This didn't come from me, I found it thanks to TTGN. Looks good. The only thing that's kinda strange is just how flat it is. I get that we're dealing with a bombed out wasteland, but this set, IMO, really need to be combined with the Mighty Empire's set to be worthwhile.

Is anyone else distinctly less excited about these than they were about mighty empires?
These look so lackluster. Even the spaceport looks lame. And why no Hive city in the box itself? Has GW not read their own fluff? Oh, wait, a chance for more money! I should have known.
And is there a tile for angling the defense lines around a city? It doesn't appear so. Anyways, very lame looking. I was really hoping for something more interesting. Maybe some of the articles will more clearly illustrate the possibilities.

To be honest I have to agree - they're very flat, and not what I was expecting from 40K tiles. Not everywhere in 40K is a ruined shell of a city or craters. It's a little one-dimensional (no pun intended) to make such flat and lifeless tiles.
Still, as I said, if combined with a set of Mighty Empire the set could really shine.
warboss wrote:p.s. just out of curiousity, what pic did you cast your single gallery vote for?
As it happens I've been asked this before. Answer's the same - don't know, don't care.

With a little time and effort you could model the tiles how you want, but I was hoping for something less bland. May have to keep hold of my old card Mighty Empires set instead of upgrading it.

Lacklustre and uninspired. Far too abstract as well - clipping those tiles together you get a map, but it in no way looks anything like a "realistic" representation of a world, just a random collection of pieces that are disjointed and unconnected. At least with ME you could produce something that looked like a feasible representation.
And at £30 for the box, they are taking the pee expecting you to pay an extra £5 for 2 hive tiles... I certainly would have expted something that looked good straight out of the box. If I've got to make an effort with Greenstuff and modelling I don't need to bother with the box - I may as well draw my own map!
6 identical sprues! What a crock. That means 6 space ports. On the same planet in close proximity... And the Space Port tiles are only one sided so you can't flip them over and use them as blanks instead...
Altogether a pretty worthless POS. I would have expected better from GW.

I'm not going to buy it but looking at the tiles I think they are flat for a good reason, that is to accommodate the 12 powertations, 12 bastions,12 shieldgenerators and 12 manofactoruns... If you had something to busy and less simplistic you would struggle to add those 48 pieces.

They're cool looking and good for campaigns . . . but I have to agree that they are quite 2D, and the Hive City tiles are a bit expensive, but then I guess that's cos they don't expect to sell that many of them . . . ohwell, a good buy for a club, and that really brings the price down too, spreading it out between a bunch of people. Plus when combined with the Mighty Empires it gives you a lovely map to play your campaigns across =]

Yeah,
I was looking forward to this, but with no hive cities I'm going to pass.
It's a expensive hobby, £30 is pushing it for a plastic map. But Holding back the hivecities and charging £5 extra! That's taking the Piss!

Meh. I'll let my campaign lay waste to the pretty tiles of Mighty Empires and then replace them with the lackluster worn-torn tiles of Planetary Empires. Either way its a win for Gdub, dammit!

I will probably try to nab the rule book on eBay and just print out big hexmaps, put them on a metal back, and use magnets to denote things.
Kind of disappointing; I was really hoping for something really fun to hook up with a planet strike sort of deal.

Our local GW sprayed them and then drybrushed them with Goblin green. They look like theyre off some futuristic shuttle screen, they look great in my opinion..
Why are they flat? well how can you put the shield generators / power stations etc if the tiles are too uneven? Also they have to be placed on a wall

Well, since I have Mighty Empires, I can order just the Hive tiles. The rest can be fudged with what I have.
I think you really need to use ME with PE plus Hive Tiles to get the versatility that most would want from a campaign map.
But that's a bit of cost. I only have ME cuz the shop had it on sale for $20 at the time.
