Bit of an update for now..

Some pics of the basilisk ready to prime. Gunshield is plasticard, based on the vanaheim ones but providing more cover to the working parts of the gun. Also trimmed off the 'ears' of the the platform as I don't like how they hang out over the tracks. Used them to make steps to ascend the platform rather than the straight up ladder that comes with the kit - had been broken off by previous owner anyway!

As already mentioned I decided to pimp the highlights just a touch, and also picked up some Gale Force 9 Dead grass to just add a little something to the bases

And for good measure, a couple of WIP shots of some other squad members

Quite like how they are progressing, albeit at a rather slow pace. The models for my psyker battle squad turned up in the post yesterday and I can't wait to paint them. Should give me enough motivation to finally get this squad done!

C&C always welcome

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Very nice.

The steps up to the platform look a little wonky, though it could just be the camera angle. Otherwise it is looking good - the shield is great.

The troopers are looking fantastic as usual. Might add a bit more static grass to the bases though - not much more - perhaps about another 50% of what is already there?

Nice update, but in my taste i would colour the skin of your guardsmen in a more sickly/chaosy feel. Right now they look to "human" and not enough "chaosy tainted" they got gas mask to cover up their faces after all so the air should be poisonous or something.
Though this is just imho and what I would have done, it's up to you
Overall loving the conversions and looking forward to more

Cheers dude! Hadn't noticed the steps but you are quite correct. They look wonky because they aren't quite perpendicular with the platform. Need to fix that before I spray it but should only be a five min job. Think I was looking at it from the top down when fitting them in so missed it. Lesson learnt!

Not sure about adding much more grass though. Idea is that small amounts are growing out from around stones where water will collect. Just there to break up the base a bit really. Might do a test one on an empty base and see how it looks with more though as you could be on to something.

@Rose_Mountainz: I see them more as a PDF somewhere that has fallen to the sway of chaos rather than them having been tainted by the warp for untold decades which is part of the reason for the 'human' flesh. Also helps them contrast with the sickly pallid flesh colour the psyker battle squad are going to be

Impressive! Who needs to buy expensive FW renegade kits when you can easily make them with GS and some time? How did you make those gasmask eyeglasses? with the tip of a ballpoint pen?

|Nice work, esspecially on saving the Bassie.

I'm plannning on stripping some devilfishes, do you have any tips on stripping vehicles in particular? I'm not sure I have enough dettol to cover it completely. Would some kind of bag work, do you think?

Thanks

@FerrumIgnatus: the central circle is made using the tip of a flat-ended syringe from an ink cartridge refill kit, then the mask is sculpted around that to create the outer rim.

@pguard36: when it comes to strippers (giggedy) I favor stuff called fairy power spray. You find it in tesco and the like in the cleaning isle. Don't mistake regular fairy for it though - this stuff is like £3 and comes in a green spray-bottle with a red spray bit. When you spray it over what you want to strip it kinda foams up so a few (4-6) squirts should coat most of a devilfish, not counting the underside. I do mine in a big disposable turkey-roasting foil dish. All you have to do is leave them for half an hour, then scrub at them with a toothbrush - 15p for 2 also in tesco - and rinse. Melts paint right off, although it won't touch primer as I discovered with the chimera I recently picked up coated in thick green paint.

Awesome work bro, I was lucky enough to get some of the FW traitor guard torsos in a trade once and you've really nailed te detail, I can imagine how much hassle those repirators must be to put together!

Well it's update time once again. Just putting the finishing touches on the first squad tonight, so should be able to take some photos of them to post up tomorrow.

Have also knocked up the overseer for my psyker battle squad. He and they are now ready to prime and get painting.

Couple shots of him:

Where the rebreather pipes on his mask enter look a little ugly in that photo but it's kinda how the light is working with it, look more pleasing in real life - be more evident when painted.

Then for the actual psykers, I'm using mantic games ghouls. Not seen anyone do this yet and they fit the bill perfectly for me. They have the whole emaciated bedraggled bald thing going on which is perfect for what I want. They also have the whole 'oogadie-boogadie' pose going on as if they are doing something psyker. Plus they have nails and spikes driven into them which also fits for tortured psykers.

