Haven't they broken up a lot of their older moulds? They used to have a service where you could have just about any old figure recast but this seems to have been wound up, and now the classics/collectors area of their site seem full of stuff only a couple of year old. The bulk of stuff is just unavailable. As far as I'm concerned, if it was produced since the release of 40K 3rd edition, it's not a 'classic' figure.
I don't know about them intentionally breaking up moulds, but keeping them in service forever just to cast a couple things a year is expensive.
Mad Doc Grotsnik wrote:I don't see how the moulds get broken. They are made of steel!
Well, unless it is cast with a flaw in it. Thats possible I suppose.
Steel can break, an I think the molds are fairly fragile, like it someone drops it and it develops a crack or something.

Yeah,
I don't know if this kit was plastic or metal (or resin?)
I thought the metal models were made in a kinda rubber mould? which i guess breaks down...
and plastic models in steel molds...
I dunno?
But new one looks cool... worth the wait?
and a plastic stompa... being apoc only kinda thing, I'd rather see other stuff in plastic first... sorry.

Moulds get broken all the time unfortunately, as Airfix managed recently with their TSR-2 just after the first production run making the kit relatively rare - Oops!

Yes, the rubber or whatever has a limited lifespan, after a while of being shot full of hot plastic and worked by a machine they go brittle and bits come off and and detail starts to degrade. Sometimes they will cut another but that's an expensive job, and you'd weigh up the economics of it against how many you'd expect to sell.
The Rhino was produced for years, thank god they retired that tired old kit, but I think the quality on that wasn't as good as examples from when it was first made. On the other hand, GW might have just been rushing the production and whipping them out the moulds faster, which is one reason you get sink marks.

Something similar happened wit the plastic Dwarf Lord / BSB sprue, apparently shortly after test casts were made but before production kicked in. They didn't remake the sprue, opting instead to do some dwarf lords in metal, but there's a pic of what might have been in the CCM Wiki.

The battlewagon pictured in this thread is the old Armorcast model. The reason production stopped is that they lost the liscence to produce GW-related items.
It's still a great kit, despite its age.

True, a Warbuggy/Wartrakk/Skorcha all-in-one kit with orky bits, Big Gunz kit, and Killa Kanz would be most welcomed. Agreed?
Now a plastic Stompa on the other hand would be the reason for me to get into Apocalypse which is what I think GW is wanting to push with releasing this model as a kit. If it sells well, then they can explore more with the bigger stuff. This of course is entirely my opinion, I just have high hopes.

well if they do i hope it actually looks like a ork version of a titan. because that LAME ass bell version is horrible looking IMO. Everytime i see one of those drawn or even scratch built, it makes me feel a bit annoyed. if they do come out looking like bells im just making my own.

The metal molds used for casting plastic wear over time. Therefore they are reworked after a while. Curious how they never managed to break the mold of the original Rhino...
Probably they had several Rhino molds, as GW can't afford not to sell Rhino's as they are their best selling vehicle kit. The original plastic Predator turret (ca. 1990) sprue with the T-72 like turret had not been in use for many years too.

The original is was a plastic kit by GW in the late eighties (sometime after the Rhino). A view years after GW stopped producing it, Armorcast released a resin version of the same model.

if its pastic, theres are chance it will be under £100
if resin, im guessing about £300 ish
so im hoping its plastic, much easier to buy 2 a week for 3 - 4 weeks at that than warhound prices.

It does seem very small compared to what we're used to. It is not a bad Battlewagon... according to 2nd Edition Standards. But with Landraiders and Baneblades on the table now, it is hard to believe that this one has Armor 14 on the front.
Compared to the small 2nd Edition (Gorkamorka Trukks) it seems a lot bigger.
I am looking forward to the new Battlewagon, though, and won't look back once I have my hands on one.
