So, the local GW is having a league, and it's a 1250 point locked list (ie, you never change your list for the duration of the league).

Here's what I'm rolling with:

Epidemius
Great Unclean One with Cloud of Flies

1 Squad of 7 with Icon and musician (I had 5 points to waste)

1 Squad of 6 with musician (ditto) who rolls with epidemius for a total of 7

3 x 7 nurglings

2 Daemon Princes with iron skin, mark of nurgle, daemonic gaze, daemonic flight, noxious touch, cloud of flies

The basic idea is that wave one features both squads of Plague Bearers, Epidemius and the princes. Epi and his squad hide/objective squat, the icon squad drops danger close to set up the nurglings/GUO for success, and the princes do their damnedest to up the kill count before they get wiped. Gaze was chosen over breath of chaos as is didn't require a closer deep strike to be effective.

Once the kill count mounts, the nurglings should be in on the board to benefit from the Tally. Even at WS2, nurglings get 3 attacks, 4 on the charge and wound on a 2+(with a reroll if you're t3 or lower) with no armor saves (assuming the Tally is at 20).

I've face necrons and daemons so far, and my results have been decisive wins on both counts. My daemon opponent was suprised that all I charged his Bloodthirster with was nurglings. He was even more suprised when I did eight wounds and killed his 'thister in one round.

Go Papa Nurgle!

I wonder how I could combat this with my Nurgle CSM...

I'm just concerned if you get stuck with your second wave a smart opponent will see the potency of Nurgles and drop a couple Battlecannons on them, and also that you won't get the kill count up fast enough. I suppose that is the risk though.

As for your nurgle CSM, that's fairly easy. Keep Epidemius alive. The advantages fair outweighed the drawbacks for a Nurgle CSM force, or at least it did the one mirror match I played.

RE: getting the wrong first wave: That is a risk, and indeed, I did get the wrong wave in the game against the necrons. I played conservatively with my nurglings, and dropped the GUO as close to his lines as was comfortable. Despite being the only real target the necrons had for three turns, he survived the game (with only one wound, mind you...). T6 W5, 4++, and FNP are well worth it.

Once he got stuck in, he easily rolled the necron line...
