That was my first thought as well. Finally a flying base that actually seems to be able to withstand ... well ... uh ... gaming.

There's quite a bit more regarding the open house on Warseer, more pics and a graphic breaking down the components of the command squad kits for both cadians and catachans ( Post 88

Here's a quote from the thread regarding the 40k seminar from philbrad
Now I'm back home some flesh to the 'bones'

40K SEMINAR

Host by JJ, Robin Crukshank (IG Codex author) and Alan Merritt (GW IP supremo). A very, very tight lipped seminar, after the one last year with Alessio and Rick Priestly. The theme was the Apoc expansions for March and Codex: IG. We've seen the Stompa and Shadowsword so I'll not harp on, the next WD has additional APOC rules for Stompa's, extra wargear and a Stompa squadron Apoc datasheet. I ask the question if we would see add-on sprues for the Stompa to make the Mek and Goff variants, and no we won't currently.

IG codex surprisingly tight lipped on this also, the models look great the command squads are very cool with lots of additional bits to add to your other IG squads. Two banners in each (I think) sgts power fist, plasma/bolt pistol. Medic add ons Vox caster and special weapons. Both include heavy flamers, both sets have them based on the existing flamer units. Basically these become 'two up' the May edition of UK WD has parts breakdown and there are boat loads of bits in these two sets. There will be 4 plastic boxes 4 blisters and 2 battleforces (Cadian & Catachan) coming out. Evidently form the talk there is no multi variant Leman Russ kit and the Catachan/Cadian frame dont have additional components - buya command squad there's plenty on that seems to be the answer! Metals, Imperial Advisors we've heard about them in the IG rumours work like the SM Chapter Masters do for Apoc. Primaris Psyker is a great model nothing on the rules for him. Unlike last June's event there were no examples of the IG codex or pages from it on display. Lord Commisar is very cool too. Sentinel has had a revamp, the plasma cannon variant is very nice the missile launcher looks a bit weedy to me but the former metal enclosed cockpit pieces are now in plastic and on the sprue, also the legs are multiple pieces as well so you can pose your Sentinels in a variety of ways now. Of course the rather spanky Valkyrie - this is a very nice model, a very very nice model. Looks about the same size as the FW one comes with different chin weaponry and underslung missile on the wings and the two heavy bolter gunners. I can confirm the Valk is a fast, skimmer armour 12/10 and has a special rule allowing 'flyby deep striking' where by the Valk continues moving whilst the troops deploy. They have to take a terrain test when they land to see if they are injured. On the whole a very cool model and my DH Stormtroopers will be getting a couple at some stage. Ratlings are nice models sort of mini Ogryns with sniper blunderbusses and there is a least one Les Dawson lookelikey in there. Nothing on the rules in any depth or choices in the codex. I think Alan M was there to keep a leash on what was being said basically anything not to do with the IG/Apoc releases was not being talked about. When the inevitable question about additional games i.e Heroquest/Space Hulk was fielded it was met with a smile and a comment that a 'boxed game was being work on'. Nothing on Space Wolves, Dark Eldar or Necrons at all. I looks also like the Blood Angels with be the first and last 40K 'Dwarfdex' for the foreseeable future.

THE HALL - IG and Stompa/Shadowsword dominated the cabinets. I didn't see anything else on show that may hint at releases post IG looks like the GW clamp down on 'what we're doing' is back on after a period of some wagging tongues. The old 6 month window seems to be back with a vengeance.

I love those Ratlings, they're full of character. Is one of them hiding a missile launcher?

The command figures look good too. Correct me if I'm wrong but the 'skinny' psyker is an Astropath right?

The Valkyrie looks excellent as I was expecting, it has some subtle improvements over the Forgeworld one too judging by the pictures.

I'm also quietly buzzed by the 'Green Beret' Crapachan.

I’m more interested in the Commissar Lord’s rules than the model. I already have plenty of good Commissar Models

[Edit] Anyone want to speculate upon the options for Officer/Command squad options based upon the sprue pics? It looks like Storm Bolter may have bitten the bullet as an Officer weapon option along with the Bolter (for Cadians).

