Don't waste time or money on GW's spray paints. Ever. Go to Walmart, or a home improvement store. Anything by Krylon or Rustoleum will be great and they make white primer. I've always used the light gray stuff myself but white will bring out brighter colors

Ive got some grey ColorPlace and had flat black from wallyworld, but I shall investigate a white. Also I am picking the "auto enhanced" option from dakka, maybe I shouldn't.

Krylon makes a perfectly good flat white primer for a couple of bucks, available at most discount or hardware stores. Don't waste your money on the overpriced "gaming" primers. The exception to this is Army Painter's colored primers, which are fantastic. Both my Mantis Warriors (both color variations) and my orks are done this way. Instant primer and base coat in only 1 coat of paint. You might experiment with the red or yellow (always go with the lightest color)... it would save you a step anyway.

I stopped using the auto adjust a while ago.. it cranks up the contrast and saturation of the photo, which I'm sure helps with some cameras, but if your's is half-way decent it only makes the photo more severe looking... getting you useless comments on the paint job that don't apply IRL.

I use sprays made for plastic model specifically and never have trouble. Hobby Lobby caries Testors sprays all of which will work for primer on plastic and the true primer sticks to pewter. Flow-quil white primer also goes on smooth.

Look for a proper hobby store, A.K.A. not Hobby Lobby, some where that sells plastic models, or model trains. Usually they carry Tamiya and Testors paints. Both stick to plastic, are reliable, and high quality products if you follow standard procedure.

Plus the one time I have been there they were Mega-Douchebags. Not sure of any other ones in the area.

Well, you could try and combine the trip to the shop with other errands in the area, so you're not spending the whole sum on gas just for the primer.

I use Krylon spray on just about EVERY model I do.. Primer in white, black, and khaki, as well as russet. Only MINOR issue is that the paint chemically bonds to plastic, so stripping is a mother..

I also use Krylon Matte seal and satin gloss..

And just about every can at my local Wally Mart runs me $2.75 a can.

If the US Mail would let me, I would send ya some!

Got some gaming in today, we played 3 games in my basement. I played in 2 of them and won both.
Some WIPs for all you blog goers out there. 1st is my metal furioso dred. Did a bit of repositioning and gave him some basing and a rhino door in one hand. Tried to make it look like he just pried it off (not sure why but whatever).

2nd is Porkuslime's Soul Drinker. He wanted it to look showroom fresh, so its almost glowing red at this point. I will be adding some highlights and doing detail soon.

Last is another Sprueanid, this time a Spruelord (Broodlord). Not much to say, but I think they are pretty funny, so feel free to have a giggle with me. I've decided on a color scheme for them, sprue grey.

I like the furioso ripping apart his own troop transports... perhaps you should call him "Mr. Furioso" a-la the movie "Mystery Men".

Glad she (and you) got a kick out of it, thats what its supposed to be for. I'm a bit scared to start a hoard army that is all scrach built, but I'll give it a shot. Have to pick up the new dex as well, but that, glue and bases will be all they cost (maybe 25 cents each if i can get some bases cheap from ebay).

at first when i saw SM with wings i thought of Dark Angels well Blood Angels are just as good XD lookin good so far though i like your combi metla conversion very nice

I'll put in an Order for 20 Hormasprues.

I actually will be doing DA as well, I have 6500ish points already painted (they still need highlights though) and as much WIP. Stay tuned and they will show up as well.
Actually after I finish up the drop pod and Blood drinker I have a green Land raider to finish up.

I'd like to see more of that Belial conversion. I am working on one myself using that exact same model and even the same DA head!

I'll take some more pics of him next time I break out the camera (tonite probally) and give an explination of what I did with him.

Ahh busy i see in middle of nowhere land. Nice work on all your stuff so far and really like how the sprueanids are comin along. Hopefully get to talk to you some more at a future tourney in Nerk when you are able to make it again.

Ok, Solo asked for some more pics of Belial. He started as the pointing GK. I dremmeled out his head and added the hooded non-effed up head, hacked of the rainbow thing on his pads, hacked off the stupid D things on his joints. Added (obviously) wings from the pegasus (I think? They came from eBay, so not sure). Cut the pike up and gave him a sword from the Ravnwing sprue and used a purity seal to connect to he ribbons on the handle. Added the little winged hood school thing on the bottom. Added the DA icon on the pad, painted red. Lastly I added the feathers from the DA assault cannon to the storm bolter. And thats it, as if its not enough. He was one of the first major conversions I did, so he may get a V2.0 at some point.




Got Porkuslimes blood drinker more or less done. A bit of detail and touch up and he gets sent back.



I had a slashed up legs from the Sternguard crushing the ork, so I decided to make a leg to replace it. I'll add some wire to it later. Not a bunch for me to say. Its the 1st I've tried.


And some new DA love, a WIP Land raider. FW door, FW purity seals on front hatch, and FW eagle on the side. Magnitized side sponsons.....its a land raider, so...... yeah

BH - Glad you found it! I stole the sternguard-ork-stomper from your sabertooth marine on the rock.

V9 - We will be comming back for sure, lemme know when some non-super-competative games are in the neighborhood, or maybe just a day trip at some point.

I love these conversions on the marines & dread (also Sprucenids are awesome).

The paintwork is very neat (as in precise) have you thought about using multiple layers to shade/highlight or using washes?

Great work WM... like the robotic leg, sternguard looks cool... kind of trotting across the battlefield.

That Soul Drinker actually has a bunch of layers of paint, but no wash (person I painted it for specifically requested NOT to) but all of my red rines are. I think my camera/photography just sucks. Next time i send stuff to Git, I'll throw one in just so someone can take a real pic.
My DA do not get washed, just hard edged. Tried one and didn't like it on them, just felt meh. Well, thats BS, the Deathwing gets a watered down brown wash (can't think of the name, its the foundation one).
Put together a very busy conversion tonite, but don't want to show it yet, I'm not sure if I am sold on it. Teaser: Brother Sepharan.

Have you tried the extreme highlight thing on the armor edges? Seems to me that what everybody keeps commenting on is a lack of contrast, and I know from your previous posts that you do work on that... but it's just not translating through. Might be the photo... will know more when I have one in hand.
