extra parts (heads, mostly) to make it a dual IG/ GSC kit.

"What if we glue some Warlord bits on a Reaver?"
Sadly it's actually not a bad idea, doing a slightly heavier Reaver with a more significant carapace weapon, it just should have stuck closer to the Reaver design instead of using that awkward and way too small head and the giant shoulder bits with the eagles.

Primaris über fans and naysayers should be calm and chill out, this still doesn't herald the end of normal marines. Remember GW has stated new standard marines are still being created, plus there are regular marines all over the vigils video and in the artwork.
The 'Rubicon Primaris' upgrade thing cal gar has gone through may be a highly specialised process that can't be applied universally, more info is require before nay pronouncements are made!

The art for the new space marine book/mini-codex has a female character. The hope is that it's a primaris marine so the world can burn. The more likely explanation is that it's an inquisitor or similar who is a major character in the book.

Of course it does. Ignore the fluff, GW will write and change whatever fluff they want to justify their new releases. From a business point of view this going from releasing supplementary units with primaris kits to now creating a direct replacement for an iconic character. The old marines may stay in production (as long as sales stay strong, which is unlikely), but this is a very strong message that they are being replaced as the focus of the army and will likely end up like the various index units that are technically still supported but not really something you're supposed to use.

To be fair, they haven't even hinted at a non-primaris space marine release since Dark Vengeance, so it's not an unreasonable conclusion to draw. Really, until we see another old marine release it's safer to err on the side of primaris only from now on.

Again. Listen to what he says and the context- They're talking about his deeds "Willingly, I stepped across the threshold of death and into the Rubicon Primaris." to me, that's simply the Ultramarine name for the rift. They have a Roman theme going on. Different factions have different names for the rift remember.
I'm prepared to be wrong on this, but that's what it seems like to me.

More marines? More smurfs of all things?
I think GW have somewhat missed the mark on this release, personally.
Its not like marines are starved for new models. At least CSM get an update (and i think their models are the winners here) but I had the impression those players wanted new tactical equivalents as much anything?
Its nice GSC got a token mention but with the focus on Sisters for the foreseeable its clear that older ranges such as aspect warriors, Boys and the like are going to go without for a few more years yet.
More of the same and boring are my thoughts.

Marines get one new model, and it's at the same time as four other factions (five if you count the titan).

Sisters models aren't likely to be released until this time NEXT year. This is just the codex. They haven't even shown the model that was supposed to be ready for Chapter Approved yet and even the previews have been updated versions of heads and weapons they already have.
There's like a solid 8 months where they could do all that other stuff.

It would be pretty stupid to expect Orks again after the massive release we've just enjoyed.
Its boring. I'm sick of Smurfs vs CSM. They could've done all manner of interesting story points with Vigilus but unfortunately they have fell back on the standard they all know and love. Its a waste IMO.
Marines have been getting new models every few months since 8th released. No one was crying out for a new Calgar model. I'd be less bored if it was another chapter at least. Aren't many BA and DA character sculpts still from 2nd or 3rd ed?

We have seen old marine releases since primaris came out, series 1&2 of the space marine heroes. Not to mention several FW things. Or do those not count 'cause reasons'

Yea they could but given the resource is clearly pointed at Sisters at the moment, the fact that they have outright admitted to have not started looking at new aspect warriors and the seeming inability to take half of the model creation team away from Marines of one flavour or another I wouldn't count on it.
This is it for Vigilus weekend news. There won't be another major reveal here.