Storm Bolter might be out, but I think it's a bit of a leap in logic to write off Bolters for Cadian Command...

I mean, they only have a Heavy Flamer on the sprue, so does that mean they don't get other Heavy Weapons?

I am well tempted to abandon Tonka's Tuff Gitz and do a Regiment all my own.

Heavy weapons are in the infantry boxed sets, which will contain twelve models if I read the poorly typed down report of the seminar correctly.

Recut or repacked?
Since heavy flamer is metal catchan only now IIRC.

To include HF in the only rumored "new" plastic sprue for IG infantry wouldn't be bad.

Most likely two infantry sprues with enough parts for ten men and the contents of a single heavy weapons team thrown together into a single boxed set. No mention was made of recut sprues.

Boxed sets are reputedly going down to £12, so I would bet 10 Guardsmen, bits for a Sarge, Spesh Weapon and Heavy Crew.

More cost effective for GW to just make a smaller box with two Cadian sprues (10-men) and then throw in the two HW squad sprues (2 more guys) than it would be to recut the sprue.

Plus 12 guys per box is great, as you can use that Heavy Weapon sprue even more effectivley that way.

Interesting point.

Are they currently 5 to a sprue? Not built IG in years. Not since the current Codex came out in fact.

I... think so... yes. Yes they are. You get four sprues per box'o'twenty, so that's 5 per sprue. Yeah. I used one box'o'twenty and a 3-team Heavy Weapon box to make two full squads, 4 HW teams and 4 Flamers, so it has to be 5 per sprue.

Extremely unlikely. GW doesn't release separate sprues with useful stuff on there (at least not yet). Be prepared to troll through various bitz sites to find extra caps.

By my maths they'd be better value at anything up to about £15 than buying the current boxes separately. If 12 guys for £12 comes to pass, I'd be happy, so long as they give a decent variety of weapons for HW/SW choices. Slapping two Shock Troop sprues and one HW sprue in a box would see me parted from my money far too readily for my own good.

Wow. I've never liked Ratlings - until now. Now, they actually look like they would fit in an army. That's awesome. And that table full of Valkyries! Whoo! The Cadian with the field cap is great, but I'm very stoked about the new Catachans - the one with the beret and bolter looks fantastic. And even the Primaris Psyker looks tempting to buy.

Anybody notice how there were a couple Catachans with Cadian torsos to illustrate how the Catachan arms have been cut down to look reasonable now? Oh, 'scuse me - that flak armor torso comes on the Catachan Command sprue! Heh.

You know, I was just about to say how dopey the flamer on the command sprues look until I realized that there were two flamers on that sprue - hey, no, wait - the dopey looking one is actually a heavy flamer. Hey, and a swagger stick! And a gas mask! Sweet! Somehow the Catachan heavy flamer doesn't look nearly as dumb. And a masked Catachan medic head! Brilliant! You know we're going to be seeing high prices on that bit at the online suppliers. Hm. I may need to remove my Catachan Heavy Weapon squads from my Swap Shop ad....

I'm a little concerned about the pic of the gatling Russ, but it's nice to see the Land Speeder Storm in that batch of pics.

You never know.

A bit of an odd comparisson, but the Fantasy Chaos Chosen Heads are now available seperately. Mind you, those are in Metal rather than plastic.

And thinking numbers to a box....there is a kind of precedent. When the Orks got recut, the Nob was added, giving up to 11 models.

So perhaps we will see the Heavy Weapons in besides 10 other Guard?

I'd rather not troll for bitz.

Double checking the Valk sprues and looking at a few of the pics, I'm happy to report that the sprues contain both a Lascannon and a Multi-Laser for that side mount. I was worried it was just going to be a Lascannons, but both weapons are there!!!

There's some of the shared parts that the Vultures use, yeah.
But you can't actually *make* a Vulture without some scratch building of parts.

However, there is the Vendetta...
which is just an uparmed Valkyrie, it seems.
