South Africa!!!

Hello who ever reads this. I'm interested in getting the Black Reach box set for the models ect. But I was just wondering whether they are the same as the standard models that we get for our army's?

Any help will be praised by the Emperor

"In the name of the Emperor CHARGE!!!!"

Id rather have a rail-gun than a lazcannon!!!

A trooper is drilled in combat and his duties to the Imperium: he is stout of heart and eager to enforce the Emperor's law.

If anyone lives in Cape Town South Africa...get in touch and we can have a game!!!!

They are fewer pieces and so less that you can do with their positioning ect. But would not be a problem if you are using the models to fill out existing squads.

Yeah, you get a non-negotiable-
*10 man Tactical squad of SM (Flamer, missile launcher, sarge w/boltpistol & chainsword)
*5 terminator squad w/ storm bolters, powerfists and sarge with power weapon
*dreadnought with multimelta & ccw
*Commander with bolter and relic blade (or power weapon, i can't tell)

orks get
20 slugga boys w/ 2 big shootas
5 nobs with shootas and choppas
3 deffcoptas with TL rokkits
1 warboss with powerclaw and shoota

Ork players, please correct me if I am wrong.

No Foxphoenix your exactly right about the Ork contents in AOBR.
The boyz are fine for rank and file troops, the deffkopptaz are ok and everything else makes good conversion fodder.

The AoBR models are pretty good. I want a second dreadnaught so I might buy another set as the dread is about £25 and AoBR is £40 so it's definately worth it for filling out the army as mentioned earlier.

The AOBR Boyz are not hard to convert to shootas if thats what you want. The Nobs and Boss are nice to convert to. I recomend getting the new nob kit with AOBR and make the barebones nobs better plus 5 more nobs! I haven't tried messing with the SM at all. All in all its a great value to fill squads and add to your force.

If you want to buy just one of the armies from black reach, www.thewarstore.com's www.bwbits.com section has the separate units.

Just a word of warning I was slightly disappointed at the lack of movement in the choppa arms on the slugga boyz, they all seem to be placed so the model is 'flatter' (maybe this was a sprue design issue? I remember reading in WD about how the sprue design was a pain so they could fit loads in the box) But other than that black read has some really good minis in it

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I really like the Black Reach orks, while the pose is fixed the quality is very good so you gain more than you lose.

The answer to increasing variety is to match up all the bodies arms and heads and spread the combos around so that no two orks are the same, also if you cut some choppa arms, some at the wrist others at the shoulder and reposition them you recover just about all the variety you lost with the fixed pose kits, shootaboyz excepting of course.

Because of those simple changes my sluggas are indestinguishable fromm the multi part kits.

Also if you intend to buy boxset orks and have a mix of slugga and shoota units it will pay for you to mix the orks. Each boxset ork has both seperate shoota arms and slugga arm options. Use those arms for variety. Keep 'half' - according to the ratio between black reach and boxset orks you have - of the black reach models as above and cut both arms off the other 'half'. Then make up half of the boxset orks as sluggas 'half' as shootas, and take the other 'half' of the shoota arms and arm the black reach orks. You will end up with asc much variety as if you never had black reach orks at all.

Also the black reach nobz are perfect to make nobz for your boyz mobz, you can bypas bying a nobz box by bits mail ordering klaws for them and converting.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

The marines are a bit static, the riflemen all the same pose, gun at the stomach, head looking forward, but better than the Battle of Maccrage, and A LOT better than 2nd edition, but they're passable.

Some people complained they have the tactical arrow on the shoulders so swapping them into a dev squad for example is hard.

No chapter marking IIRC.

I just wish the tac arrow arm came separately so I could get more of them from bits sellers.

An upside:
The simplified models are SUPER easy to put together. You can put the entire set together in 3 or so hours (if you file down mold lines, less if you don't)

Cant really fault the AoBR boxset, amazing value and even keeping the mini's standard it is a great way to bolster an army. you even get a handy softback rulebook and templates. The hardback book and templates are nearly £40 on there own.
And if you do a swop with a friend who is collecting the army your not then twice as much useable mini's! £40 for rulebook, templates, and about 800+ points! thats not bad at all!!

Yeah its a really good value for GW
I used it to fill out my SM army from 2 years back when I got back into wargaming last month

The dread and termies make it break even IIRC

How do the Termies compare quality wise with the regular Box? I know it won't be as high, but are they decent? How about the Dread?

The AoBR set is great for the price. The dreadnaught looks good. The orks are easy to convert. I've got a few AoBR nobs that I built custom PKs on with no problems. You can also combine the terminators and nobs to make mega armor nobz fairly easily. The space marines look really good and the terminators are great as long as those are the types of terminators that you want. Once you get them put together and painted they look just as good as the $50 boxed set. They're just armed differently.

This thread is what? Two weeks old or so? That is not Necromancy. If this was like a year old thread, sure.

Hmm, is it possible with a smidge of work to put on those LC or TH/SS upgrades GW sells onto those Termies? Seems it would still be cheaper to do that than to buy a box of Assault Termies (let alone the 2-3 boxes I need). I am trading off the Orks, so those aren't a big concern for me personally. I do concur, they aren't bad. I mixed and matched them into my old Ork army with regular Boyz bitz.

That is do-able. They come with their arms detached.

AoBR is insanely cheap for what it gives you. Once I get my CSM painted up, I might buy another one to expand my Goffs and in-house SM.
