Nurgle Veteran Marine with the Flu

I am making an IG army, and I would like to know what I should get for this Christmas, I have:
1 cc squad
1 regular squad
I would like to have at least ONE superheavy this christmas, so which do you think is the best, and should I get the Battalion?

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

More guardsman squads would be good, since you can't have a legal army at the moment.
Heavy weapon squads are good to have as well. As are chimeras, if you want a mech-guard force.
The battleforce is ok I guess, except for the fact that it's in reality a platoon box (command squad and 2 normal squads).
I don't know much about the superheavies, so I can't help you there.

The Seraphs of Thunder: a homebrew, almost entirely converted successor Deathwing. And also some Orks. And whatever else I have lying around. |

I say you should flesh out your army for regular matches before you even think about ascending to apocalypse. Seeing as you only have 1 CCS and 1 infantry squad, you've got a LOT of work to do. You cant really go wrong with the battle force, but as stated its really only 1 platoon (1 Troop FOC slot). At this point you really need to figure out what you want your army to be: mech, gunline, or a happy medium of the two.

I assault with my guardsmen, why dont you?

More tanks. Really, that's all I can come up with. Ask for Griffons, and Leman Russes, and Chimeras, and Vendettas. A command squad wouldn't be too out of line either.

If you're getting a Superheavy Tank, get a Baneblade and build it as normal.
But for your army, I'd check on eBay and see what's selling cheap.

Yep, you need more of the average guardsmen out there. Right now, you're not going to get very far.
Battalion should pay for it's money worth.

Why would you need another command squad?
You should probably just get a junior officer pack. (come with two). Or...a Commissar!!! ...LORD!!!

If you're getting those three additional squads, isn't it cheaper to get a 2nd Battleforce?

Well, I have an extra squad of IG from last edition lying around, and I was going to get the extra command squad for the second platoon.

I think your making a good choice Brotheralexos, you cant go wrong with the battle force. the sentinal is a good fast attack unit too thats in the box and its only 45 points for the scout sentinal with ml which is pretty good all around.

I just wish that the Armoured sentinel wasnt so bleh. An extra twenty points for one extra armour point? rediculous.

CREED!
i made a reasonable IG force just out of 3 battleforce's, a CCS and a couple LRBT's
use each battleforce as a platoon with 2 infantry squads and a heavy weapons squad
then you'll have a squad of 3 sentinel's
and if you don't play competitively you get a reasonable 1500 point (depending on how you gear it) army very easily

Two extra armor points, a closed top, and extra armor.

at the cost of 20 points + Scouts and move through cover.
it depends entirely on what you want the sentinels to do. if you want to slow a force down in order to get more shots off at them or pop light vehicles quickly your better off saving the points and using scout sentinels, if you want durability if your fighting lots of anti armour, then armoured sentinels are your best bet

You need a battleforce to flesh out one platoon and perhaps a heavy weapons box which will put one heavy weapon in the hands of each squad if you get as many as you did in last edition. Then I'd flesh the army out with a few tanks.

I have foung that 5 ratlings for 50 points is a cheap (both in points and $) elite choice. I find it works very well, especially with the bring it down order.

look into russes, they are a force to be reckoned with no matter what your build is, and they are some of the most adaptable tanks in the game. Especial because you can buy separate turrets without another tank for increase options.

For your first super-heavy I'd recommend the Baneblade. Fun to make+paint, and easy to use.

Get another battleforce or two. Hold off on the superheavy, since you probably won't get to use it for a long time. Even if your group plays Apocalypse, it's better to have some actual troops. That way you can at least play regular 40k.
