Sure, why not paint them whatever color you want. There are plenty of weird places in the Galaxy where genetic mutations, radiation or toxins could change the colors of Orks. They would adapt their mindset eventually. Even Orks are that adaptable.

Also, I know that there could be situations where the skin could go murky brown or darker, you know different shades.
But PURPLE?!? Freaking, Fething PURPLE? NEEEEEEEVVVVVEEEEEEEERRRRR!!!!!

My Urban Gangsta themed Orks are painted black. They have bling/shiny grills and custom Trukks (converted up Impala/Lowrider models pretty close to scale). Still working on an official name for them. The army is split between Shooty (Da Kripz) and Choppy (Da Bluddz), painted in appropriate colors.

My two HQs are: Mad Doc Tadre and Snoop Squiqqy Squig (Mad Dok w/Attack Squig w/Afro) and Ork³ (Mek Boy w/SAG).

Names so far are:
O.W.A. - Orks Wit Addatudez
Publik Enamee
Da Gang$taz

Army is still being worked on right now (plan to have 5k points total). Having a hard time with Heavy Support and how to include it fluff wise.....

I'm all for different coloured orks, green is good but I got bored after my first half a dozen boyz since then I've just experimented as much as possible.

I know that miniwargaming has a video up on a way to paint different colored Orks that I am going to do once I get my CSMs done. Its kinda like randomizing what colors you are doing but most are some shade of green with washed or highlights.

Two guys in my group have "alternative" Orks.
One is based on a Hoth-like frozen world and they are Purple from the cold. The other army's warboss feeds the Orks iron ore "to make em tuffer!" so they are all Red!

I personally like the yellow-brown colors some people have done. Much more "realistic" than the neon green ones. I did a Badmoon in what I would consider a good color for Ork skin:

Ach,I'm sort of torn on this one,of course I belive one should be as open and creative as possible,however the "Ork purist" in me shouts" NO,NO and NO!! Orkz are mean and green!'
That being said,if I were to venture from green,I'd stick with "earth" tones browns & yellows or shades of grey.

As far as I'm concerned, Orks can be any colour. In a galaxy as vast as the 40k universe, there's bound to be Orks that aren't green.
Then again, I am a heretic : my Space Marines aren't blue

I have an orky army and I'm painting it brown but now I know that they used to be brown I'm gonna spray them again or I prob wont cause it took me 6 months to paint the first 5 cause of sheer hatingpaintingness

I based my orks off of that. I'm going to throw in some albino Painboyz and maybe a red Warp'ead.

I think that a mixture looks good of some green some brown some red adds a nice variety to the army or a simple squad.

I have a friend with Green Ogres and Blue Khorne Daemons (aka Blue-Corn chip daemons). It's surprising how pissy people get about colors. I like the change up and it makes for interesting discussion. Of course in his case he regretted doing both because of the gripes, but a blue Bloodthirster is a sight to behold.

A blue Bloodthirster. That actually sounds really awesome. It's weird that people would get upset about seeing a model that wasn't painted the same colors as everybody else.

I do like many diffrent coloured ones
but im thinking of doing hawk turquoise with a blue wash
dunno what you think of the idea but like people have said before yoru army do them how you want.

Ive just painted up the skin using a base of hawk turquoise no washe's yet and its not looking bad
