No-one pays any attention to Dark Eldar posts!

I know theyre old and boring and need a codex update etc, but theyre actually still class, and could potentially kick your ass!

Would you say, 'sorry, I'm not playing you because your army is too boring' ?

Theyre actually very versitile because of the radically different army styles you can have. I'ts not just marines, comanders, terminators tanks and dreadnoughts.

Or Orks with different wargear.

You can have haemonculus themed armies with talos and grotesques. (talos are actually amazing like), Wych cults, warrior swarms (blasters and splintercannons?), Fast armies, heavy armies, lots of cruel orientated wargear (terrorfex's and such like), and theyre is quite a lot of special characters to add even more interest.

I also collect and lover Space Marines, and Orks and Tau by the way so im not shooting them down. (Pun haw haw!)

We aren't paying any attention to this thread.

In a Society in which there is no law, and in theory no compulsion, the only arbiter of behaviour is public opinion. But public opinion, because of the tremendous urge to conformity in gregarious animals, is less tolerant than any system of law. When human beings are governed by "thou shalt not", the individual can practise a certain amount of eccentricity: when they are supposedly governed by "love" or "reason", he is under continuous pressure to make him behave and think in exactly the same way as everyone else.

They have a gak codex and much worst models (have you seen the warpbeasts?) so nobody gives a damn about seeing some ugly mandrakes no matter how well it's painted.

2500 Points Isstavan Drop site massacre Iron Hands (still waiting for dat codex)
I managed to play a 1750 point game with minimal proxieing on the first day DE came out. go me!

No, I really think they could do something with the Necron's story. If it was expanded on then it could be an interesting perspective for the 40k universe.

That's true. The Necron's story sets the stage for the rise of the Imperium and the other races (or at least it should). A good treatment of their story would add some real richness to the materium.

Well, Dark Eldar don't even need an update. They are still one of the top codicies competitively.

The Dark Eldar don't deserve a codex any more than the Kroot or Harlequins do. Their plot can be sumarized in a two page spread, and you can run them counts-as with the Eldar book, along with regular Eldar Corsairs.

If you need to ask yourself why people don't like Dark Eldar, you've never seen their models. Their rules are dated, but still competitive. It really all comes down to those godawful sculpts.

They, who say that DE are ugly just haven't seen them well-painted. Don't trust them... I think the most important reason is an old codex, yes, it still very competetive (it's damn the most competetive codex for all time), but with obsolete design and models players just scared to build their army. Compare it with a Colt pistol, who doubt that this weapon still very dangerous and cute? But of course if you want to shoot seriously you will choose a modern pistol.
P.S. sorry for my English, hope you could read this.

Yea, all valid points.

I hate some of the models, especially the way the majority are metal, but some of the models I really really like! I think most of the plastic stuff is really good, like the warriors and the raiders look great.

If they brought out plastic Elites, plastic Talos, and possibly plastic hq models, and gave them maybe mandrakes as an alternative troops choice, then obviously tidied up the codex a bit (things like WTF is the point in a cruciable of malediction?), etc, Then they would be so unbelieveably good that I would have to just, by them all then cry for a bit.

Dnecro, I'm glad your making the stand for our race over there! Annihilate them all!

Even seeing well painted Dark Eldar, I still won't build them. I simply don't like 90% of their models. If I can't enjoy painting them, they will never get done, thus, never get played.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I dislike the basic warrior models and the "surf board" riders but most everythig else isn't too bad. And the DE jetbikes are actually quite cool looking.

I would pick them up in a heart beat, and use different models for the warriors, if they came out with a new codex.

I've always done really well with my DE in tournaments. They really are one of the best armies to run, even with an old codex and some of the worst sculpts ever.
I use a lot of different ranges of models to use in place of some of the uglier ones or to add variety to other units.

The DE are still amazingly competitive. So if an army had to go 10 years without an update to it's codex, this is one of the few armies that could have done it. Now, the problem this presents is despite their 'competitiveness' having a 10+ year old codex puts off any new players who want the "shiny".

The same can be said of the models. While I can think of maybe only two modes in the whole range that are really nice sculpts, Lilith and Urien Rakarth (my opinion), the rest of the army is very dated. You got to remember the DE were one of the first of the multi-part sprues available.

While I personally would love to see new plastics myself I'm not going to re-invest in an entire DE force since I have 3k worth of them already. However, what I would do is make a new faction..say an all witch army of DE...if nice plastics are made and the option will still exist once a new codex is produced.

I still have 60+ DE warriors on sprue in case a new codex requires me to majorly overhaul the army. For those that hate DE..who cares? I personally have the same opinion about SM they are bland and uninteresting and I wouldn't spend a red cent on any of them.

Models are not great (outside of the incubi IMO) that is why all my dark eldar are dark elves. Also, about 1 /2 the codex is not competitive at all, and with the new codexes the points values are a bit high. (Are warriors really worth 8 points per model?)

I have myself an air force, hopefully when/if a new codex comes out this will still be a good build, however I am looking forward to seeing some new models as well as more options than wyches, warriors & incubi.

There models are horrible and there codex is soo old. Plus they have had there codex for so long there isnt really anything new to bring up about them the only thing left is to QQ until a new codex. I dont play them and I dont really want to but it would be a beautiful day to hear from gw as to when they are getting a new codex and models. I imagine when they do it will be a huge deal. Since an army that is all but forgotten will be the new Fotm and the countless new models they will surely get. It will be a great day for WH

I just started playing 40k a few months ago and personally I think DE's models for the most part look great. Wyches and Warp Beasts definitely need a makeover though.

Warriors are fantastic for modding and painting though. The sprues give you a veritable plethora of options to make a variety of troops. Spikes, different body armors and helmets, bits etc. It's fantastic for making squads look unique from each other in large games. At 8 points a pop you're going to have a lot of warriors on the field.

Raiders look cool but they are a bitch to carry around with that damn fin protruding out like a sore thumb.

I know what you mean. The day DE finally get new models and a new codex is the day I throw away or convert all of my raiders. Its not that I dont like the raiders its just that well their a bitch to carry and the fins always fall off the guns always fall off every time I bought a ravager I never got all of the parts so my shields are usually falling off now mind you this is my getting back into the game army back in 4th so my modeling skills sucked.

Anways yep cant wait to get my claws on some new raiders!

I actually played a Dark Eldar army with my Eldar army.

I spent the majority of the battle tank shocking his open-toped skimmers with my WS so my DA could actually have something to shoot at that doesnt have an armor value

Full on!

All agreeable I think.

I still dont jump to use the term 'ugly' tho. I know what you mean but I think a good old Irish term of Sh1te is much more suitable in use when talking about the models! Ugly just seems to be the popular word!

Anyway. Aye, suppose all these outcomes were easily assumed before I posted this, but I was mildly angry at not getting responses to my armylist for today! lol

The battle was cut short anyway against the space marines and It was actually pretty even by the 4th turn.

65% of my army entered through the warp and were about to destroy Calgar! (Calgar in a 1000pt side against my 1250 side?).
