Thanks everyone - since I'm still deciding on rods for the flying stands, I've been working on infantry for now. Here's the first little squad of fire warriors... only 25 more to go!!

I dunno. You see people with massively detailed scenic bases, and yet the clear bases seem to look just as effective. Odd.

Great colour scheme, yellow is my favorite colour.

Great colour scheme! Though it's nog a conventional paint scheme for tau (stealthy camouflaged most of the time), I think it looks cool on the models. It gives them a clean look.
I allso like the conversion wtih the stealth suit head on the normal battlesuit.

And then the bases: I really don't understand why I haven't seen the transparant bases before.
Much better then for example the body of a dead marine mysteriously allways being near a general all the time!

Thanks everyone - the rods finally arrived, so I've finished off the first Crisis suit and put that and the gun drones onto my home-made flying bases. 3mm clear acrylic rod, and I've drilled holes in my clear 25mm and 40mm bases to fit. I had to make the holes on the models wider with a craft knife, but in future I'll drill the correct sized holes into them before priming.

Nifty thats a great action Tau pose although really shouldn't he be jumping backwards?

If you're still looking at inks, Ian, Windsor & Newton do quite a good yellow ink - I've seen it used for gold effects, and it really adds to the richness.

So, got the other two members of the first Crisis team painted, but had a bit of a spraying disaster.

For some reason, this batch have come out all rough and textured - I'm not sure why. The spray primer and paint are the same ones I've been using for this whole army. I don't know if maybe I didn't leave enough time between the two different colours, or maybe it was the heat that day - it was the hottest of the year over here. Strange.

Anyway, since stripping them would bugger up all the GS conversion work, I resolved to just paint them up anyway and do another Crisis team later on. These guys can be a b-team for bigger games. Here's the three together - I'll do some proper photos when they have weapons. They look ok from a distance, but you can see in the closeup the horrible texturing.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here are the three suits, painted and with weapons. I guess they're not THAT bad, but I need to do some spraypaint testing before I spray anything else!

Just caught this thread for the first time. The stealth heads on the XVs look absolutely awesome. They really take what amounted to a rather sad looking mech and make it look like something special. If I ever build any more crisis suits I'm going to have to steal this idea.

Upon successful testing, I can now confirm that MY SPRAYPAINT WENT GRAINY.

Nothing to do with temperature or drying time or whatever, it just looks like it's right at the end of that can of Montana Mango and it's all gone grainy. Still good value, though. I've bought a couple more cans to get me through the rest of the models.

On the first post I thought the yellow was not going to work at all, but combined with the grey it actually works really wel! I especially like the drones. Also, whats up with the transparant bases? Something artistic or just lazyness?

Ah, but maybe they're fighting on the GIANT YELLOW WORLD OF GIANT YELLOW COVER? Huh? Um, actually, Tigers are kinda that colour, and I have some tiger stripes planned for the Stealth elements to come...

Arakasi wrote:Really neat - and cuts down on time spent basing I imagine?

Kinda - it's very simple to base them, but as before, you have to be very careful

Thanks, a few people have posted other inks, but I think I've settled on my wash mixture now.

Thanks - yes, they do look a lot more 'complete' and less like the robot from Short Circuit now. However, now I have to figure out how to make the XV9 suits look like they're part of the same army!

Maj. Kolbak wrote:Awesome work, will there be any kroot added to vary the bright color of the Tau?

NOOO! Actually, this is planned as an all-Tau army. I might make some converted 'fightin' Tau' though, and I plan to do jetpack counts-as Vespids.

Timonth wrote:On the first post I thought the yellow was not going to work at all, but combined with the grey it actually works really wel! I especially like the drones. Also, whats up with the transparant bases? Something artistic or just lazyness?

A bit of both. As I said above, it's probably actually easier to paint a simple base rather than use the transparent ones, but I saw some transparent ones being used in a demo game at Salute this year and liked the idea. I'd already intended there to be a lot of drones and flying suits in the army, so the clear bases became a useful way of tieing in the flying bases with the regular ones. Oh, and this way they'll match any terrain I put them on!

Finished the first pathfinder squad and started work on the other six Crisis suits - I'll post some photos tonight!

I like the use of the Stealth Heads on the Crisis Suits, and I think the Yellow/Grey paintscheme looks really good, especially on the fire warriors and drones.

Will be keeping an eye on your progress.

So, update as promised. The drone horde grows

The first Pathfinder squad is complete - some are a bit grainy from the bad spray, but you can't really tell from here...

And I have six more Crisis suits converted and ready for painting (legs are painted separately). The suits all have magnets on the arms, but the squad leaders/commanders have additional points on the side of the arm and the jetpack for additional equipment.
