Gantz? Oh man I hated that show. Bought the first boxed set, I think 6 CDs and the majority of it was the main characters bemoaning their lives. They would be in the middle of a fight and one would just freeze up and spend 15-20 minutes crying how life was so unfair. What the heck was the villain doing this whole time? Nothing, just standing there and letting them do it.
If it gets better after the first 6 CDs, I'll never know because I refuse to waste any more money on that sobfest.
Stuff I do like. Ergo Proxy, Desert Punk, Venture Bros and Metalocalypse.
Okay so I just finished watching Gurren Lagann. I didn't realise it was gonna be the most awesome thing ever. I have a story I've been planning in my head for a while - it's like they took that, turned it into an anime, then threw in a metric crapload of mecha for good measure.

good for you! that was a pretty fun show, it really took the hotblooded mech pilot character to a whole new level.

Finished it recently too , it was way better then i expected . Might look into Diebuster next since they seem related.
I personally enjoyed Megas XLR, it took the giant robot concept from the japanese animes, removed the whiney angst plot and substituted it with bruce campbell, great show.
Back on topic. I have hear from a friend that there was an anime created about Final Fantasy. And that does not mean Advent Children or Spirits Within.

Personally:
Western Animation -
Animaniacs. God I miss that cartoon.
Wall-E
... that's really about it...
Anime:
Black Lagoon
Bleach (I admit it. I watch a mainstream anime)
Ghost in the Shell (movies + TV)
Read or Die (OVA + TV)
Rosario + Vampire
Slayers (All seasons+ movies + OVAs)
Shadow Skill
Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-ohki
Tenjou Tenge
Those Who Hunt Elves
Witch Hunter Robin
Edit: Oh, and one other, little anime...
Sometimes it's a comedy! Sometimes it's an action show! Sometimes it's a god-awful live action film! But What is the Truth?
Beautiful Warrior CUTEY HONEY! (Cue theme music.)

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, and I'm a little ashamed to be so attached to it but...
Storm Hawks. Motorbike wars in the Sky? Yes, please.
Also, pretty much any cartoon where people actually die, but not in a overly done gross/gory way. I hate it when a tank is destroyed, but you can see the entire crew jumping out just in time to escape monster/hero/ whatever.
