In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

G'day all. I just picked up 10 Raptors, and I'm thinking of giving them either a pair of flamers or melta guns, but I'm leaning closer to the meltaguns since if i do find myself amongst enemy lines, generally heavy weap. squads don't do too well against assault troops

so how do you tool up your raptors?

Do not run Raptors. With True line of sight unless the Raptors hide behind terrain or a Rhino wall they can be shot by anything which is bad.

Raptors are amazing....

I run 2 meltas or 1 plasma gun always ALWAYS with a power fist champ

Go crazy on marks you cant really go wrong 5 up inv save extra toughness extra attack etc.

I run Slaanesh, but thats just my style.

Raptors hunt squads that can't defend themselves or bolster your lines. If you take Meltaguns you'll be equiped for the former, and the more skimmed you make them the better they are for the latter. You don't want them chasing AV13+ with their Meltaguns, you use them to crack transports and assault the contents. Get whatever mark suits you, as they are benefitial. I don't like Nurgle or Tzeentch personally, but only because if they take enough fire for that to matter you've put them in the wrong place.

Agree completely with the attack transports then assault the contents point. Ultimately though it depends on your regular opponents, do you play against vehicle-heavy armies, or lots of troops? (I guess vehicles are a lot more common/dangerous nowadays) You could always give them meltaguns and the mark of khorne, for a kind of take-anything killy squad.

2 Meltas & a fist as well here.

Raptors are the best meltagunners Chaos has. No matter what, anything within 18" can be 2D6'd and then assaulted, even if theres a wall, difficult terrain (except for assault) etc. Even Obliterators with multi meltas need to roll a 6 on movement just to tie it.

Youre essentially paying a 50 point premium to be able to move an extra 6", ontop/over buildings, over difficult terrain, etc. You dont need a rhino when moving that quickly, so it's really 15 points.

Obviously the disadvantages include the fact they can be shot at. This is why Icon of Chaos Glory is a must and should be the only mark you consider. Its cheap and prevents your boys from falling back, and falling back fast at that.

Mark of Khorne is a popular choice, but it's really not thought out. Having 10 more attacks in CC really doesnt really turn the tables on anything. You can also buy IoCG and another raptor for the same points, giving you another wound and another pistol + 3 attacks on charge. In reality youre only losing 6 attacks, but gaining a wound, 3+ save and what is essentially fearless.

Mark of Nurgle is 50 points. For the same points you might as well buy IoCG and 2 more raptors, as the 3+ saves are going to offset the T5 anyways (anything that negates 3+ is also going to negate T5), plus you get a few more attacks in CC as well.

I used to run:

10 raptors, 2 meltas, Claws on champ and IoCG in my 2000 list.

I used them as a 'thrid' daemon prince...or daemon prince escort.

I ended up replacing them with 20 lesser daemons...

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

OC FTW

The best loadout imo is 2 melta guns, fist, MoK.
The mark can be changed depending on your army but it makes the unit able to kill tanks and hordes effectively.
The mark also makes them able to safely drop in Termies and Oblits

It's also a blast to add in a MoK demon weapon Lord with jump pack in there for kicks.