One thing I will mention is that in changing the pose slightly to a more upright than leaning forwards one, a gap is formed at the waist which needed filled with green stuff. Not too much of a problem but something to keep in mind if anyone else uses them for this purpose. Fortunately it's easy to blend in with the existing cloth on the sculpt.

So thats all for now, until next time!

Loving everything on this plog so far! Really impressed with your green Fu, it definately led to the creation of a few of my units. Glad you used those mantic games miniatures, I had been wondering about their scale and quality for a while. The army is shaping up really nicely and I cant wait to see a group shot!

Cheers guys. Got them primed up and ready to start tomorrow. First platoon squad is now also all but finished except for having the static grass added to their bases which I will do later on tonight. Then should get some photos of them done tomorrow. If things go to plan I might even take some WIP ones of the PBS with some paint on. As they are mainly skin and rags they shouldn't take very long to paint up. Famous last words however..

Another update.

Finally have the first squad finished. Seem to have taken forever but I think they look pretty nice. C&C always welcome.

Also have the PBS base coated and they are undergoing colour testing this afternoon. Photos of those over the next few days if I like how they progress.

Well it has been yet another month. Don't quite know where this year is going but have had other things to do so these guys have yet again had to take a back seat! Have the PBS about half done so hopefully a decent update on them soon. For the moment to tide you over here are some WIP pics. Gives you an idea of the colour scheme - need to lighten the flesh up a bit still and do the faces.

And the overseer is progressing also

Have also been indulging my dabbly side by putting together a counts as Straken to lead my guys. He's getting there - shotgun arm is still blu-tac'd on in these pics. Still a bit of work yet to go but I'm happy so far. He's a bit of a nod towards the forgeworld renegade commander.

Shall make a definite effort to be a bit less slack with these guys!

C&C always welcome

Well 'Straken' - guess I'll have to come up with a better name for him by the time he gets painted - is pretty much finished:

Unless I notice anything that bugs me about him by the time I've finished building up his command squad thats about how he's going to look.

Also getting there with a vet squad as well. Prototype home-made meltas:

As well as couple of shotgun vets, obviously not holding their shotguns here:

Guy on the right still needs his mask finished. Going for more of a hood over the head with respirator gear hidden underneath than gasmask look on these guys.

Have the basilisk half way through paint too so if I manage to take some pics of it tomorrow I will put those up as well.

The overseer is brilliant, love the club with nails. Gives the impression it's more to keep his squad in line rather than for actual enemy combat.

Nice work on the meltaguns, they fit really well. Are they slightly longer than a standard melta? Would make sense, keeps those fleshy hands a bit further from the fiery death end also easier to fire round/over cover without exposing much of yourself.

Is there a reason why the group wear respirators? Or is it simply to make them look awesome?

Based on the fluff, the renegades were previous Vraks citizens and since Vraks is currently a nuclear wasteland they were the respirator's to allow for breathing. It's a good read if you havent read it yet.

Cheers for the kind words guys.

@Colossal Donkey: the meltaguns, from grip to muzzle are the same length as a space marine melta. what gives the illusion of extra length is the stock, as it is built from a standard cadian lasgun. As for the respirators, I rather just like the look of them. Makes them look a bit more dodgy.

@SoO: The lenses are made by making a pair of impressions in the putty with a hollow round tube of the appropriate gauge. These are then flattened ever so slightly with a colour shaper so they are flat rather than convex. I then sculpt the rest of the mask out around it using a colour shaper to keep everything smooth.

-------

Bit more of a WIP update today. Getting there with the PBS, have a couple of test shots of how I'm going to do the faces - can't quite decide if the OSL is bright enough yet but don't want to go too cartoony and over the top. Just hint at them glowing with power about to be unleashed.

Having near enough finished the commander model - although I have noticed his boots need bulking up a tad from the pointy shoes he is sporting - I have been knocking about a scratch built techmagos. He is still very much WIP but gives you an impression of where he is headed.

Have the basilisk almost at the point of weathering now. A few highlights and detail work left then I can crack on with some rusty-grimy badness. Slightly tempted to redo where the chaos star overlaps onto the other panels and leave them without it. Going to decide on that tonight.

Thats all for now folks. Thanks for looking and C&C is always welcome.
