pretre wrote:Yeah, because it would be great if the new edition flopped and we lost a ton of people out of the hobby. Sigh. As much as I may not agree with everything that GW does, they do provide us with a hobby that I enjoy by virtue of their existence.

How long do you think that the hobby would last if the company went down the tubes?

Your thinking totally a different thing than we are. We arent talking about a collapse of GW thing, but say a 40-60% lower initial sales figure for the 6th ed rulebook than GW expects...the kind of thing where they might start thinking that this whole 1 week notice thing isnt working. Sales for the 6th ed rulebook over the long term will likely be around what GW expects, so a short term/initial shortfall wouldnt kill the whole company, but might open their eyes a bit.

By "the hobby" Im assuming you mean all of tabletop miniatures gaming...which would do just fine without GW, as people would move to other games, as many already have.

However, if you mean "the hobby" as GW being the end-all be-all of gaming...then, well, I feel sorry for you...

Is there some secret island colony of battletech players that are still alive? That game appears to be about as dead as they get.
.

Come to Albany, NY-there is a full Battletech league-they play every Thursday. I recently started getting into it, and it's a ton of fun. I even own 5 BT minis and understand the rules now.

If you go to any of the more popular Battletech forums online (or even ask here on Dakka) you will find plenty of players. BT may not be as big as 40k, but there are many old school players who keep it alive, and recruit new players whenever possible.

I hope so, I'd like to see If its worth buying, or just play pancake.

Agreed, Ive said it before, Im not dropping $70+ on a new 40k edition until I know theres enough improvement over 5th to be worth it.

Wonder if online retailers will list the book early if we now know the date, much like the flyers being listed a while ago.

I just feel so let down. A teaser about a pre order or an anoumcement about an anouncment? If this is not a release the GW must think of as idiots. I will not get excited over anything GW again.

Maybe its time to get excited over tje Hords box set.

If many players end up getting new releases every few days, this would get their attention to the website. Still not really advertising though.

That would be lovely, but I sincerely doubt it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they released new models to coincide with the rulebook launch though. Did Fantasy 8th edition launch with a bunch of new models, or just the rulebook?

8e FB will have been released nearly 2 years by the time 6e 40k streets (10 July for 8e, 7 July for 6e.) A 33% mark up is completely in line with the rest of their price rises. I stand by my prediction, but do concede that if it is lower, that it will most certainly not be a dime less than $80.

And for your second question no. 8e released with nothing. I don't believe a single model was released until the coming of the O+G book in March of 2011, 8 months after its release.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

Keep in mind that the 5th Ed book sold for $57.75 before going off shelves, so a $74.25 price tag would be a 28.6% price increase.

That's about what the WFB BRB prices did when 8th hit the scene so it wouldn't surprise me.
then again you could kill a bear with that book, it's a nice improvement (and who still brings a full size rulebook to a game anyway?)

I want a 500 plus page tome of knowledge, so i'm fully willing to drop $75 on something like that.

Looking at my collection, $50 for Apocalypse and $60 for IA 4, those books are paltry compared to WHFB 8th edition (our likely comparison book for this 40K book, I hope)

I'm also hopeful for in addition to the (rumored) 18 mission configs (rather than the current 9 possible ones) for some good narrative/scenario missions in the book, as well as a kill teams/combat patrol variant that works with the new rules.

I've got my fingers crossed tightly, now the waiting is killing me!

Pre-order on 23rd with TWO WEEK window before the actual release in July. Something to do with a five week month.

I don't mean to be rude, but if you don't want to see pictures before it's released, this probably is not the thread for you, seeing as most of us want to see pictures early, that's why they show up in these threads! Unless I'm the only one who comes to dakka rumor threads to hopefully see things before GWS decides it's okay for us to know what we're buying.

Has absolutely no reference to any codex as none tie with the number 6. BA were not the 6th Legion, nor DA. Wolves are the closest codex as they were the VI legion.

It could be a VI% price rise.

You can get those things from the GW website on the 23rd. Although they will probably put up the book cover at the same time.

In general, your request is pretty insane. People will quote the picture of the cover even if there's a notice put in the thread title. If you want to achieve such a crazy, pointless goal it's incumbent on you to resist the temptation of viewing preview discussions.
