I'm still new to this game so I'm not sure what you can do.
Ok this is probably a stupid question but is it possible to incorporate daemon hunters with space marines?
How would it be done do you use two codexs for the army?Just wondering.

Yeah, there are allies rules in the Daemonhunters codex. As long as you take a Daemonhunters inquisitor, you should be good. Witchhunters have something similar.

The inquisition armies allow you to take marine or guard units to bolster your force. It would technically be an inquisition army, but you'd bring along some other dudes (allows for it in the codex).
Such is the power of the inquisition.

The only problem with incorporating Space Marines in a Daemon Hunters army is that you can't use the Grey Knights. However, if the Space Marines are the parent army, you can use Grey Knights. All the rules for it are on page 21 of the codex. The rules are basically the same for Witch Hunters if you are wondering.

Yes I looked this up for the reason of when I finish getting my models for imperial guard if either Witch or Daemon hunters would have something I would want to take, mainly a vindicare assassin. Of course many things are awesome.
But when I first heard you could do this I was wondering what in the hell allowed you to do this.

If you field an DH army, you can include SM.
There are some restrictions in the FOC.
Additionally, a DH army included GK's cannot include SM's.

Call it an SM army and bring GK allies. This is the only way you can do this. Even if it is majority GK as long as it has the basic SM FOC and you call it SM you will be fine.

What's the reason for this? I think it's dumb that a base DH army with GKs can't take SMs... Is there a balance issue here?
Acronyms FTW.

They don't give a fluff reason, so one is left to assume its for balance. How it actually enforces some sort of balance is beyond me, but whatever.

It is most probably because:
A: The DH codex was written so long ago that the rule has now been changed. Presumably a new DH codex will allow SM allies.
B: The FAQ's tend not to be too large as GW prefer to wait for release dates to rewrite the whole codex. (Lazy).
C: GW is GW and everything does what it wants.

You can always take GK in an SM army per the allying rules in the DH codex (0-1 HQ, 0-1 Elite, 0-2 Troops, 0-1 Fast) as long as you take at least 1 SM HQ and 2 SM Troops. You may never ally DH Heavy selections into another army list.
On the flip side, you can induct "Allied Space Marines" into a DH army as long as you do not take any GK or "Inducted Imperial Guard" units per another set of rules regarding inducting units into a DH army, also found in the DH codex.
Simply put, read the DH codex.

The new codex will (eventually) most likely be more of a stand alone army, not so dependant on allies, but we'll see. Or we won't if they never get around to it...
