How about using some of the cycada shells which are just about everywhere in the midwest (espc. since you are in Iowa). Harden them up with many layers of spray sealer.... Little clawed fiends....

I've not been quiet, I've just been working more on my new Warmachine force, getting stuff for an Escalation League all ready to go, and posting in the separate blog for that army.

Come now, we're getting anxious.

I need to pick up a Cankerworm from the FLGS tomorrow if it came in, otherwise I don't think I'll have much Warmachine stuff to do in the coming week so I should have plenty of extra time for more `Nid stuff.

And I debated bumping the thread to mention this, but I figured it wasn't worth it... However since you went ahead and bumped it for me, I'll say that Tervie just made it to the top ten entrants of the Tervigon/T-Fex conversion contest over on BoLS. A free Trygon would definitely help motivate me to get around to making more Tervigons sooner, especially as I just got two pairs of Carnifex legs in the mail today from a Bitz trade.

And soon will have 4 more crushing claws.

Well hey, congrats on that. It just made me smile to see all the others based on Carnifexes or Hive Tyrants.

Just a small update. Working on a set of Boneswords for a Swarmlord for someone. Using a set of Devourer arms, trimmed off the guns leaving just the hands and a nice little hilt-like detail to which basic carved blades have been attached. Let the glue set up, and they'll get some green stuff work done where they connect and over the ends of the hands where I cut the guns off to hide all that, a carapaced hand guard type deal. Then see about putting some green stuff up the sides of the blades for the crystalline work that's described in the codex's fluff.

If there's one thing that truly motivates me to get work done, it's organized play, Leagues and Tournaments. The bigger the event, the more I get done, and coming up in two months is the `Ard Boyz event, a big one indeed. This year I'm breaking tradition and taking my `Nids rather than my Necrons I do believe, though I have been waffling back and forth between the two options. Regardless, I'm in the `Nid mindset at the moment, so that means getting back into my old projects. Foremost are T-Fex2 and the Spore Pods I picked up awhile back.

Finished the sculpting around the T-Fex's head and jaw, the Thorax Hive, and the carapace plates, plus some work on the chimneys. Want to get him done quick like so I can pick up and get to work on a second Tervigon.

Also on the table are a pair of Spore Pods (i only bothered picturing one, since i've got other stuff on the display shelf and can't get both in one shot) I'm making from the oft seen Plasma Hatchers. I had originally planned to open them up, but decided against it, and am just keeping it fairly simple instead. Cut off the bottom at an angle so they're a bit more buried in the ground and at something other than a 90 degree hit. They're almost the same width at the base as a Monstrous base, so they don't Need a base. However I would like an impact crater for him, so I think I may give them a base that's 1" (the width enemy models must stay away from them) and model that as their crater if I've got the time and stuff.

Wow, although T-Fex's back looks a little too smooth and soft. Maybe filing the curve back into a point?

Gasp! An update! I still need to gap fill and bulk out his hooves, but for the most part the body work on T-Fex2 is done, so I finally got around to putting his arms on. This one's built more to be posed for up close face smashing, so he's reared up high, mouth open wide in a roar, gun tucked up as much as it can, and tiny little arms about to show that they can still pack a wallop. I'd have liked to pose his right arm a bit higher and out a tad more, but then he'd no longer fit in my case, so he's at the maximum height and width I can support for one of the oval based figs. Otherwise going to let him sit for a day and see if the pose agrees with me, then start filling in the gaps and work on his arms. He's got side by side shots with the old one just to show off the difference in posture.

I'm always so tempted by the NIDS.... and you are tempting me more sir! I may well give in and try my hand at some. Great work.. very impressive.

I just like this picture one of my opponent's took during a game. It's actually rather old, from the very first tournament the Tervigon was built and painted for, and he only just uploaded it. And despite how it looks in that photo, the rest of the Eldar army is right behind or off to the side of the Dire Avengers, and those `Nids there didn't do so well.

That tervigon is still the best one I've ever seen. Really great work. In my gallery is a carnifex that I've borrowed your idea for and made it on all fours.

Planing to make any extra boneswords by chance? Also how are the spods coming?

Spods are primed white. Need some additional coats because that orange plastic really shows thru it. Otherwise I don't think they're going to get much done to them, just need to paint them at some point when I'm feeling motivated.

Most of the lists I've played with my `Nids have fielded two Tervigons, so I figure I should probably get around to actually building the second one, especially as there is a tournament tomorrow I want to use my `Nids in. She's obviously far from done, but she's formed enough that you know what she is and the body for TLOS. She'll probably be stuck in this state, similar to the limbo the second T-Fex has been in, until I get my three Helljacks for my Cryx done. After that I need to save up for a new army transport for the Cryx so I shouldn't be buying anything for awhile so I'll have to see about finishing these two monsters then.

I'm so excited to see more progress on the new tervigon!

What the hell?! It's an update! Not much of one granted, it's more to speak to my intention of working on my `Nids some more in the coming months as I'm running an escalation league at the FLGS, and despite not being able to win anything in it, I'm using it as an excuse to work on my `Nids some more.

Anyways, got my Mycetic Spores painted up. Unfortunately it's been so long since I painted any `Nids I used the wrong shade of wood stain, so they're darker than my other stuff.

I don't like painting. I like painted figs, just not the act of sitting down and getting them done. So you know what I Really hate? Gaunts. So damn many Gaunts, all the same, one after another after another after another. Here's a unit of fifteen Devilgaunts that's part way thru the painting process. Still need to do the green tubes on their arms and the orange and yellow coloration on their chitin armor. I'm getting a head ache though so I'm taking a break for awhile and going to go watch some more Babylon 5.

YEY! update

So damn many Gaunts... Now with a bit more color. My goal for the night is to get these guys done, as well as my Doom of Malantai. I've already repainted the Mycetic Spores above. Then I can get the whole lot wood stained, with the proper Pecan color this time, only ruining one brushing doing it, and it should all be dry for 40k night at the FLGS tomorrow.

Got all the yellow on the Gaunts done, and took a break from them to get the color onto the Doom. Also trimmed down his Scytals into little stubby claws . Busy for a few hours now, but I should be back in time to get these orange backs and black bases done on the Gaunts.

I have a headache, I'm annoyed because Gundam is/was on and I'm not watching it, and I'm thoroughly sick of my `Nids right now, but I got a bunch of them painted up this week. Fifteen Devilgaunts, six Warriors, two Mycetic Spores, and my Doom of Malantai. Just need to give them their coat of Pecan Satin Minwax Polyshade Wood Stain. I'll throw up the Before pictures now, because I've been requested some Before And After pictures of the "dip", and then get the final stage finished pictures up tomorrow as the Minwax has a dry time in the HOURS.
