HI Everyone.
I’m a totally new player to 40k. I actually picked it up after some discussions w/ a friend I play online games with and also buying the Dawn of War series a few months ago through Steam (1, all it’s xpacks, and 2 – no Chaos Rising… yet).
I had never really given 40K much attention until I started the DoW games. I’ve played through ½ of winter assault so far and also co- op’ing a campaign in DoW2 w/ the friend. Then, as I learned about the lore and a little about each army, I began scouring the net for info. After learning about the boundless potential for allowing creativity to flow, I started delving deeper. I’ve become enthralled in the rich story, epic battles, deep customization and endless possibilities.
I started w/ buying the rulebook and I’ve just finished my first book in the Horus Hersey series (which has inspired me to play Chaos. The fall of great power has always drawn me in)
I’ve been slowly acquiring tools for modeling and pieces for my army through ebay. The start up is a little expensive for me to pay ‘retail’ on all the items.
Reading the rulebook is a little daunting for me. I’m a much better hands-on learner, but it’s coming along. While I have a few sprues of models begging for me to get started, I haven’t’ actually done anything with them quite yet. I’m determined to have a good looking army, and not “waste” my limited investments. So, I’ve been practicing on $1 army men for the time being. At least until I’m comfortable with really painting (and some practice w/ green stuff I got in one of the auctions I won).
I’ve been rummaging through the galleries here on Dakka and I have to say … they are some really amazing pieces out there. Truly inspiring and impressive art. While playing the game is my ultimate goal, the modeling and conversion aspect has totally drawn me in.
You’ll likely see me posting lots and lots of “5 W” questions, please forgive me as I’m an anxious and excited total newb.
Additionally, any really great links people would likie to pass along to a start up player would be much appreciated.
Lastly, if anyone lives in S. Florida (West Palm up to Vero Beach area) and has any groups I can sit in on or start gaming with (eventually) please send me a PM!!
