I was reminiscing about my first LGS experience and I remember there being many interruptions for people taking smoke breaks. Is this a common occurrence or was this just a regional thing. Inquiring minds want to know, oblige them. Feel free to justify your response.

I smoke, but during a game I try to time it at a point both of us fancy a quick break, whether to have a cigarette or get a drink.

I don't smoke. It is a ridiculous and foolish habit. It annoys me if others interrupt a game to smoke.

My opponent and I toke before playing; makes the game more enjoyable. As for smoking, I'm not a big fan of fags but imo cell phone interruptions are the worst especially if the guy is leashed by a significant other.

The larger the game the more breaks there likely will be in a casual setting, use the time as you please but get youe ass back in a timely fashion!

I don't mind if somebody takes a smoke-break during a game, but it needs to be approached like at the typical place of employment. 5-10 mins and only once every 2 hours.

Smoke as much as you want, though I don't. Just don't smoke in crowded areas.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I do smoke, and I do not take break during game.

I dislike when people interrupt a game (cell phone, tlk ing to friends...) often. It ok to quickly answer a call, or to say "Hi" to a relative. But sometimes, people are pushing it...

I'm alright with it in a casual game, but in a tournament, wait until your round is over and then choke down your cancer-fumes.

The 40k crowd at my FLGS is about about 30% smokers. There is a pretty much unwritten rule that when playing one of us there will be a 5-10 minute break at the end of turn 3 to step outside and smoke. It actually allows for a few minutes to rehash strategy and talk about some of the key things that went down or blaring mistakes made in the first half.

EDIT:

Tournaments are a different story. When playing in a tournament I would only break for a smoke if the guy had to go to the bathroom or had an emergency call. Only then if we were a turn or so ahead of the other games going on at the time.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee.

North of you!

Yea i don't see how you can afford smoking and plastic krak at the same time....

But otherwise as long as it doesn't interfere with the game i dont mind; a few people at my FLGS smoke and it doesn't interrupt the game so I have no issue with it.

Forever alone

I don't smoke, unlike most of the idiots at school. If I wanted to kill myself, I'd find a good cliff.

Also, cupcakes.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Non-smoker here. 40K would be my costly, addictive habit.

The smokers at my local tourneys are pretty good about limiting it to between games. Most of us are considerate like that.

There's more to smoking than a possibly early death. I don't smoke cigs, but I love a good (or gutter brand) cigar, and if nicotine doesn't make you feel a little bit better than I envy your mental state. It's a filthy disgusting habit, but a good smoke is just terrific.

That said, I'm glad I live in Ohio, where you can't smoke anywhere but you're own home or outside.

When playing casual 40k, smoke breaks are a part of life. At a tournament, have a butt while I deploy, and then deal with your addiction until the game is done. My fat ass can't go get a pizza in the middle of a game, so deal.

Most of us all know each other, and we like to smoke while we play. Since we can't smoke in the store we play at, we'll often take breaks to go out and shoot the shi-breeze and discuss tactics with each other and how the game is going.

It's a social thing.

Oh, and about the cancer:
A) If the smoking kills me before the other cancers chasing down my family tree do I will be IMPRESSED.
B) Where else are you going to get your Vitamin N, huh!?

It depends really, if i play someone who doesent smoke then ill hold off all game, but if im playing another smoker im more than happy to take a mid game smoke break

Before anyone starts on the whole "smoking causes cancer" thing ill call that up as BS.
A friend of mine has just been told after a test that he has it, this is a healthy person who has never smoked, done drugs and never drank in his life (maybe the odd xmas or Bday drink)

Also on another note, anyone here who simply says its a dumb habit, people who smoke are fools: too fething right, more than likely it was the worsed mistake of my life and i regret it alot, as does everyone who smokes, for anyone here who is pondering the idea: dont bother, its a waste of your life.
