Being that it was my first GT ever, I didn't know what this comp thing was all about, nothing I could do about that.
I think most of the Mech Guard lists received about the same.
I think the Nid lists that ran heavy with the monstrous creatures got even lower.
But I heard that they were gonna restructure the whole comp thing or not even use it in future tourneys.

Hey guys, great tournament everyone. There were some really great looking armies there. Mine was the Howling Griffons.
To be honest, my issue with comp aside, I had a great tournament. I played 4 great opponents (I played one guy twice in a row on Sunday, when Mike was swamped with no one to help him, but he was my favorite opponent so it worked out).
I was very impressed with the level of play and generally how much fun everyone was having. The power level of some of the armies surprised me and usually when people are playing that level of game, at least in my experience it kills the atmosphere but not so at SVDM.
Next time I think Mike needs to get more help so he is not judging painting during game 5 on Sunday, and there are more judges walking around to help to cover table assignment errors. But for the most part this was definitely one of the most fun Tournaments I have ever attended outside the local club ones I have been too.
Now I just need to do better. 52 points including Comp and Paint just won't do. Also I would have liked not slipping on some ice and hurting my back Saturday morning on the way over the mall.

Actually, no.
There were only a couple armies that got more than 10 points.
The 6 ironclad dreadnought list in drop pods apparently got 12 points.
The non special character Chaos list that Damian was running got...15?
There was a generic space wolf list (no rune priest, no lone wolves...maybe one long fang squad) that got 14.

I think people just wanted to get those invites to Las Vegas, hahaha! Hence the competitive army lists!
I could also see alot of tweeking being done to some lists to prepare for the next big GT. I consider this the "warm up" GT of the year!
I'm definitely gonna run something a bit different for next time.

Well on the bright side of it all I'm quite content with the competitiveness of my list. If anything it might need a bit toning down. It was sort of hard to tell as a couple of my games I couldn't do anything but roll 6's so it's not like you need strategy when your dice are so hot they've gone nuclear.

Ya gorfang but with the new deff rolla ruling you may want to change your list up anyway. For example, you could make your nob unit an actual unit of nobs, and drop the shoota squad. Should free some points.

I believe all Comp scoring was done by Mike and fellow judges prior to the tourney (read that as up all night Friday night scoring Comp). So no, it wasn't the players beating up on each other.

I ended up with a 13 Comp, which isn't too bad considering some of the scores I saw.
I had a pretty basic Space Wolf force.
I think the problem with the comp. was that when viewing the armies and the different scores, it was hard to get a handle on what was considered "Good Comp".
Comp is a difficult thing in tournaments these days, and tends to be very subjective when being scored.
I think the only way to really do it fairly in a GT is to do it by check list.
That way players have a choice to either go for the extra points, or take that handicap and build their strong list.

actually, according to another thread here on the matter, it was scored at least partly by one of the players. the guy who scored so well in comp despite having a 6 dread list was a comp judge.

As noted, the TO used some members of the local club (which helps him run events) to help him judge lists prior to the tournament. I THINK he made them submit their lists first, prior to seeing anyone else's.

Some folks feel that Eldar are really behind the curve at this point. I don't think that's accurate, but some noted tournament players are of that opinion. I believe I recall jwolf from BOLS expressing the opinion that on a 20pt scale Eldar should start at 15 and go up from there.

Mech Eldar and Seer Council Eldar are considered top tier armies.
Every other Eldar build is considered poor, but in reality if they are built well, they can be very powerful, but there are many threads about that elsewhere right now.

Ah, so you had to be a local/friends with the locals to score well. That's nice.
Comp is bs, especially a comped tournament with no actual rubric for judging. That's where this crap will happen, where it's the TO and his friends biased opinions that rule all. If you're from out of town and don't know what the hell the TO likes and what he doesn't, you might as well not play.
What's even more ridiculous is that they apparently just decided to score ALL 'nid armies low on comp because they got a new codex. lol wut? Genius, pure genius.

Sidstyler, did you play in the event? I won it, I scored well, and I am not local nor am I involved with their clubs. I think the effort their team put into this event should not be downplayed, and I take offense to comments that only locals scored well.
Also, I agree that nids got hosed. They had reasons why they hosed nids, and while I dont agree with the reasons for hosing nids, keep in mind not all nid armies scored low--only what they considered to be decent nid armies.
IMHO, with nids aside, only necrons had any legitimate gripes. Scores overall were about 2 points to high for every single army I saw there, with nids being way off and crons being fine if everything else getting a -2.
If anything, I think that with the 7 players (5 nid and 2 crons) being the only people adversely affected by comp, that means that out of 53 they had 87% with comp scores that were just fine.
When I observe an 87% success rate for something as tricky to pin down as comp, I give them a passing score. Room for improvement? Of course. Worth burning down the internets? Nope!

Pfft, play in a comped tournament? Especially one like this with obvious shenanigans? Waste of time and money.
No, I didn't play, but I read that thread and all the drama surrounding it. Maybe a local didn't win the thing, but the fact that locals were made comp judges, still allowed to play, and then apparently scored higher than most (because they alone knew what would score well on comp)...well I think that speaks for itself. They obviously had an advantage.
Room for improvement? Of course.
Damn straight, a lot of improvement. Like dropping comp for one. And not screwing over players who just happened to get a new codex (without actually telling them they'd be getting screwed) for another.
Seriously, to pay that much money to enter into a tournament with crap like that going on? I'd better be getting my money back and an apology. If not, then screw burning down the internets, I'd burn down the store, lmao.
What surprises me even more is that it was apparently at mikhaila's store. I thought the place looked pretty good in the pics I've seen and would have otherwise loved to play there, but...not in a comped tournament.
