I was just wondering if anyone had used them in Landraiders ; the ability to hopefully get rending / fleet of foot / etc.. seems decent enough when put in a Landraider and running forward with them.

2 Squads of 9 Possessed in 2 Landraiders comes to a Pricey 1000 points or so.

Never played around with possessed most people think their gak so was just wondering.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

The eye of terror.

Berzerkers come out at a similar price with a fist champion, and will almost always perform better, and are scoring to boot.

I guess if you just *have* to use possessed, then this would be an OK way to do it, but you'll be spending a lot of points on two units that very likely won't be able to make a big enough impact for the cost to be worth it.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

The land of cotton.

To summarize...

Advantages:
S5 all the time
Bonus powers
Nicely scupted models

Disadvantages:
Not scoring
Champion cannot take Powerfist
Count as only ONE CCW so no bonus for CCW/Pistol
Expensive
Powers are variable
Compete with Dreads, Chosen and Terminators for Elite slots

Given all the above it just begs the question "WTF was the Codex author thinking?" but then you remember it was Gav Thorpe.

everytime I've even touched my possessed (a whole 3 games) they died without doing anything spectacular. Sure, if you roll a 6 for their power they are pretty nice. But otherwise forget it. As an earlier poster said, Khorne are the same price, but WAY better, and get way more attacks (4 base on the charge as opposed to 3! and str 5 the turn they charge!). So leave the possessed home bro!

Also, they don't come with frag grenades, so you will be swiping last when you assault into cover!
Champion not being able to take a powerfist should be in bold. You really, really, really learn that lesson when you end up in CC with a dread. punching armour 12+ with fists, even daemonic ones, is not fun.

I've used possessed in 6-7 games, and i can just quote Zid's first sentence. The only decent usage i got out of them was with a icon of nurgle, guiding DS and guarding my lord/sorc. In a army where every unit is expensive, most people would prefer something else thats going to give them either more bang for their buck or more consistant results.

If you really, really want to use them, you just must put them into a rhino at the least. Footslogging is a waste of time/points, rhino gives them a chance to be where they need to get, but if it gets popped on the other side of the field... Landraider is the best option for them. If you want to take them instead of zerkers

Yeah so spend a gazilion points to make an under average unit a bit less average. (sarcasm)

I think that posessed are nice, they have their uses and they do look cool. They are out of place in "competitive" environments, but for friendly games, were you are trying not to go for spam or redundancy... I can see them being used.

Alright, I've waited until now to speak up. I use Possessed, and I use them well. I know their ins and outs. If you are using Possessed, you can't have a static plan and you need to be able to cater to any of their powers. Landraiders don't do this, because they can't Scout in them. Now if you are going to use Kharn in a Landraider, Possessed make better company for him because of their save. That build isn't so much about the Possessed, but minimalizing the damage of his betrayals. Outside of using Kharn, Berserkers in a Landraider will perform better.

That 26 points a model is a steep buy in. I mostly play Khorne themed.

They seem alright just expensive.
