Hey guys I am starting a chaos marines army and wanted to ask what your suggestions were for an HQ. (Upgrades, marks, etc.)

I'm looking for something that can move fairly fast with decent armour. I thought daemon Prince but I want something a little more "shooty"...

DP is the way to go. Don't look for "shooty" from your HQ slot, that's HS's job

I usually go with a chaos sorcerer with Gift of Chaos because it can tie up any unit for atleast a turn without putting the sorcerer in danger. But out of the four armies I face 1 is hoard and 2 are semi-hoard

Quoted from "The Defenestrator":
"Yes, I don't buy into the goody goody image the Tau PR machine has churned out . They're all dirty cold-blooded space-communists if you ask me! Besides, their shiny, selfless "we love everyone for the Greater Good" vibe is so unfitting for the "lulz we're all badass jerks" future of 40k. GW needs to play up their cold, calculating, "join us or die, and probably still die anyway" Borg-y style. That's just me of course."

Altanis wrote Vindicare. Hes like Santa he watches when your sleeping. He knows when your awake. I doesn't matter if youve been bad or good because the inquisition put a hit out on you and a shield breaker round is gonna go through your head when your eating your weaties.

Gift of Chaos? Over Warptime? You want your HQs to be killy, you want your sorc to WT a wound through so he can ID what he attacks.

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

Well if you want both then take a tzeentch marked sorcerer or DP with warp and wind. My HQ i typically run is basic DP with nothing on it for the reason being he is already a bullet magnet and if taken out it isnt a big deal. If he reaches their side then i use them to either take out transports or heavy hitting heavies.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

I myself use either a Tzeentch Sorceror on foot (Warptime, additional stuff to taste), a Tzeentch sorceror on disc (this one with Warptime and Wind), a flying Daemon Prince (MoT, Warptime, Wind), a Chaos Lord with PF and Combi-melta, and/or a Slaaneshi sorceror/Chaos Lord with Lash of Submision/Power Weapon. The only ones I'd reccomend from that list are the Fzorgle and the Daemon Prince.

The general rule is: Lords make a squad support them, Sorcerers support a squad, and DPs are target saturation.

If you want something fast and independant, Daemon Princes are the way to go. His is a lot more fragile than he looks, though a 3+ is still nothing to scoff at. Something else you can try are Bikers.

I ran an unmarked Chaos Lord with a Daemon weapon along with some Slaaneshi Bikers and they cleaned house. They just need to wait a couple turns so they aren't the only unit in mid-field.

I know it sounds strange, but Ahriman is an HQ killer. He is 250 points however once you get him in close combat he can cast gift of chaos 3 times. The chances get considerably better then. Especially if you are lucky and can roll 6's. I once won a game because Ahriman turned both of my opponents HQ's into spawn. Its something to consider.

Double Fzorgle princes are tons of points, but they can screw over heavy support so bad its not even funny. And not to mention their use in objective games.

Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Shooty - Definitely a Sorceror with MoT probably. Add a Disk or Wings for speed.

More Killy - Khorne Lord with DW and Wings. Very fast, very deadly. Watch him wipe whole squads off the field!

Wings, unless it's a small map. I find that getting my DP into assault with the extra move distance adds alot to his survivability.

Fzorgle was a name popularized on Dakka by Triggerbaby to describe the Lash of Torment. I can't remember where he cribbed it from, though.

Any suggestions about Marks or upgrades? I want to see what the majority of you think and why. I'm getting a lot of mixed opinions. (Although I guess that's good.)

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

Khorne lord w/ fist in a land raider with 9 bezerkers w/ fist champ is pretty gnarly. 9 powerfist attacks, 4 of them str 9, is always fun to bust out on a enemy unit

If you're not playing too serious, you can make a Tzeentch lord w/ deamon weapon or a Tzeentch sorc w/ bolt of change/doombolt in terminator armour, with a termintor bodyguard with a Tzeentch icon and a reaper. 2+/4++ is pretty damn tough against some casual lists and nets you a kinda shooty lord.

As far as marks go, on a lord, i prefer Nurgle and Khorne. It mainly affects the Daemonweapon, and the Tzeentch one is kind of a flop (fun, but a bit of a flop for points cost/potential of other equipment), and the instant death blissgiver doesn't appeal to me too much, instant deathing a character etc would be cool, but they rarely take all the Bloodfeeder hits and survive then again, if i was playing nidzilla or elfzilla, or any list with lots of MC's/scary creatures, i certainly wouldn't mind a blissgiver on my side.

As for sorcerers- Nurgles good, tough marines are always good, nurgles rot is mediocre but fun against horde armies, especially guard and if you give the sorc wings , Tzeentch works with sorcerers since you can cast 2 spells a turn- I'd call that up to personal preference. Bolt of change is strangely useful, you might find yourself suprised how often your sorc can get a side armour shot with that. Slaanesh sorc is for fzorgle, which is undeniably good. Unfortunately you have to have the worshipper of the Pole dancing god in your army. My 2 favourite uses of the lash is lashing priority target squads out of cover (since cover saves are so damn easy to get), and making it easier to get into assault.

hope this helps

-edit- There is only 1 kind of DP. Spartan Daemon prince! (Prince w/ wings/warptime)

For Daemon Princes, you usually see two builds:
MoN, Warptime, Wings
MoS, Fzorgle, Wings

I myself prefer MoT, Wings, Warptime, Wind. Depending on your list I'd take Fzorgle if you've got good synergy for it, or the Nurgle one if you want your Daemon Prince as a CC fighter.
