My wife and I have started playing 40k, She as SM and me as Orcs. As we are new we've been muddling through all the rules and are getting on ok but even though I have the Codex for both armies sometimes I'm not sure which weapon a model has.

For instance, some of the Lootas have massive looking machine guns and the battlewagon has one or two that I'm not sure of and the picture in the codex doesn't say what it is. In cases like this do we just do a counts as before we start the game?

Is there a list with pictures of all the Orc weapons anywhere or if not can you help me out if I post pics later? Thanks.

Ok well if you look in the codex on army list entrys you will see what they are equipted with. Now if you also go to the colourd pages with the built and painted models it should tell you what weapons they are holding.

Thanks, but as I say the picture of Lootas on page 73 shows the guns clearly but not what they are. I assume they are carrying Deffguns?

It says what all models are equipped with standard and what options they can take in your army listings. For the orks, I know there is a page 90 displays some of the weapons with some hilarious captions next to them just before the armory. SM have something like 2 pages showing how EVERY wargear they have in their codex is modelled, so you can't get confused. The unit choices, starting on page 96 for the orks, has all of the gear listed. Just read what they have equiped and what you are giving them and look in the back of the book for the corrisponding weapon.

Thanks for the replies. I've had another look in the codex. While page 90 does not show every type of weapon I have re-read the wargear for the Lootas and it does make more sense now. We were playing at 1am this morning and I was a bit tired and constantly thumbing through the rulebook so I did get a bit muddled. (Desperately tries to cover up a lack of intelligence)

Everyone was a noob at one time or another and has been confused by rules, models, weapons, or all three. Don't worry about it. At least you are making an effort to get it right, I know players that have been at it for over a year and STILL can't tell the diff between a plasma gun & a melta!

Back in RT days, lots of the weapons were the same from race to race. The Ork Bolta guns looked different from the Marine Bolters, but they were still Bolters. The Heavy Plasma was the same for the Orks, Marines, and IG. Now it can be confusing because not only are the models slightly different from race to race, the names and stats are different from race to race, so it's quite understandable for a newcomer to be confused.

Orks have always cobbled stuff together, there's no standard to follow, you have to christen your weapons whatever your list or options allow them to carry.

And here I was thinking Jervis' much-vaunted Wargear section was supposed to help new players.

Sorry Lord Froth, I'm not making fun of you. I just find your predicament to be deliciously ironic.
