Cheers for all the support fellas. Nearly finished building a PCS so will upload some pics of that plus the zombie guard guys I've been fiddling with over the weekend. Vet squad is getting there. If I get a chance to paint over the weekend they should get finished. "Should"

@silverMK2: Its well easy man, and doesn't strictly need to be a lasgun. Knocked one up using a bolter as the base weapon the other day. Just need to add a plasticard spacer to the front once you cut the barrel off to get the right length and it's basically all the same process. I'll take some pics of the next couple I do to prove it.

Thanks for posting that Meltagun how to! The actual GW Meltas are based on Bolters so I'll be trying it out on one of those someday.

Quick update for today. Didn't really get much painting done over the weekend but the vets should be done soon. In the mean time here are some pics of the PCS I've built and the zombies I mentioned before..

The PCS I wanted to stand out from the rest of the infantry so used the muscular catachan arms for an industrial worker look. To further augment this I've given them welding masks to go with their flamers. Thought I'd try out a ripped mask look for the commander complete with dangling re-breather mask. Quite like how he has turned out.



The zombies are still quite WIP, need a few bits of armour and cloth added here and there so they look less .. nude. The crawling one was a bit of fun that I think works, spinal column still needs a bit of a trim at the end.

Looking pretty cool

I think those zombies look a bit too thin in the arms and legs (especially compared to the IG bits), but that is the only complaint really. You may also want to zombify the heads a little (perhaps even use some helmetless heads? Looks a bit strage the rest of their armour has gone but they kepy their brain protection )

Brains are very important to zombies...

Don't worry dude, I'm all over it. They're quite a handy use for scraps of leftover GS from other stuff. By the time they are ready for paint your worries will be resolved

Loving the developments, good to see this blog going again and getting all nice and painty! Keep them coming! I really like the skinny legs on the zombies, definitely some terrible nuclear based wasting disease from papa nurgle has made them like that!

I love your use of the Scout legs, I am a huge fan of the scout legs for a reason I can't place.

Your Straken looks excellent. I am also using Scout bodies to make some Plaguemarine Scouts with shotguns (counts-as veterens in Carapace).

I have a Straken counts-as model as well, but he is a Plaguemarine Lord to represent the 3+ armour save, and how renegades are sometimes led by a CSM champion.

Your Servitors are perfect. The bare torso Catachan piece is excellent for the conversion. I too am making some plastic servitors for my "Dark Mechanicus", as I already use the metal servitors for my sergeants.

Is it a bad idea to use primer outside in the cold?

p.s. have you seen "Three Little Pigs" music video by Green Jelly (or Green Jello, depending on the time period)?

I just found this thread and am liking it a *lot*. Subbed and looking forward to more updates. I'm a huge fan of "Guard gone wrong" from way back in my Genestealer Cult days in W40K 2nd Ed. This thread is full of awesome!

May sound weird but i think your troops need to be soaked in gore, i think it would add alot to the pallette. Maybe their lower arms completely soaked and some flecks of blood on the torsos and face. I know you can't waste a model to test this but maybe paint a spare model of somekind in the same colour scheme.

How'd I miss this thread? Very cool stuff here, I cannot wait to see more.

I also 2'nd the idea for having them soaked in gore, if you can pull it off realistically, as bad;y done, goopy, bright red gore is quite horrid.

@Chank: The scout legs are cool. Have that extra bit of hardcore to them compared to the available guard legs. Kinda wish they didn't have the codpiece though.. The bare torso is indeed from the catachan box. Its got a strap across it which is pretty easy to take off with a knife and just put the missing detail back with GS. Less of a problem if you're making a servitor as you can bulk it up with added muscle or biotechnology or whatever you fancy. I gave mine a mechanical bellybutton for comedy goodness. Priming in the cold can more often result in patchy coverage and infuriation.

@Sphynx: There is a guide to my stripping system a little way down page 2 Its very simple and cost you less than a fiver.

@Perkustin and tim?: Can't say I'm wild about goring up the troopers. Would give them a bit too much of a khornate look rather than a fresh chaosy feeling. Probably add some gore to the zombies to help them stand out.

Well its update time again. Got the vet squad finished. Quite happy with how they have turned out. Picture turned out a little small once I uploaded it but can zoom in my gallery.



Making progress on the icon bearer. Wasn't going to paint him until I had the whole command squad ready but he was staring at me and I couldn't resist. Pleased with how the lens on the mask have come out as I think it makes the head pop..



I'm also half way through painting the PCS. When I get the chance I'll sort out some pics as the welding masks look much better with a bit of paint on them rather than straight greens.

@chank: I don't have a solid list really. Basic plan is straken CCS, blob platoon, couple vet squads, PBS in chimera, leman russes and some artillery. Currently sat on my to prime pile are 2 leman russes and a valk.

Wow, the Sarge really looks like he's just come out of the Carnival of Chaos!!!
The colour scheme is pretty original for renegades, it fits them well!!!

The eye lens is nicely done as well... I'm pretty sure that one of my friends, whom I over have painting arguments with, would say it doesn't stand out enough; as for me, I like subtlety in minis, so that's a total win for me!!!

Those meltaguns look outstanding painted.

@yggdrasil: glad someone picked up on the carnival of chaos look - was one of the things I based it on.

Also based on the kind of headgear worn by inquisitional members at witch trials/burnings in the middle ages and earlier. The other main source material being this artwork by clint langley

Time for a WIP update I think. Progress has been a bit slow due to the festive season. PCS remains half painted, still have to finish the skin, cloth and metals.



Have found the time to put together a mutant bodyguard for my commander. Decided to give it a different kind of backpack to the rest of the army as its quite a bit bigger than a standard trooper. Also decided to give it a nurgle feel as its a big disgusting mutant, so went for a vat of foul goo that somehow filters air through it or some such. Still need to whistle off some mould lines and add on a holstered pistol but its getting there.






- sorry they're a bit blue, white balance on my camera decided to go mental.

Have also primed and started painting up the zombies I posted previously. Once I get a bit more done on them I'll post some pics.

Great use of Orc boyz body for the commander... And the sculpting is awesome, especially the stitches on the hood...
