All of these sound good and well, but the rumor of a str 6 carnifex are scary.

Whaa? Where did you hear that?

I think they may introduce a couple of new ones and remove the junk that we currently have.

I'm personally thinking bioplasma that hits on 2+/3+ regardless of WS and a rending bonus if you roll a 6 to hit...that could be where the gargoyles strength will lie.

I think the rumor was actually about S7 Carnifexes, but they also had 7 attacks. I'd rather have 7 S7 attacks than 3 S10, even against vehicles.

Well Hell!!!! 7 S7 attacks with monstrous creature against vehicles is even a problem against titans(in Apocalypse), Land Raiders would be nothing for a Carnifex in CC. Who knows, Carnifex's will probably get biomorphs for an extra attack. I would complain about this because I am a SM player an that is bloody murder against me. I do look forward to seeing the new Nids recieving some up/downgrades.

Fixed that for you.

I'm really hoping there's at least 12 gaunts in each box. Orks used to get 16 boyz in a $35 box, but now you get 12 with accessories for $22 or so. I really hope they follow that idea instead of the guardsmen one.

I don't even know if this rather dodgy rumour is true or not, I certainly haven't seen any authentication. But if it is, would you really be that upset for your carnifexes? They would get massively better against anything else in the game, but would be unable to hurt one vehicle in an army that is barely competitive (and which has a sort of built-in get-out clause; if you can't hurt the monolith it isn't that hard to phase out the necrons). If that rumour were true my tyranid-owning friend would be laughing in my face every time we played.

It isn't true, because I can't think of any model in the game with base 7 attacks, and it would screw up the bio-weapon system royally, and it's just the kind of ridiculous thing that gets thrown about on the internet. Not trying to single you out or anything, but really, I was a bit astonished to see a tyranid player mourning over the possibility of such a wishlisty boost.

Ya I highly doubt there will be 7 attacks I mean that would be 7 str 9 venom cannon shots or 14 devourer shots.

But, Carnifexes are THE symbol of abso-flipping-lutely ridiculous brute strength that anyone and everyone will want to avoid. Lowering his strength would be like lowering the Railgun to S8 but giving it 3 shots. That sort of change might be mathematically better in some situations, but it destroys the character of the creature entirely.

(at least they used to be. Now they are more like a big 'tard waddling around who is only a threat because he might accidentally fall on someone.)

on second edition the carnifex had S7 and there was no problem. But... cost: 199p. and 6/4/7/8/10/6/4/10
10 wounds, I6 and 4 attacks. Not bad.

We already got the downgrades. It was called 5th edition.

Advent, why do you look forward to seeing downgrades, and why would you complain if the Carnifex got better at the job it was supposed to have in the first place? Just because it would be effective against you? Tyranids are suffering enough in this edition. Ask Broken Loose, he'll drown you in words explaining it.

Oh? So I can complain about Space marines getting nurtured even five months or so, IG having Platoons and Tank Squads and Orks getting one of the best plastic kits in the game?

Perhaps the carnifexes (carnifi?) are being downgraded because a stronger and more powerful bug will be taking their place. Such as a trygon.

Makes sense to me. Downgrade the fex, make it cheaper and give the ability to take more like 1-3 fexes a squad. Then to fill the void add in the trygon which would be tougher than what the fex was in the first place.

Just for the record, the rumor wasn't that Carnifexes had 7 base attacks, it's that they had 3 base attacks and 2 sets of scything talons that each added 2 attacks. Those of you going berserk over 7 venom cannon shots per model can now unbunch your panties. Then again, the same rumor source (which has pretty much been accepted as wholly inaccurate, for what it's worth) claimed venom cannons were assault 2x and 2+ poisoned. So...re-bunch the panties.

2+ Poisoned wouldn't change that much really. Venom Cannons are already at least S6 on Warriors, or S7 if you take Toxic Sacs, which means they already wound T4 (or T5 in case of Toxin Sacs) on a 2+. It would only matter on really high Toughness units, and they usually have an armour save that makes the Venom Cannon a less than ideal weapon to use against them.

Well, these are just rumors after all!

Anyone remember the "all Assault Cannon Land Raider Variant" rumor that was floating around for Space Wolves?

Yeah, that didn't happen either...

Oh yeah, I agree. I think that's a change they should make, actually. It's the assault 2x part that's a bit fishy.

I just read a list of rumors over on Warseer that are hilariously fake. Things like Gaunts being 2 points with WoN and a weapon and synapse conferring FnP instead of Eternal Warrior jump out as absurdly impossible. Sure, I'll let you instakill my warriors with missile launchers in exchange for an extra 4+ save on everything. That sounds fair, right?

I always feel a little guilty about synapse eternal warrior, especially when a rail cannon, or such like, bounces off a T4 warrior. A rule like FNP would make a lot more sense, but is obviously ridiculous from a balance standpoint. Maybe if it was just synapse creatures that had feel no pain it could work.

Buffs the big bugs and keeps the little buggers, and Genestealers, in line. Elegant solution, no?

Actually, that'd make a lot of sense. It wouldn't be terribly broken either since most of the stuff shooting at the big ones is AP 1 or 2. I like it.

The little buggers still act like little expendable bullet catchers and the bigger creatures get a needed survivability boost. Raveners and Warriors would end up benefiting the most from this, and the medium creatures need something to help them survive the new 5th edition assault rules anyway.

The whole point of EW synapse was that, in 3rd edition, it was entirely counterintuitive to take anything but hive tyrants for synapse. Warriors and zoanthropes didn't survive past turn 1.

We asked for T5. We got EW instead.

FNP would not do anything to solve the "just battlecannoned all your synapse creatures off the table, gg" problem.

As far as our bigger creatures getting FNP, I doubt it would make much difference in the long run. They'll still get creamed by power weapons and anti-tank weapons just like they get creamed by power weapons and anti-tank weapons right now. FNP would just help them survive against bolters and the like, which is a bit redundant when combined with the whole T6/T7 and 3+/2+ save bit.
