Since the discussion in the Avatar movie thread kinda got out of hand, I thought we could start another thread for that Discussion and cartoons and/or anime in general.
So, are there any other cartoons people here like except Avatar? I know there's a huge Anime fanbasem but what about western animation.
I really like the new Turtles show from 2003. It was darker, more serious, combinded elements from Gargoyles and Batman TAS, and yet managed to keep the same level of fun the old show had. Like X-Men Evolution, I consider this show the definite version of the characters since they don't portray them anywhere else as good as they do in this series. Granted, the show took a dive after season 4, but I still like it.

Damn, you beat me here Anung! LOL. I would have to say that since I've gotten older (but not more mature) cartoons really don't do it for me anymore,
they just seem really stupid. But I do sometimes manage to catch Chaotic. As Anung said earlier, X-Men Evolution is a good one, though they had to tone down Wolverine's badassery for the kiddies. I generally stick to anime for stronger plot lines. Full Metal Alchemist, Gungrave (awesome game, awesome show), Gundam SEED, andBleach are a few that I watch.
The gread thing about Batman: Brave and the Bold is, that it takes everything that was stupid about Batman in the 60s and makes it AWESOME!
Automatically Appended Next Post: I've been enjoying Ben 10 probably more then I should. Why it's obviosly focused on a certain demographic, I really like it. The art is and writing is very solid and it's exactly the kind of show a saturday morning cartoon should be.

I actually enjoy this cartoon alot as well. The live action movies suck though, right? That we can agree on.
all i remember about the live action movie is that the cgi was kinda......bad......at times. like they didn't take the time to get the models to properly blend in with the environment.
anime i like- makanuchi ippo, i believe its called......kid decides that instead of going to college, he'll become a pro boxer- you then get episode after episode of boxing, mixed with humor that sometimes translates oddly
Hawkeye, you are my new favorite person right now.
Gargoyles was awesome. And considering it was a Disney Afternoon cartoon, surprisingly mature and dark in plot/themes.

is it any media from japan or is it all action shows?
FTFM.
Anime is the animated medium from Japan. Manga is the comic-book equivalent.
Within the medium, there're the standard assortment of genres, but typically can be broken down in terms of the target audience.
The stuff you tend to see on Cartoon Network - ie, all the action shows, etc, like Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Gundam, etc, are geared towards an adolescent boy crowd. These are referred to as Shounen(Shonen) anime/comics.
Shows that are more girly, like Sailor Moon are Shoujo - geared toward girls.
More mature themed shows, such as Berserk and Blue Gender are Seinen.
Then there're some other ones, but these are the most typical ones you see in the States. Obnoxiously, Shounen tends to dominate so most people tend to assume that all anime is about giant robots or ninjas or alien martial-artists.
And that's your brief Anime/Manga lesson of the day!

Trigun
Fullmetal Alchemist
Darker than Black
Death Note
Cowboy Bebop
and a great many other. Evangelion is also worth picking up, most people are only expecting a sort of typical mecha plot, and it goes a lot deeper.
Gungrave = win, too. Touching, and deserved a lot more episodes, especially from when they were kids.
One piece has a lot of nonsense, but it's awesome - though I only read the mangas (same with berserk, vinland saga, soul eater, naruto and few others).
There's anime for everyone, people who like a bit more serious stuff can go for Ghost in the Shell movie (not the "remastered" crap they released, 1.1 or something) and Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade.

Who said anything about Pokemon? If anything, *that*, together with Yu-Gi-Oh and now Naruto are possibly the most "americanized" animes. The style of animation they use isn't, or shouldn't be, comparable to the rest of the anime around, except some by Gonzo.
Oh, just remembered three things; Rurouni Kenshin (aka Samurai X), Wolf's Rain and how I HATE english dubs. Nothing spoils an anime like dubs.

My favorite cartoons? Probably the best ever made and we'll never see their like again:
I'm also a fan of The Clone Wars.....yes, a rare thing I know, but I do enjoy the show.

The thing to remember about Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon are that the shows were created to coincide with the respective games. Thus, you see the incredible amount of exposure to the both series that children have. Considering that Pokemon especially is still going quite strong attests to how brilliant a market strategy Nintendo played with that series.
As much as the writing was lacking, I liked Batman Beyond. Especially the "The Return of the Joker" movie they made for it. Questionable sci-fi asides, the writing for that movie was fantastic. Still nothing compared to Batman the Animated Series, though.
Good to see the Exo-Squad love. I've had the toy of the main guy (don't remember the names at all any more) sitting at home for near a decade and a half now.
Also, how could this one not have come up yet?
