I like what I see, which is a bad thing, as I previously decided to skip this until the new starter set is coming out, but those templates and other gubbins are quite interesting to me: the universal gaming junk collector.

I'm loving those brass (though probably not actually brass) blast templates.

Going to have to get me a full set, like the good little junky that I am. Ah well! At least I'm back in full time work!

I do like the look of those bits, the calipers may also be to help with movement... Wheeling and such...

My comments are my own, and mine own alone. If you have any complaints, please report to Mr Spanky who will take them down for you.....

Or just measuring more accurately charge distances etc. After all, extend tape measure, set calipers to it, and then place between the two units. As long as the bit involving the tape measure is done accurately, should be a pretty accurate idea of whether it's in or not.

100% correct. I think they might be a splash release as well.. not sure.

Possibly. iirc there is currently a card set to download from the GW website.

That's actually a good idea. Kinda makes me interested to see what's in store for 6th Ed 40k (alongside the hopeful removal of the BS TLOS shooting, a revamping of the vehicle rules, and removal of KP's).

They did a web thingy for the 'nid psychic powers, which has proven useful. Be nice if they, maybe, kind of carried this on and did the same for the other armies...aw..hell..I'd settle for accurate and corrected army summaries.

Don't get ahead of yourself Red - they've got to get the books themselves accurate and corrected before they work on the summaries.

Some of it looks useful to me, I'm just hoping I don't have to buy some new/special warhammer dice, or if I would have to atleast they'll probably be in the new set. Speaking of the new set, anyone got any pictures of that?

Looking at the picture- isn't that a "compass", not a pair of "calipers"?

Maybe the word is used differently in the UK (or other parts of the US)? I use calipers every day, and they look like this:

And the compasses I'm used to look like this:

Maybe I'm just looking at the picture wrong... can someone explain? It looks like it has measurements on the top part, so you could see how far open it was. I can't quite picture how one of these would be very useful... perhaps if wheeling is only done by maximum distance moved, or something. Or if wheeling is free, then it would just aid with keeping one corner fixed, while rotating the rest of the unit.

Hmmmm......

That is a Vernier caliper but which is a special type of caliper. The word caliper is fairly generic.

In Spain we use "calibre" and "compás" for the same tools you have posted. I have no idea what the new warhammer thingies are. But yes, they resemble more a compass and a ruler than Mitutoyo calibers xD

Spell cards and the like are all very well, but is it such a monumental stretch to type out your chosen lore and print it for gaming purposes?

I plan to buy the cards, extremely handy for referencing.

The compass, rulers, templates, markers, and dice... Probably not. The templates and markers look just dont appeal to me at all. And after spending 40 bucks for precision 19mm dice i dont need any more.

Ah, thanks for the pointer filbert- that clears it up.

Chibi- you're right, it does look like those. Still trying to figure out what their function would be... and if they would be optional or mandatory (optional seems likely, since it's a rather strange tool for wargaming).

Still very cool, and I'll probably get all of this stuff, as I'm a sucker for special gizmos, dice, and the like...

Hi RiTides

Not sure either but I scratch built a dwarf with a big pair of dividers to help him with architectural and engineering projects.

Also very handy for poking gobbos very hard

I like the wheeling idea but could be used for standard movement by setting the distance, which would be neater than lining up a tape measure on a crowded table.

Very true! And maybe that is what it's intended for.

Although your comment about the gobbos is right on, too. Poking an opponent who is reaching over to touch my models without permission also comes to mind... . We need something to replace those old red whoopie sticks, after all!

Those calipers or dividers are used for measurement: Put one end in the center of an area of effect (command, spell effect, maximum movement range) and adjust the radius -> see who is affected by a spell / who must do which leadership test / how far your unit can go.

It is a standard instrument for every navigator and engineer since the old Greeks I guess.

I don't plat fantasy but I'm diggin' both those new templates, which combine both round blasts, and the Engineers stuff.

I would guess that the compass/dividers/whatever thingies could be useful for many measuring jobs including creating area effects and also to measure in tight confines to determine charge distance etc. I'm also curious about the measuring stick, is that for wheeling units?
