Agreed.... I have been using paperclips for years, and have never had a problem. Best part is you can get a box of like 100 for a buck or two, and they last a long time.

I personally when I was strapped for cash when to the hardware store and bought a small spool of brass or copper wire that would give me enough to pin up a couple thousand minis. All for less then $5.00 U.S

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I third the paper clips. If you can, find the kind with notches in them. It makes cutting them easier.

I've just picked up odd bits and pieces of copper wire here and there; always managed to find a bit when I need it. If I ever run out, I am a physics teacher, so I'll blag some out of the cupboard from one of the technicians.

My Dad does bonsai and he buys slightly thicker stuff than me from his bonsai dealer, but it is quite expensive.

A quick google search for copper wire just brought up lots of results though...

Bits and Kits uk sells 1mm wire which I find better than paperclips because with a 1mm drill bit it gives a good snug fit.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I grab brass rod from a local hobby shop, $0.50-$0.75 for a twelve inch length dependng on the thickness.

Look in the hobby area of your nearest megabox store (walmart here in the US).

They might have a spool of wire used in jewelry making. I got some just a bit thicker than a paperclip but a 30' spool for under 5$ US.

Its worth a look at the very least.

I use paperclips. Two sizes 0.5mm and 0.8mm (but I also have drillbits to match). For larger items I use 3mm brass rod (my =I= space marine is done this way).

You do need good proper wire cutters for them though, as they will notch cheaper clippers.

I use some gardening wire. It was 99p for about 10-20m (I can't remember off the top of my head).

Flourists wire is cheap, the right size and is quite soft.
Paper clips are great too but are harder.
I use both depending on what needs to be done - flourists for armatures & paper clips for pinning

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
