So many posts, and no one has mentioned the bots yet?

Dakka gets hit by a lot of web spiders, each of which counts as a "guest." There's also the attempted spam bots, who would like to register but often bounce off.

I think a lot of people don't feel the need to join when there is such wealth of great threads (especially in the P&M section) that can be read without registering.

Personally i like have a forum full of intelligent, well spoken and down-right nice people.

And remember kids, at Dakka Dakka it's ok to be an idiot or be a troll - but don't for one second ever think about pointing out that someone is a troll or idiot, because that's bad and breaks Rule #1. And Rule #1 must be obeyed, even when the person who is the idiot troll is so obviously an idiotic troll that everyone (even the staff) are sick of them.

As was mentioned in another thread regarding the moderation; I don't think the mod team have ever claimed to be completely even-handed and unbiased - they are human and have their own objectivity, bias and personal preference.

I guess you could say I lurked here for a while before I joined. I read a lot of awesome articles and viewed pics that people linked me to. I had actually gotten pretty disgusted with 40k message boards, to be honest. 40kO, TO and Warseer had all revealed to me their wackness in myriad ways.

I then met some cool people in real life that mentioned Dakka Dakka as a great forum and I haven't looked back.

Great content with the occasional flame war... What's not to like?

To get back to the topic, one reason few people might not register is because they feel they have more to learn from others than to share. In other words, they realize they are nooby.

I miss H.B.M.C's regular posts, when I first joined up that guy seemed to pop up in every discussion. Even back them he had thousands of posts and seem like a elder statesman of war-gaming. Speaking of first joining up, the first day of looking at the site 2 or 3 years ago was the very same day I joined.

I miss his regular posts too.

Yeah, its a hard thing, people with big personalities are more interesting then folks who are quite and civil all the time. Of course they also butt heads more and so on... still I think people like yourself, Gwar, LunaHound, etc. really add a lot of character and presence to forums like this.

I lurked on Dakka for about a year before registering, part of the reason is just what The Bringer pointed out, I felt nooby. Well, still do.

Do people often login? I do, when browsing on a computer. But I also visit Dakka often on my phone when at work or in town, and I don't want to take the time to log in then 'cause the wireless connection on my phone is quite slow.
